Here in Detroit, we no longer have a daily paper. Well, there's the Free Press and the News, but the only thing they have in common with a newspaper is that they're made out of paper. They don't actually contain any news.

No. I figure it's not worth the trouble. I've picked up some very useful strategies here on tuscl, like verifying the count after every dance, that tend to limit my risk to the cost of a single dance. It's not worth my time to go to management over $20. If I ever did run into a situation where I felt ripped off for $100 or more, and thought that I was dealing with a rogue employee rather than a rogue club, I would complain, but it hasn't happened yet.

There are some dancers in Toledo whose stripper names I don't know so I just call them "Sweaty" and "Stinky." And "Stringy" (for her hair). And "Toothless." Yes, I do tend to go to the low-end joints.

This is quite common in Detroit. You don't get this in other parts of the country? I always decline because after the BJ comes the hard sell for a big tip. If I'm looking for BJ I negotiate price ahead of time.

Can't stand foie gras. I only eat oysters rockefeller at Antoine's. I normally have oysters in a po-boy at Acme or raw with jello shots after a hard night drinking. I don't drink Latour, it's overpriced. White Bordeaux is a better deal than red. I don't usually eat dessert although I enjoy the occasional Sauternes or Port. Last time I bought caviar was in Volgograd, direct from the farmer (they don't catch it wild there any more, at least not legally). It was delicious.

I don't go to strip clubs in Europe. The ones I've been to have been boring and expensive. I do like the brothels, especially that if you shop around you can often find that Czech/Catalan/Corsican/Latvian/whatever girl you've been dreaming about. Also love the streetwalkers in Paris.

Costumes are less common now than they were 20 years ago. I was at a club in Toledo on "white trash" night once. One of the waitresses had a very realistic looking but fake baby in a front baby carrier. It was creepy.

I'm not convinced it's getting worse. The most common mistake I see is showing up late, or not showing up at all.

I have not had one start mid-song recently. When it does happen, I tell her "the song hasn't started yet." Looking back on it, the best thing is probably to cancel right then. Mid-song starters are usually low-mileage ROBs.

I'll second Turks & Caicos. Anguilla is nice, Yucatan outside of Cancun, Barbados, St. Martin, Caymans. Jamaica is too much hassle but if you're sticking to the resort it could be ok. Farther afield I can vouch for Maldives and Seychelles or almost any of the Thai islands. Bali is a great place. Never been to Fiji or Tahiti but I hear they can be great for a romantic getaway. If I really wanted to get away, I'd head for the Cook Islands, almost any one of them. But probably too ambitious for just one week, they're pretty remote. The Philippines are full of great islands too. Siquijor and Bantayan are two I've been to with great beaches and excellent food. Too bad you don't speak Cebuano. You could always mix with the Eurotrash at Majorca and Minorca. I tend to go for places with good food and lots to do, and avoid resorts, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

This may be a stupid question. When you lie about your age, do you claim to be younger or older than you really are?

Clubber, you are absolutely right. I never drink that combination myself but I've heard it's popular. Besides which in most places if you order Coke, I think you actually get some generic cola. Hugh, I don't usually drink Canadian straight, but I should. I do often order it in an old-fashioned or manhattan.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a Long Island is a girly drink. The problem with strip club drinks around here (Detroit) is the bartenders usually don't know how to mix a drink, and the bars don't stock good beer. I often just ask for a Budweiser. It's the "King of Beers" and everyone stocks it, and the dogwater taste doesn't bother me too much when there are naked girls around. Other times I'll get Maker's Mark neat. It's the best bourbon that you can count on most clubs having in stock. Most clubs will have several decent scotches, which you can drink neat or on the rocks. If you want to branch out, I'd recommend a highball of some kind. Since they have only two ingredients and are mixed in the glass, they are nearly impossible for a bad bartender to screw up. Jack & Coke, rum & Coke, bourbon & Coke, bourbon & soda, scotch & soda, Seven & 7, etc. Whiskey sour is usually safe, although I don't care for them.
