Newspaper

As I sit here, reading the funnies, I ponder to myself, do other adults still read the funnies? While pondering that, I pondered some more. Do most people still subscribe to an actual paper, newspaper? Do most people these days use only Internet news? Mmmm. I pondered further. I use to be a paperboy. Maybe, because I was once a paperboy, I subconsciously subscribe to a paper newspaper. Not quite sure. Anybody else ever been a paperboy? Please ponder.

I started delivering newspapers on my bicycle around the age of 10. I saved the money and bought my first car at the age of 15 1/2 for $150. I stated just delivering a weekly local rag. My father, an uncle and my grandfather all worked at the print shop that published it.

Now I don't subscribe to any newspaper but I get several local papers thrown in my drive way every week. I may glance at the headline but basically they go straight to the trash can. I get all of my news off the internet. I don't even watch TV news.

I do see senior citizens still reading news papers while eating their McDonalds breakfasts.

Those were great comics. I was pissed when my local paper dropped the Boondocks. Now, it's a hit cartoon.

I was a paperboy, great job to do when I was a young teenager, especially at Christmas time when tips were plentiful.

I don't subscribe to a newspaper but usually purchase the printed version of the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail also have a website that some of you guys look at from time to time.

God damn I miss Calvin and Hobbes. I own the complete box set in hard cover. Might be time to revisit them. ..

I was briefly a paperboy, because a buddy of mine had all the paper routes in my area, but it was too much, so he gave me one, but that only lasted for a few months. I hated getting up in the morning.

I don't subscribe to a paper, but I do read the one at work and read the comics, but none really stand out to me. When Calvin and Hobbes and Far Side went, I kinda went with it.

I bought my paper route when I was 12. I had 52 customers and I delivered the local paper, 3 Boston papers and 2 providence papers. Most people paid .32 per week, per paper and would tip .03.
Today I have two papers delivered daily and subscribe to one on-line. I read very few comics (most are not funny).

SamP and Boogieknights...

I totally agree. I haven't read the funny papers since Calvin and Hobbes left.

I also delivered newspaper by bicycle as a teenager. I subscribe to two daily papers and read USA Today when i travel. I also read a lot of news on the internet, but prefer holding a newspaper. I will miss them if they eventually fade away.

I don't subscribe to a paper but I read a local one a relative gets along with the comics. When I was a teenager I used to read comic books like Iron Man, Thor, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, Spiderman, and some others. About the only comic they didn't make into a movie was The Flash. That is out of the ones I used to read. I did read one oddball one either produced or written I believe by Stan Lee that never seemed to get that popular. it was about a swamp creature down in Florida that could burn you if you feared it. What's not to fear from a large hulking swamp creature?

Places I would like to see the movies go that I haven't so far.
X-Men need to develop the Phoenix character. In the comics she went literally supernova and destroyed whole star systems before she got better control of that kind of power.

The Fantastic Four, The Silver Surfer didn't really portray very much about Galactus and the Fantastic Four struggle to even get noticed by Galactus. They were like gnats. Galactus sucked the energy out of entire planets to live off of.

The Flash. No movie yet, lightning fast whenever he wanted and he did this a lot of the time. Who wouldn't dream of getting somewhere lightning quick?

Oh just remembered another comic I liked. I believe it was called Dr Strange. He had great magical or mystical powers. He was able to conjure up and fight all kinds of weird creatures. He even traveled into the astral plane.

I'll stop there. Probably rambling too much.

Here in Detroit, we no longer have a daily paper. Well, there's the Free Press and the News, but the only thing they have in common with a newspaper is that they're made out of paper. They don't actually contain any news.

I haven't read a paper newspaper in years. I get all kinds of news on my MacBook and iPad. I pay for a digit subscription to the New York Times because it's the best newspaper in the world. I like funnies if they're really funny.

I delivered regional paper right to the front porch of my subscribers when I was 12 or 13. (early 1960's) Rolled-up with a rubber band around it. Wax paper added to the roll when it was raining. Carried them all in canvas bags strapped to my bicycle. They were delivered to my house in a bundle very early in the morning and I had to get up at 5:30 to roll them and then head out on delivery.

Read paper on iPad these days. Don't read cartoons. But I think the internet porno versions of Flintstones are interesting.
