One of the best ways to escape poverty is via education. But education isn't a selling point in the 'hood.

I've said for a couple of months now. Facemasks do provide any real significant protection. People don't understand that product effectiveness is wholly different in lab testing than when they are deployed into the hands of end users.
Additionally facemasks are more effective in high contaminated enclosed areas, and less so in open areas. Yet you see idiot news reporters wearing facemask in wide open, isolated areas. Fucking stupidity these days.

How in the world is DeSantis so effective without hasting daily four hour Coronavirus updates on MSNBC? I mean it's impossible for a Governor to manage the epidemic without daily four hour press conferences on a major news outlet. Impossible I tell ya!

They never tell you what you need to know.
Influenza Pandemic, WW 1 & 2, the Great Depression, Cold War eclipsed all the shit going on today. Today is just people being stupid. The good thing about stupidity is that it does have consequences, and course corrections soon follow- unless the stupidity becomes intrinsic.

If facemask stop the coronavirus so well, then why do people get so upset and charge people who don't wear them with spreading the virus?

All these white liberals think BLM is like the civil rights movement of the 1960's, and it is not. They (white liberals) are a bit clueless to the type of people they are supporting, and the message they are sending by supporting them.

Trump was the culmination of 20 years of the GOP engaging in stupidity. Now the Dems, but really the far left, is enraging in the same stupid mentality, but with far greater and longer lasting consequences. Once Trump, and by association Trumpism, is out of the picture, then the more moderate, sane and critical thinkers in the GOP can return. Because while the left is out of their collective minds right now, the only answer the GOP can offer is Trump.

This is isn't like the first few weeks of the quarantine when practically every type of food products were limited. I'm talking now when the grocery stores are as well stocked as they've ever been- with the exception of vegetables, even canned veggies.
Meanwhile there's plenty of breads, meats, cereals, dairy items and especially junk foods. Fewer people in the junk isles too.

Really the only people who should be testing are people who are NOT in quarantine. That is those working. If you want to use testing to measure the spread of the virus among a general population, then use random statistical testing. Health officials and others know this. But they are in a panic and are thinking stupidly.

Also I want to add that I definitely recall seeing Culture Club's video for "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me", much sooner than any of MJ's videos (or The Jacksons for that matter). Likewise with Madonna's "Lucky Star" video. That was during my halcyon college days, and I remember that time like it was yesterday.

Yes yahtzee74! And I know for certain that BET didn't start playing music videos until well after MTV started. As far as Michael Jackson is concerned, CBS records had to threaten to pull all of their artists off of MTV if they didn't play Jackson's videos. David Bowie called out MTV on their lack of black artists in a now famous interview.
It still remains that back then, just as now, black representation was token at best. However as much as I hate rap and hip-hop music (rap after the late 1990's, and hip-hop after the early 2000's at least), it was a way to subvert the music industry and in turn once again make a shunned style of black music, the predominant one.

A year ago there was no way I'd watch Fox News. Now I'd rather watch it, or its news website, than go anywhere the out of control lunacy of MSNBC, CNN or just about anything else on TV other than perhaps PBS. But fuck it. This new crop of young PBS newscasters are putting out more liberal bullshit.

@LongBall That's true for just about every other illness and isn't something novel to COVID-19.
@mark94 - It's natural for other illnesses to decline because we are still into a 3 months long lockdown, and have mostly peaked from the first wave. The population center of the U.S. is in the midwest to northeast which is an area where the virus pretty much first started at in March, for the U.S.

I know you mean to be humorous. But you know when BET started MTV would not play music videos of black artists. They would play videos of white artists operating in the R&B domain ("Hall & Oates", "Madonna", "Culture Club", etc), but not black artists themselves. Therefore BET was an outlet for black artists to participate in an emerging industry- the Music Video industry. In other words MTV was the white network.
Evenually MTV came to their senses, but the same pattern is still present. Blacks and other minorities are hugely under-represented in television, and especially movies. In movies it's more of a tokenism representation rather than a representation based upon demographics. Thus outlets like BET still remain a necessity.

I bet you'll see Trump begin to move to the left as his political power wanes. He's wanting to get into the good graces of New York liberals again. You think Trump wants to spend the rest of his life with the Hee-Haw crowd?

Trump is toast. Outside of Rudy Guilliani (who is clearly suffering from Alzheimer's), and the Hannity/Limbaugh syndicate, he has lost a lot of his most vocal supporters.

I hate to say it, but NYC was in far better shape with Republican mayors than with Democratic ones. Much like the country was in better shape with Democratic Presidents than with Republican ones.

Mexico, Central and South America death are either high or on a trajectory to go higher. As they do the US death rate percentage (of the world) will go down. In NYC over 90% of the COVID-19 patients in ICU and under the age of (I believe 50-60) were obese to morbidly obese. That's really why our numbers are so high. And it's why the numbers will be high south of the border.

A lot of other countries have completed there first wave. We are still dealing with it because we have a very large obese population that is driving up hospitalizations. The U.K., Mexico, Brasil, a good chunk of Central and South America are and will experience high COVID-19 counts due to obesity.
