> Here's what we should do. With all do respect I don't give a fuck about your ideas for immigration. They're petty ideas. What matters is the ideas of the neofascist political party you're about to vote for. That party's platform is literally MASS DEPORTATIONS NOW. <<<---- 👀 LOOK AT IT. That's the part of reality you're denying that's right before your own eyes. Say goodbye to your favorite stripper, say hello to concentration camps on our shores.

Here's a link to Kamala's appearance that isn't full of bloat: https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/4793170-kamala-harris-rupaul-drag-race-all-stars/ What's your point @puddy? I see nothing wrong with going on RuPaul's show and telling people to register to vote. What problem do you have with that?

@Puddy: > Those 11 million are demonstrably straining social services and committing crimes (shit. No serious person disputes this. Damn do I dispute this. Immigrants aren't eligible for virtually any social services, that's been federal law for decades: https://www.law.georgetown.edu/poverty-journal/blog/the-cruel-restrictions-on-immigrants-eligibility-for-public-benefits-in-the-united-states/ And they commit less crime than native-born Americans do. https://www.npr.org/2024/03/08/1237103158/immigrants-are-less-likely-to-commit-crimes-than-us-born-americans-studies-find "Illegal immigrants increase the size of the U.S. economy/contribute to economic growth, enhance the welfare of natives, contribute more in tax revenue than they collect, reduce American firms' incentives to offshore jobs and import foreign-produced goods, and benefit consumers by reducing the prices of goods and services." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_impact_of_illegal_immigrants_in_the_United_States > I'll admit, I think little about mass deportation because it's not going to happen, legally or operationally. Here's literally the first two planks of the GOP's platform: https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/2024-republican-party-platform 1. SEAL THE BORDER, AND STOP THE MIGRANT INVASION 2. CARRY OUT THE LARGEST DEPORTATION OPERATION IN AMERICAN HISTORY Remember that Orwell quote?

> 11 million illegals is a fact. It's an estimate provided by DHS not a fact. Nonetheless, that's hardly being overrun in a population of 350 million. And it's hardly a new phenomena. What that stat reflects more than anything else is congress's failure, for decades, to pass meaningful immigration reform. If you could disappear those 11 million people into the night, as the GOP proposes in it's platform ("MASS DEPORTATIONS NOW"), it would be disastrous for our economy. We'd have inflation like in Venezuela. It would mean deporting people who are building new homes, serving you food at restaurants, picking strawberries in the hot sun. And most relevantly, it would include deporting those hot cubanas from the club. Finally, what I was angling at more with the prior comment (and I could have articulated this better) is that the absurdities that Trump would have you believe about immigrants stokes real violence, like the El Paso mass shooting. For a few examples: Trump has claimed immigrants were "poisoning our blood": https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-says-immigrants-are-poisoning-blood-country-biden-campaign-liken-rcna130141 He's said immigrants are "not people" https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/03/16/trump-immigrants-not-people/ And in the run up to the El Paso shooting he called immigrants "invaders" and "killers": https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2019/08/08/trump-immigrants-rhetoric-criticized-el-paso-dayton-shootings/1936742001/ Anyway, next time you're in the club getting a dance from a smoking hot Cubana you want to deport, you should consider the Orwell quote you posted.

Also @Puddy just a note on the cross tab on the economy, from your reuters survey: https://www.reuters.com/graphics/USA-BIDEN/POLL/nmopagnqapa/ That doesn't show that "voters trust the GOP more on the economy." It shows, that voters whose primary issue is the economy prefer the GOP. Two pretty different things. I wouldn't expect the trend on that cross tab to change: if you think the economy is doing well (and, it actually is) the economy is probably not your number 1 issue. If you're primarily informed by Fox News or right-wing social media spewing doom and gloom about the economy, you're probably not voting for the incumbent party. The extremism cross tab is really interesting to me.

