With my late-night hours, I usually do my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart -- or rather, used to. Pretty soon, the two local Wal-Marts won't be open 24 hours any more. I might actually have to expose myself to the sun pretty soon to do any shopping.

^ Exactly. It's a book. It's fiction. It's a fantasy. Nothing more. It's the same thing that sucks lonely people into romance novels -- they want the safe, vicarious thrill, "safe" being the operative word and you probably couldn't be more safe sitting at home just reading a book.
My bet is that you put the vast majority of those same readers in that same situation and they'd freeze up, they'd run, or they'd just piss their pants. But unfortunately, there is that very small minority that might take inspiration from those works and try to act them out in real life, with or without a consenting partner, much like SJG has done.

1. First strip club: Club 81 here in Grand Farce, ND, circa 1982. A couple guys I gamed with dragged me there. Considering it was a dive bar that gave dive bars a bad name, it really didn't impress me, even though I went a second time all by myself on my 21st birthday. Had an even less enjoyable time.
2. Club that got me hooked? Wow, tough to say. During my time in the Air Force ('86-'90), I was making somewhat regular trips to Winnipeg and to the Twin Cities for the strip clubs and massage parlors. Almost 30 years later, I can still easily picture one nude dancer in a dive bar attached to a hotel (something Motor Inn); she had a tight little skier body, waist-length blonde hair, tan from head to toe, and a smile that almost knocked me off my feet. Sadly, I only saw her the one time.
In the Twin Cities, the Roaring '20s (now a parking lot) always caught my attention, I think largely because the dancers would try to get me to buy a bottle of champagne for $50 and go to the back with them. I was more of a pauper then than now and ATMs weren't around yet, so I always had to decline. I remember one street barker in front of Augie's Doggies pissed me off when he shouted, "You like girls?" and then grabbed my arm. I wrenched myself free and headed across the street, determined NOT to go in there. But I think the one that grabbed and kept my attention was Solid Gold (later Schieks and now Downtown Cabaret). A very upscale atmosphere (without a lot of the price back then) and lots of beautiful women who would not only talk to this geek and treat him like a human being but would get down to their thongs for him (for a meager $10/dance at that time). Sure, it was all air dances at that time, but they were still fun air dances for this loser.

^^^ Agreed. Don't let the dancers make you believe it's a sellers' market; it isn't. We're the ones with the cash, we're the ones shopping, so remember it's a buyers' market. (Well, at least try to get your dancer to believe that, okay?)

I'm a bit like IHearVoices -- I do pretty much everything alone. I prefer it because I don't have to coordinate or negotiate with anyone on what we're going to do. When I'm by myself, I can just go out and do it. Hell, one time that buddy in the aforementioned post and I planned on hitting a club, he changed his mind and wanted to go bowling instead. (I think his wife might've cock-blocked him, even though he kept the SCs a secret from her.) I went along with it because, even though I had some decent scratch in my pocket for the night, stupid mundane things I needed -- like gas and groceries -- came to mind.

One of my former bosses -- a tall, cerebral, busty, and quite attractive brunette -- seemed to make it a point to tell me that on her vacation to Spain, she went to a topless beach -- and then she just walked away. I waited until she was back in her office and the door was shut before I let out a wistful sigh. Yeah, it's very unacceptable behavior, but I have to agree some of the other posters -- it's a type of behavior that's probably going to become the norm. I'm glad everyone was able to walk away from the situation (relatively) unscathed. (Finding out your boyfriend's a narcissistic shithead should be more of a wake-up call than a major trauma.)
A couple of possibilities about the asshole come to mind. 1) He might've regarded you as the DS's "pimp daddy" or something along those lines. 2) Maybe he's been to the DS's club and gotten some feedback on her.

I think I can count the number of times I've gone with other people on one hand -- and still have change. The last time I went with a buddy in the Twin Cities, he wouldn't shut up and what he tended to spout off about just got under my skin, things like most of the dancers are lesbians or they were pre-ops. Yeah, I really didn't enjoy hanging out with him.

Mikey, strip clubs are a great place to exercise that peripheral vision -- keep the eyes locked on the face and let the peripheral take everything else in. Seems to give the dancer the impression of eye contact, which most of the dancers I've met seem to appreciate.
