I am a independent contractor in a small business. There are many benefits - being your own boss - being able to call your own shots etc. etc.. The downsides you describe here. I worked in corporate for 20 years - believe me I will take the downsides of being and independent contractor over the benefits of employee status any day. You know I kind of avoid cops as much as possible - they are kind of a different breed speaking in generalities.