> You may wash tge egg off your face now ;) My dude, I am never going to apologize for asking for sources. I would prefer you just include them from the start if you're going to make bold claims. And additionally, I don't think these sources fully support the bold claims you've made. > Biden administration has a record high percentage of public sector jobs Your source says "25% of New Jobs Are In Government", and also elaborates that "Employment gains in government span the federal, state and local levels, with a substantial increase in hiring compared to the previous year. This surge is partly a response to the vacancies left by public servants who exited their roles during the pandemic, alongside efforts to bolster public services that may have been understaffed or overwhelmed in the preceding years." I don't personally see the problem here. That source is also 2 quarters old. As I mentioned earlier, this quarter's surprising +2.8 growth is attributable to "Consumer spending, business investments and new inventory drove almost all of the second quarter’s growth." > Change in price levels is everywhere and undisputed, I'm not sure exactly what you want me to take away from this source. GDP grew more under Biden than Trump. Debt grew higher under Trump than Biden. And yes, inflation grew under Biden, but it's root causes all happened under the Trump administration. Trump juiced the economy with tax cuts for the rich right before the pandemic, which in combination with his pandemic spending caused record debt that drove inflation. > Record amount of credit card debt This wasn't on my radar, but I appreciate source. Something to keep an eye on. I'm also wondering if it's trending downward now that inflation has eased, this is 6 months old... but I can't find more recent data. > Small business bankruptcies here There's no link to the S&P data and I can't find it on my own. I'm also highly skeptical because what would the S&P know about small business failures? > GOP plans for the economy more trusted than Democrats' It's a good poll, but it happens to from when Biden was still the nominee and before the terrific growth numbers we saw this AM. All bets are off now, we need new polling, and then I would be eager to see the cross tabs on the new polling.

Um, Puddy Tat, what atrocities exactly is that leading to? I think what CJ Kent was angling at are things like Believing the absurdity that election was stolen -> Atrocities like Jan 6th Believing the absurdity that our country is overrun by immigrants -> Atrocities like the 2019 El Paso shooting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_El_Paso_shooting

Trap music is what's trendy these days, not just LatAm artists like the above but artists like Drake, Travis Scott and others are dominating the charts, and that's what kids are listening too. And trap music is ALL ABOUT the lyrics. Very light on instrumentation.

@puddy > I can just as easily talk about how much growth has come in the public sector, the change in price levels that can't be undone, record personal debt, record small business failures. I could also make a bunch of wild claims unsupported by any evidence. But that wouldn't convince anyone who was on the fence. So I'm curious what evidence you'd show to support these claims. Especially the one about growth being public sector. The article I read this morning https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/07/25/gdp-q2-economy/ said, "Consumer spending, business investments and new inventory drove almost all of the second quarter’s growth." Tangentially, the article also mentions a slow down in home construction as a drag on growth. That problem might be solved by a rate cut in September. I've said this before but Q3 growth in an election year is one of the best tea leaves there is, and it looks like we're headed for a solid Q3.

Renovations - Cascadas
I think they're still working on it. The back half of Las Chavelas was still closed for construction when I was there last in late June, I think that's where the elevator is supposed to come out. My last trip I stayed at Rizo instead of Cascadas, and it was so much better from a noise perspective. I would definitely recommend the Rizo over Cascadas right now.

Discussions vs Articles
IMHO An article should have two things a discussion doesn't: * Substance: there should be depth to the post that wouldn't necessarily be present in a discussion * Clarity: an article should be well written and meticulously edited.

Q2 economic numbers are out. Growth accelerated to 2.8%, far outpacing expectations. This Biden Goldilocks economy shows no signs of stopping. But I’m sure the Trump cultists will be here shortly to explain why economic growth is actually a bad thing.

@Puddy I can't figure out the source of your +12 poll from the link, it just goes to Harry Enten's home page for me and he's currently posting about cats. But if we're going to cherry pick polls, let's look at this one from Reuters/Ipsos: https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2024-07/Reuters%20Ipsos%20Post%20Biden%20Dropout%20Poll%20July%2023%202024.pdf It's the most recent national poll with N>1,000, post Biden drop out. And it shows Kamala leading among all, registered and independent voters. Still I think it's too early to look at polls. I will hold my breath on Nate Silver turning his model back on next week. I am interested in a couple of other tea leaves though: Massive surge in new voter registration post Biden drop out: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4790269-harris-voter-registration/. (Part of that was driven by Taylor Swift.) Single biggest fundraising 24 hour period for any party ever: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4786610-harris-breaks-fundraising-record/
