I've waited in short lines while guys ahead of me are paying cover or showing ID, but not in a long line because the club was full. I can't imagine that I ever would but I suppose it's possible.

TJ is safer than most US cities, if you're not in the drug business. I dug up the stats one time, I'll see if I can find it again.

Maybe I'm living in the wrong place, or use the wrong bank. One time I tried to take out $8000 cash (staying under the $10K limit) for a trip and my bank acted like I was trying to rob them. Had to order the cash ahead of time and wait three days.

You should ask for half price since you can only grope with one hand. The old plaster casts were great for autographs, they held up well to pencil, pen, or marker. And if you didn't like what someone wrote you could just wash off the top layer of plaster. Casts now are made out of some kind of fiberglass or nylon or something that doesn't hold writing as well.

Events of close to zero probability happen all the time. It's one of those apparent contradictions that keeps life interesting. As Art points out, the chances of you winning the mega lottery are essentially zero, but the chances of someone winning it are exactly one.

If you really don't want the valet driving your car, give him an extra tip and ask to park it yourself. I know people do this but I don't know what the appropriate tip would be. As for safety, the neighborhoods around the 8 Mile clubs are a bit dicey but you won't be walking around them anyway. It's perfectly safe to walk the 15 feet from the valet stand to the club door. I wouldn't try walking from one club to the next even if it's walking distance.

This has been going on for over 100 years. You can see it in old westerns on TV. Back then they had saloon doors and a stage with a burlesque show. But the basic idea of girls putting on a show as a teaser to take them to the rooms upstairs is the same. I strongly suspect this has been a continuous activity. It has pretty much disappeared from the western US so consider yourself lucky to be able to experience this bit of history.

There are plenty of Asian strippers in Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, and Indonesia. There used to be an Indian girl at Landing Strip in Detroit about two years ago. Scared of what? Being ripped off might be the biggest risk. There are web sites where you can check the girls out ahead of time. Personally, I prefer not to hire a girl I've never met, which is (one reason) why I like the clubs.

$10 on a $100 private dance is 10%. If I had a good time (that doesn't include HJ) I would tip more. If it wasn't very good I might tip less or not at all. The dancer certainly shouldn't be pissed off, the tip is optional. So I don't think you were out of line. By the way it's refreshing to hear someone admit "I may be a cheap bastard with anger issues."

I got some kind of tropical fungal infection from a hooker (not a dancer) in Java once. If I understood the Javanese doctor correctly it was a common skin infection that sometimes attacks the genital areas, so I don't know if that counts as an STD. It was easily and cheaply cured with a cream he prescribed. Thanks for the link to the Honest-to-God guide. I do wonder how much of the STD "facts" we're told are sensationalized.
