Why solid-state batteries for EVs?
Realistically speaking, most EVs have a range of fewer than 300 miles and it takes more than an hour to recharge their battery packs. The cells also lose nearly a third of their capacity within a decade, and they pose a serious safety risk because of their flammable materials. The decades-known solution has been the solid-state battery, and it’s simply because, instead of a conventional liquid electrolyte, the stuff that ferries lithium ions between electrodes uses a solid electrolyte.
Also, the battery’s negative terminal, called its anode, is made from pure lithium metal. This combination would send its energy density through the roof, enable ultra-fast charging, while also eliminating the risk of battery fires. As EVs account for about 60% of all lithium-ion batteries made today, IDTechEx predicts that solid-state batteries will represent a US$6 billion industry by 2030.
As it is, the battery market is currently dominated by East Asian companies. European and US firms are striving to win this race that might, in their view, shift added value away from Japan, China, and South Korea. Asia Pacific dominated the solid-state battery market with the highest share of 33.0% in 2019. From both technology and business point of view, the development of solid-state batteries has become part of the next-generation battery strategy. It has become a global game with regional interests and governmental supports.

Cobalt, the expensive, rare, and toxic blue mineral that used to make up the entirety of the cathode of the widely-used lithium-ion batteries will gradually disappear in future electric vehicles, making them not only less environmentally harmful, but also cheaper. At least that’s the picture painted by the world’s largest EV battery makers at this year’s virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Why is it essential to go cobalt-free?
To put it simply, batteries typically account for 30% to 40% of an electric vehicle’s cost, and cobalt is one of the most expensive raw materials in the production process. By doing away with cobalt, EV-makers will be able to lower the cost and price of electric cars by up to a third. In fact, cobalt-free batteries already exist; they instead use lithium iron phosphate (or LFP) as a positive electrode material. But these batteries do not carry a charge for long and are only serviceable over short distances.
To begin with, from a commercial standpoint, cobalt is no friend of Li-ion battery manufacturers – owing to the high cost of extracting the element ready for application. This has led to many manufacturers seeking to eradicate the material, although this has not yet been fully achieved. As of now, the cost of cobalt is also set to rise as an effect of its dwindling supplies. In fact, the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) in Germany predicted that the supply of the metal will hit critically low levels by 2050, leading to an increased need to replace its use with new technology.
Finally, from an ethical and environmental standpoint, the material is also seen as an ingredient that quickly needs replacing. The mining process is notoriously unhealthy for its workers, with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting that “chronic exposure to cobalt-containing hard metal (dust or fume) can result in a serious lung disease called ‘hard metal lung disease.’”

Panasonic, a major battery supplier to Tesla, unveiled earlier this year, its new lithium-ion cells that contain less than 5% cobalt. The Japanese company plan to further reduce that percentage to zero in the next two to three years, which is challenging from a manufacturing perspective but is worth the effort for both economic and environmental reasons. I don't think this Josh Avi's SparkCHarge idea is a very good one. It is mostly just hype and marketing concept. It draws some attention because it is new.
Some people with EV fleets will want to buy some power paks, just to they don't need to pull out an extension chord, just like repair shops today use those lunch box like boost starters.
But other than that I think his approach is wrong. Better to have a hybrid vehicle. Say a chassis cab pickup truck, diesel. Like the new GM 2.8 liter turbo diesel I4. Have traction motor and big traction alternator. Then have the biggest battery you can carry.
So you can charge up with ground power. Drive out to a call with the diesel running. When you get there you can give them everything in the battery. After you have done a few calls you are using the diesel to charge up and be able to drive off.
The Josh Avi idea is a gimmick

I don't think there have been any gender reassignment surgeries on minors until very recent times. The only exceptions would have been those with hermaphrodite genitalia. And even this remains controversial.
