This kind of thing is a lot more common than you would imagine among international students. They pay for tuition, fund shopping sprees, casino trips, etc and all the money comes via wire from wherever the parents are. In one day, lost at the tables the next.
The only way this girl would get "caught" is if she's already had probs here and is on someones radar OR if she is from a country the US has bad relations with.
The proposed idea is stupid but don't give the US govt too much credit. 35k for an internationl student to be moving around is routine.

I have never met a Japanese girl that was comfortable doing anything outside the delights of the urban world, let alone spending and working multiple days in boonieland. I am extremely skeptical of that article, and I would have to see Japanese girls working in a shithole backwater town like this to believe it. They were probably curious tourists who came, saw, conquered and were getting the fuck out.

There is a dive club that I like going to that has a pool table. SC is right, many of the guys playing are gangsta wannabes. However, there is one dancer in the club that has epic skills and she actually substantially supplements her income with pool. She has a nice operation going. She offers dudes free couch dances if they win, but they pay 20 bucks if she wins. She'll beat them, go double or nothing, win again and keep going until the dude is beat down or broke.
The regulars that go to the club learned long ago she's a pool shark, but there are a couple civvie dance clubs nearby, and 20 something hipsters wander in alot. They are the target.
I totally admire this girl. She's not my type or ida fallen in love by now lol.

I go to a club occasionally that gives 2/bills instead of singles. I do find it annoying but tolerable. If I have some left over at the end of the visit I just keep em til the next visit. Its nice not having an old battle axe to hide shit from.

If he is being charged with receipt and possession of child porno, he is not being charged for simply talking about it. The talking about it is what brought him attention, and LE makes a much higher priority of nailing potential pedophiles than nailing prostitution between adults.
Talk doesn't get you arrested, it gets you investigated. How are they gonna prove anyone here fucked a stripper, presuming the FBI or other LE has the interest in it?
In the end if this guy has kiddie porn in his possession then I applaud the FBI. If he doesn't, he'll probably skate the charges and just go back to being a douchebag.

I had this fat dancer sit down next to me and start bitching about what an asshole I am for not buying dances with her and that we should go fix that right now. I'd never met the bitch before and told her to fuck off. Now every time I'm at that club and she's there she tries to chat me up like we're pals. lol I don't get that but it'll never result in a dance.
Some guys really dig aggressive and overbearing girls though. Maybe it was just that sort of situation?
