Stripped: Inside the Lives of Exotic Dancers by Bernadette Barton
Hi Book Guy, I'd like to at least speed read them all! :) I tend to either use Amazon's search inside this book feature or look at what other reviewers have to say. But even that has its limits. I really enjoyed "Patpong Sisters," but the reviews at Amazon seem very negative: http://www.amazon.com/review/product/1559703725/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt/105-8195802-5284417?%5Fencoding=UTF8&showViewpoints=1 One reviewer even called the writer a "cretin." She seemed like a person I would like to meet, btw. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Funny at least the second "feminist" writer whose work I've enjoyed reading. :)

Stripper fees and the idiot premium
Hi David9999, It is funny, but I think sometimes the dancers would rather have 100% jerks and weirdos. There are so few dancers that I've met who have excess "love" available to share. That can actually give themselves emotionally without apparently a high cost to themselves. It is like OK, Mr. Stranger, you want to have a fantastic time tonight? I'm 100% real and love to have a fantastic time. I can deal with numerous emotional demands from nice guys and can have a wonderful time sharing the moment. If you decide to vanish, then I will just remember the fun and not think what could have been. I'd rather deal with weirdos and jerks, then find 100s of women customers who could be Ms. Right only to see them disappear without explanation. Especially, if those 100s of women were regulars. That, at least for me, would be way too much emotional overload assuming I was feeling genuine emotions. It would also be extremely draining. The solution seems to be to build an emotional wall even for those customers who click. I believe this emotional wall is sort of like a scar or in some cases it is just a toughening. This isn't "free" or "easy" money generally speaking from what I can see. Now, the game wasn't always like that at least here in Miami. More small clubs and open discrimination for any reason use to be in play. It makes a difference. More small clubs equalled lower fees and fines hence less stress to shake booty for $$$. Also, it equalled different club cultures so that a dancer could probably easily find a club that was more like a fun hangout or a hell zone depending on her personality. A fantastic example was the old The Trap. Those dancers were having a good time. It was a friendly party atmosphere and you could see it in the dancers. I've talked with dancers long retired and they still feel very positive about The Trap and wish the good old days could return. Those good old days were definitely known to be good old days at the time, which also made it special. :) And, customers hung around just like the dancers. It was fun, but a little upscale for me i.e. middle class. I think it is also "Stripper fees and the emotional premium." Eliminate the emotions and I think the work becomes very easy even if there are jerks and weirdos. BTW, when I was in retail the jerks and weirdos really didn't bother me that much at all. Heck, I'm considered a jerk and weirdo by some people. :) It was being in tune with nice customers that was more draining. Little old lady loses her grandson, who was a piece of shit, and for me it would hurt. I'd feel for the little old lady because she was a sweet customer. Multiply that by a lot of sweet customers and it is like OK please show me some garbage customers so I can relax and be what I'm supposed to be. :)

    Super Bitch's Revenge :(
Hi SuperDude, She isn't an ATF. I've just known her a long time and she used to be willing to provide GFE. Then one day it appeared that I gave her too much excitement and that was pretty much the end of the GFE. Believe me, getting her off--assuming that is what happened and that is the problem--wasn't worth it even a little bit. I'd rather she just fake it assuming she can do a good job. Also, I do go to other clubs. It is extremely difficult for me to find an ATF because I'm no longer patient and don't go to the clubs as often and have gotten old and the number of women who have the looks to be an ATF is small. It seems like mission impossible would be easier. :) Goofball could have been an ATF, but she didn't last long at Angels. In fact, since that horrible storm she has just disappeared. Besides, she rightfully considered me to be financially weak.

    Super Bitch's Revenge :(
Six months??? I'm flesh and blood for crying out loud. :) If she was the only reason for going, then I think it would be pretty easy. As it is I'd rather she just ignore me. Maybe make a fun bet with her, if I had money to throw away? :) $500 if she agrees to ignore me for 6 months and now I just need a fair return if decides to be a pest within that period. Liberation of her small dog and a lifetime ban on new pets? :) For $500, I think it should be real easy for her to ignore me for six months and it would make me feel better. :)

    "R.O.B. Screening"
I had what I thought was a perfect dancer and she turned out to be a multiple personality ROB. A very interesting person whose personality could morph before your eyes. If it was acting, then it was one of the most impressive displays that I've ever witnessed. :) Also, even after being ripped off I would have liked to find some safe way of doing business with her----safe not as in not losing my money. Heck, management was willing to either have her perform or give me a full refund. But, that just potentially starts even more trouble. A clean break was definitely needed and those were breaks. Still, I always think what if. :) Just looking at her made me melt even after her very poor fraud. Poor? Yes, a superior fraud leaves the "victim" willing or needing to spend much more. This poor fraud not only exposed her, but easily she could have lost the money and more. Given her looks and personality, the money could have really rolled in except that she didn't seem to have much control over the different personalities. Some of those personalities were definitely worth paying for, imo.

