My trips are 3 or 4 nights, so rather than have all the money I'm going to need, I always start with around $500, of which about $200 goes toward the VIP card and room at Cascadas upon check-in. Echo what others have said about going Sunday-Monday, even Tuesday, to avoid bigger crowds. Friday-Saturday might be overwhelming for your first time.
