I generally find any mention of a boyfriend/S.O. to be a huge turn-off. The smarter ladies never even bring it up.
One of my faves recently transitioned into civvie life. It was then that I discovered that she was married and had a family. if she's not going to do OTC, then she's not that fun. At any given time I have a rotation of 3-4 ladies that I can spend $200-300 on for 3-4 hours of sex with a single phone call.
All of them are either on their way in or out of the rotation. I go to the club to seek out replacement ladies for the ones on their way out. Once we OTC, that's the only way I see them until they exit the rotation. I can usually tell if OTC is even a possibility within the first song or two, and within another song or two the subject is broached. If she's willing and serious, 9 out of 10 times I'll have the deal sealed and her number with arrangements for OTC either later that day/evening or the next morning. If it's not done by then, I'll ask her when she's working next before we part ways at the club and hit it again next at that time. If the deal isn't done by then or she didn't show up for her shift at the club when she said she would, no loss, I just keep looking for that next replacement that I was looking for before I met her.

Subraman, I guess our mode of operation is different. If I like her enough to spend a couple hundred on her, then I'm already pushing for ITC or OTC. If she's willing and plays, it usually doesn't take more than one or two visits to get OTC set up.
I rarely if ever just go to the club to buy dances and nothing else.

I never ask for their number. It's a waste of time. Most of them will volunteer it if they want to make you a regular.
Usually, the only time I even keep the number is if OTC was just arranged, then, if it was good and she made it past the sniff test, then I'll keep to arrange future OTC sessions, otherwise, I delete it and move on. There are plenty of other fish in the sea.
Remember, it's a numbers game (no pun intended). You're not going to be attracted to every stripper you see, so in order to get exposure to the ones you want, you need to spend time browsing.

2. Tijuana, Hong Kong and adelitas sound like the bomb, though, I kind of expect that it won't be much different from a nevada brothel (which I've been to) except more selection and generally hotter girls.
3. I want to check out some Canadian strip clubs, just for the experience.
For those of you who want to try out the metro PHX area, bourbon street circus and Hiliters should be at the top of your list, followed by the Tempe Christies, then the Phx christies. From there it's kind of down hill as far as the girls look and the clubs get more like dives, though with that being said, bandaids, blue moon, and candy store rank higher than other phoenix places. The east and west side of town have strip clubs too, but they're different cities and start to turn into a bit of a drive unless you're in those areas.
In SF, my gotos are Crazy Horse, MBOT, and gold club, in that order, though, in SF the strip clubs tend to be a bit over-rated.

In my experience, the only ladies who would turn down more than a few thousand dollars tend to be married or in a serious long term relationship and so wouldn't do it on principle.
With that being said, you can usually attain most who are willing to entertain the idea for what amounts to their average daily take. In most parts of the U.S., that equates to $500 or less. For example, I recently had a new lady dancing for me for her entire shift. I was already there when she started, and I left after she did. The only time she wasn't dancing for me was when she was on stage. She got what amounted to a great day for her club, which was $400. The first time we do OTC, I will expect her to quote me in the $400-500 range, and I'll negotiate it down to $300-400. After the the first time, I'll expect to pay $200-300 per event, and I'll have her for at least a couple of hours. If her first time performance isn't up to par, if she even gets a second time chance, I'll hardline it at $200 max.

Here in the US, at the federal level, prostitution is very much *legal*. It is very *illegal* at the state/county/city level except in Nevada, where it is legal in all counties that have a population level below a certain amount, and even then, it is regulated by the state.
It's amazing how many people don't know what's legal and not in terms of the federal government.

Lots of input going on here... In reality it's pretty simple. Do you want a relationship with him that is not based on money?
If the answer is no, then you know what to do. You said you don't want to hurt him, so find a way to cleanly disengage while minimizing the hurt. If he really is attached, you're gonna hurt him at least a little and there's no way around that. It's a cold hard reality.
If you want a relationship with him, then you also know what to do.

Who the fuck cares what you tell them. They don't. They're just trying to fill time so that they don't look like they're going straight to the "wanna dance?" routine.
Given how many of them don't even remember you unless you're a regular, believe me, they're not going to remember anything you say.
On the occasion where it might become relevant, as has been said before, it's a pretty forgiving environment given that they also feed you a stack of shit and half truths.