    Cycles
Not only do I consider it ethical that is a major reason that I go to strip clubs. Unfortunately, too many dancers get beat down by brain dead customers who have no idea of adult fantasy fun. And, I mean brain dead . . . a smile could be too strong a positive signal for some of these customers. "She must be in love with me because she said I have a big dick. Or, it is true love because she says she loves seeing me or called me her favorite customer. Marriage is just around the corner if only I spend another $100 on her." Dancers EARN their money big time and not for the sexual favors or looking super hot, but for all the nonsense coming from idiotic customers. Probably the best customers (from a dancer's pov) I've spoken with just want a handjob or FS and they don't want any fantasy. Just release. So as a customer seeking fantasy, I get clobber on both ends. Pea brain customers who easily fall in love and believe any fantasy no matter how poorly served by a dancer or men who just want some basic rubbing or FS. Those customers, like me, who appreciate a great performance really aren't generally worth the extra work. :( DEATH to the brain dead newbies!!! :) At least those who only need a hand or pussy aren't going into drama mode at slightest niceness by the dancer.

War between the Dancers - has begun
At least for me any dancer wars would be a huge negative more likely than not. I can see the rest of the little clubs closing and government not allowing any new small clubs. Basically, I'd get stuck with Tootsies and Solid Gold. :( Not that I have any interest in stockpiling dollars, but the immediate effect would be just that. Maybe I could trade them for something else like a doctor who will prescribe the medicine that I need.

    "R.O.B. Screening"
I agree with the first 2. I haven't believed in No. 3 in a long time and for me it is definitely worth the risk of a $5 dance to find out for sure. Some dancers actually gave much better dances if they got their money upfront and I believe them when they said they can just focus on the dance and forget about the money. And, yes this is at a club where it is fairly rare to get asked for money upfront. Usually the situation will be management was pushing the dancers hard even threatening fines or the dancer was a newbie or the dancer had been ripped off earlier in the day. Getting ripped off just doesn't normally hurt the pocket book . . . sometimes the overcounting can get absurd and you just have to put your foot down which means splitting the difference and cross her off your list for future dances.

    "Don't Be So Shy" . . . .
Fortunately, for me it seems like the Don't Be So Shy lines come from dancers that I'm buying dances from and not some aggressive dancer trying to push a dance. If they don't get upset with me for being shy, then it is a fine and dandy. :) Wish the damn security guy could understand fingering a girl is actually very tame in this club. ;)

    More consistent ratings.
Hi FONDL, That is one area where I think the small clubs again get screwed by the TUSCL rating system. A customer goes at an off hour or off day to a small club and generally I would expect him to be disappointed. This giant clubs, which I think are shit ala Tootsies and clones, have the advantage of scale. Thus, no matter the time of day there should be dancers and rigid program in place. Apparently that is what some customers expect or want. I'll take the dives everytime. Having said that it might just be my wallet talking. :) If I had gobs of money to throw away or didn't go to clubs often, then the gentlemen's type clubs might have more appeal. BTW, it is very difficult for me to consider the Mons a dive given the prices they charge. At those rates I'd be expecting limo service and free T-bone steaks. :) A dive, imo, is small and cheap or large and cheap. :)

    "Don't Be So Shy" . . . .
Hi David9999, Yes, they are generally very proud of being bad ass girls. :) It has been a few times where dancers have been unhappy that I didn't want sex from them----paid or unpaid. The mindset is that's a man's duty. Too much too soon for little old me. :) This one dancer actually quit on me as far as letting me buy dances claiming that she wasn't going to take "insults." The "insult" was that I told her I needed to know her at least a couple weeks before doing what she was interested in. She says it is the same price. And, I repeated that I needed to know her better, which in her mind was a huge "insult."

Can High Mileage and Low Mileage Clubs Exist in Harmony; if the Law Allows It?
Hi FONDL, What is "LEGAL" is a matter of opinion even when the statutory law is clear. And, it is not merely a matter of opinion between a know nothing layperson and an experienced $400 per hour attorney. You can have high priced attorneys experienced in that area of law all be in agreement over a straight forward and simple area of law and boom the judge see the exact opposite. I gave a link to a case (I was just a "bystander") where the trial judge decided one way, the appeals court decided another way, and the Florida Supreme Court ignored the main issue (which all the judges did) and reversed the appeal court. It is really such an idiotic fraud, but most people in ordinary professions are so slow that they make the attorneys seem like super brains. I guess I should be grateful that the attorneys aren't brain dead also and for all my wonderful "freedoms." :)

Someone did, "Slow or fast?", now, Hard or soft?
It seems like the dancers are way too rough generally for my tastes as well as too fast. Both seem difficult for me to control effectively. Either the dancer gives dances the way I like it or I'm out of luck with that dancer.

