Because of my skin coloring, people often mistake me for mexican, even a Houston Police Officer of hispanic descent. Although I understand about 400 words of spanish, he was talking too fast for me to get the gist of what he was saying. I just stared with a raised eyebrow. When he finished I said, in my Texan accent "Hey partner, I don't speak spanish", then I filled him in that I'm of Sicilian and Jewish descent-hence my skin color.
Briefly, no Mexico trips for me.

Old Town-if you like the touristy stuff. There is an excellent Mexican restaurant in a hotel next to Old Town.
Avoid hotels alongside the freeways or Central Blvd. (noise)
The airport is at the southeast corner of the city. Immediately west of that, other side of I-25 is the South Valley. Avoid the South Valley at all costs unless you can outfight Bruce Lee and Mike Tyson at the same time.
