Because people are too stupid to realize that in times like this they need to cut expenses. Do you really need an $80 phone plan? Another area is in groceries. I cut mine by $200 a month. I now eat like we did in the 1970s. Which is to rarely buy beef, more vegetables and smaller proportions so that the same meal lasts two days.

I chat up quite a few good looking young women at the gym. Over the past ten or so years I "hooked up" with women as young as nineteen (just like the steely dan song). Used to go to a club ten years ago that a few of the hottest girls in town, and a bunch of fugly ones. The fugly ones would also go tip hunting after their stage show, even when people visibly avoiding looking at their ugly ass. Eventually customers stopped coming the good looking girls left.

I run into a good number of (ex) strippers from 15-25 years ago now that I'm back in Austin (god has this city changed!). Cuban strippers fill a void. Most Mexican and Mexican-American dancers I ever see in clubs are at best "thick". Half of them are easily obese. Cuban dancers usually are slimmer and also taller it seems. But you are right. Mexican-American strippers weren't like that twenty years ago. But now they are almost always fat, if not down right obese.

Once rap/hip-hop took over these clubs they died out. Hip-hop would have been alright, but that hood-ass thug rap decimates everything it touches. I've been telling you guys this would happen for the last ten years. Hi-Liter was pretty good still, at least the dayshift was. Good that is at least to around just before the Pandemic. But yeah, even Bourbon street and certainly Christie's in Tempe went down just before the Pandemic.

What's happening now was going on long before the pandemic. Strip clubs have gone through an evolution the past fifteen years. Going from Gentlemen's Clubs, to Urban Clubs. Anemic dayshift where the hotter dancers only come in at the request of regulars, or on days that draw a regular's crowd- which seems to be Thursdays to me. As others have noted, with most club adapting more urban standards, those closed are packed on weekend nights and most don't even bother to open until after sunset. In Phoenix, out of all the strip clubs there only one is still decent. The only other clubs doing reasonably well are pure urban clubs that make a ton of money on weekend nights. That's the evolution of strip clubs. They evolved going from the Jazz age to the rock 'n roll era. The '80s metal and 90s return to the classic Gentlemen's club evening gowns and no tats, to what we have now. Life goes on.

I liked one dancer in particular who had always been about 5'8 and no more than about 130 pounds. She disappeared from the the strip club scene for a couple of years. The next time I saw her she was on stage at a dive strip club and was about 200 pounds. I didn't recognize her at first until I recognized her distinctive tattoos. Then I heard her name mentioned by the DJ as she exited the stage. I walked out at that point.
