If it is at as possible for a movie to get people to stop using drugs or to not do drugs in the first place, then Requiem For A Dream would be that movie. A strong candidate for the most depressing movie I've ever scene, which was/is the whole point.

A Days Inn up the road from the University of Maryland years ago with my father the night before a Maryland-BC football game. Scuzzy as hell. Hookers, pimps, drug dealers, and cops abounded. Unfortunately my father who made the reservation didn't understand the concept that online reviews are meant to be read or would have realized this was NOT the place to say a night.
For the record, Maryland's stadium was almost as scuzzy for a stadium as the motel was for a motel. They still had fucking pee troughs in the mens' room like old Fenway Park when I was growing up! There is no dignity with a pee trough. Great memories...

Flanigan's is another favorite of mine as well, though I usually go to the Pompano location which is not on the water, though it's not far. Wings, ribs, and pitchers. Hard to go wrong.

I've been to Boston's 3 or 4 times to watch Patriots games with fellow fans while on vacation down there. Always had a good time putting down large quantities of chicken wings.

^ if you're looking for overpriced on the water down there, just go to Houston's in Pompano. That fits the bill. Beautiful location on the intracoastal but neither the food nor the service come anywhere close to justifying the price IMO.
If I'm going to go to a bar type place, my preference is The Briny right across from the beach in Pompano. Loads of character, I've always found the people to be friendly, and one the best cheeseburgers you'll find. And within walking distance of where I stay when I'm in Pompano, which is a nice bonus.

Ski - my old man has been either a snowbird or full time Pompano resident for over 15 years now, so I try to visit every year. Pompano suits me just fine as a vacation spot for all the reasons you state. The beach, some good places to eat, poker, and good strip clubs is my idea of a week well spent. Just hopeful I'll be able to get back down there next winter.

Seaside Grill in Pompano Beach, FL is a nice spot as well. Right on the water, good food and drink, killer ocean views. Been there quite a few times, never been disappointed. Not as good as JB's, but not as pricey as JB's either.

Ski - the funny thing is, when I read your first two sentences I was going to suggest JB's on the Beach. Most years I head to South Florida for a week in early March to visit family, play poker, hit some strip clubs, and catch some spring training games. The last 3 times I've been down, I've made sure to have dinner at JB's for a combination of a great steak, strong Moscow Mule, and a very pleasant view.

Not really a sports injury, so much as an instance of medical malpractice. Bizarre to say the least. Hope he recovers with a minimum of complications, as a collapsed lung is no joke.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens if Herbert plays well in his absence. Hate to see a guy lose his job because of injury, but it wouldn't be the first time. Or the last I'm sure.

This isn't a clock blocking story but a couple of the stories above reminded of it.
I was at Fantasies in Providence (years ago). I was upstairs in the nude room. I had sat at the stage for awhile, but I was then sitting in one of the soft chairs near the stage. Some older dude who didn't work there, I had not talked with, and had never met for whatever reason took it upon himself to approach one of the dancers and send her to talk to me.
Interestingly enough I ended up going to the 15 minute room with her and was glad I did, but I still don't understand why some rando would tell a girl to go sit with someone he never met.

My bank reimburses me up to twice a month for out of network ATM fees. Plan ahead though, I refuse to allow strip clubs, casinos etc. to gouge me even if my bank is going to reimburse it.

Ski - True that. Figured that out when my mother died of pancreatic cancer. Sometimes there is no why, things happen because they happen and you either find a way to live with it, or you don't.
