There is a big difference between "great" and problem free. No society is problem free. In the 40's, 50's, and 60's, we had a vibrant middle class. We had technological advances and the best manufacturing. We made the best stuff and we did it in house. Most Americans could afford a house and a car. We expanded and built the suburbs. The labor of one man could support a family of four in most cases. Now dual income is almost a requirement for most families. Certainly not against women in the work force, but it used to be a choice, not a necessity. I feel society has lost something now that daycare and public schools raise our children, instead of Mom. Now before you point out the poor race relations, lack of women's rights, sparse environmental protections, etc. I would argue it is not either or. No reason we can't regain what was lost and maintain / advance what has improved.
