Juice, I just play for fun (with money but low stakes) and most amateur people are pretty easy to read so I usually make money ($20-$50). I would never play a high stakes game because that's what the pros would be saying about me! Plus I drink too much when I play.
I believe when you say playing winning poker is a huge investment in time...it's really a very complex game at the highest levels.

Darkblue, "good" regulars want their dancers to do well, and I'm not the only one who encourages my regular girls to buy dances from guys who are waiting for them. My time will always come, and I get A+ treatment from my girls because they like how they don't have to pretend they don't have other customers.
If you're getting a dance and she knows 2-3 guys who are richer than you are have been waiting, you're NOT going to get the same quality of time as you will when they know no one is in the wings. I probably get more free time and extra songs with my regulars than anyone else because of this.

Cashman echoes my experiences. When I first started clubbing I would get pissed that dancers wouldn't give me the time of day when their regulars were there, but over time I became a regular, and I definitely got priority over newbies even if they were tipping them with crooked numbers.
But usually I tell my regulars to go make money (by attending to others) if I'll be at the club for a while and I see lots of guys tip them on stage. That works out as they make money and when They come back to me they're much more relaxed and happy, which in turn makes me relaxed and happy!

20 years ago I went to my club in the afternoon of Wed before Thanksgiving and the place was packed wall to wall with customers. This year I did the same thing, and the club was maybe 10% full. There's no doubt times have changed...
I would agree that the reasons are that hot girls have more options and when you get to really know dancers you discover NONE of them really like the job. The good ones like the freedom and money, but they'd rather be taken care of at home than have to dance.
Cam girls make as much as dancers, and it's a LOT easier for the girls. I know an ex-dancer cam girl and all she does is sit in front of her cam while people send her tips. She only does "shows" in private but she's pretty enough to get away with it. When she was dancing in clubs, she had to really hustle for the same money.

Jack, I always get a few free drinks at gigs...the policy is different at different bars. If we're bringing in a big crowd I never pay for drinks, but it it's pretty empty they only comp 1-2 drinks. Not much for a 4 hour set! I never run a tab regardless because I never drink a lot until I'm done, and even then I'm usually tired and just want to go home...

That was me. I only pay my ATF for dances but often she'll sit and talk with me the whole time I'm there. It must drive other PL's crazy as I don't pay her for that...

My golf league is $20 a week, and I spend about $2-400 at the club, but if you add up the rounds I play with my kids it probably is about the same. Golf takes around 2 1/2 hours (9 holes) and the club usually 3-4 hours...but it's only once or twice a month. When the kids aren't home I spend a ton more on the club than on golf as I won't go golfing by myself.

#1 is not an issue with me. I have to actually encourage my ATF to work the room or she'll just hang with me and not make any money. She was gone a few years and recently returned so for her it's like starting over.