    Slow or fast?
Hi evilcyn, Sometimes I get lucky and a dancer like yourself prefers slow and sensual. :) In fact, one slow sensual dancer after I'd known her a while slowed it down even more, which surprised me that there was an even slower speed and I surprised her in that I thought it was fantastic. She says most customers seem to want speed and more speed. She added speed was better only in that it was a lot less personal. She was also nice in that should could ignore the music. :) Seems like most dancers have to be in tune with whatever is played. ***** Hold her head indeed. :) Hunger is a bigger problem for me. A happy customer is NOT a happy meal. ***** I hadn't thought newness had anything to do with it, but then I learned that yes for some customers and dancers start out seeking speed and then get old. :) I always liked it very slow. One very young dancer explained she was going fast to save me money. She was happy to go slow and did a good job, but she thought it was a waste of my money. She was explaining that she could get me off in one song her way. :) (I think unfortunately she was probably correct.)

Do you actually enjoy stripper shi.t and related conversation with dancers?
I'v been called FAT and cheap. Didn't bother me because the dancers were old and ugly and young and ugly and were my buddies who I really liked. Hmmm . . . no, they didn't call me FAT. Just cheap and crude. It was some other dancers more recently that said I was FAT. Apparently it isn't allowed to like slim and in shape if one needs to lose the extra pounds. Does it bother? Depends on the circumstances. If the dancer isn't pissed off, then it makes no difference.

    SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION
    >>>"And as in any business, all the owners ever really care about is people spending money in their establishment, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc."<<< Not really the case and it is disappointing that you believe that. Not only is there job discrimination there is customer discrimination. I'm not free to go to Solid Gold to see the male dancers. The dollar requires the force of law to prop it up to be the end all be all i.e. its all about the money. That is why for example there are anti-discrimination statutes as well as "stings" to *force* people to make money they would rather forego. Even people who preach it is all about the money seem to be lacks in practicing it and if you think about it makes sense. Again and again people trade their all mighty dollars for junk that shouldn't be nearly as important e.g. giving money to charities or churches, buying designer label clothing or polished stones, buying presents, etc. You may wish to see business owners as little profit driven minions, but like other consumers they routinely trade dollars for other interests. So if a business owner believes gays are evil then he is going to be eager to accept their dollars? Maybe or maybe not. Hell, a good portion of his earnings may go straight to the church. Is that generally a bright business decision if the dollar is the end all be all?

    SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION
Hi lopaw, How do arrive at the conclusion that the whole point of a stripclub is to provide a fun place for "ANYONE"? At the old Angels maximizing profits wasn't even the whole point. It was more like a hangout for people who shared common values that weren't standard issue from the media or government. Discrimination was more the rule than exception, but fortunately or not most people who wandered into Angels ended up leaving asap. Your ideal of a stripclub maybe "to provide a fun place for ANYONE who enjoys naked or topless women," and you may get government to force that ideal down other people's throats. BTW, given how difficult it is in some area to open a small strip club that isn't too unreasonable at all. The old 2 wrongs make a right, dealy. Anyway the prevailing view by a huge margin seems to be that government should dictate the "right" choices because they're the "right" choices. I'm probably one of the few, the proud, . . . oops, wrong story line. :) Anyway, I believe people should be free to discriminate based on race, national origin, religion, gender, disability, etc.

The nurse needs to blame someone else? I guess under your theory the nurse was working to protect the doctor or to make me feel better? Well, she had me conned 100% if that is the case. It also seems like the could back fire big time if relatives started complaining to the DEA. Also, seems like a relative could sue for the doctor failing to prescribe pain killers and I think that has happened to some doctors. Especially, if a "conspiracy" was uncovered where relatives learned that the nurse and or doctor try and routinely use the DEA as scapegoat.

I wonder what the deal is with the pain medication. I think, I don't know, that most people that take it take it for pain and that it doesn't give a high. Maybe, I'm wrong and most people get a high. Buying some cough syrup requires government photo id and interrogation--max limit purchase is 2 bottles. So the government is going off the deep end with cough medicine, but some how remains sane when dealing with doctors? I think the nurse definitely knew what she was talking about.

Some doctors allegedly prescribed narcotics too freely, while others issued them to patients who turned out to be dealers or addicts. More than 450 doctors have been prosecuted on charges ranging from illegal prescribing and drug trafficking to manslaughter and murder." http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1083911,00.html "St. Joseph Regional Health Center, which serves the Brazos Valley area, has entered into a Stipulated Agreement to pay the United States $750,000 to resolve numerous alleged regulatory violations of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act, United States Attorney Don DeGabrielle announced today. " http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/states/newsrel/houston080706.html DEA just goes after the guilty, right? A good doctor wouldn't any problem using his best judgment to prescribe painkillers, right? The DEA *is* throwing its weight around the hospitals and gee doctors respond by cutting back on prescriptions for pain medicine. Big surprise, right? If my doctor didn't fear the DEA, then I don't think he'd have any problem treating my foot, knee, and back pains. Gee, I could go doctor shopping, but from what I've been reading that is a "crime" e.g. Rush alleged drug "abuser."

More demands for government to make choices for us and under the ruse of protecting "rights." :) Of course, I hate to admit it, the government is probably a hell of a lot smarter than average joe. :( Thus, if government says NO lap dances, then it probably the right choice along with NO smoking and NO drugs. The freedom of the government making choices for me is just so liberating. No wonder people demanding more and more government.
