BIG APPLE
@Estafador Regarding killing brain cells I do feel for some of the girls. As much as I enjoy a drink, it's hard because I remember dancing nearly full time I would get offered drinks left and right. As much fun as it sounds, having multiple drinks a day is not something I could do every single day. So I get it that some dancers don't want to drink if they're working a bunch of hours at the club. It's really hard on the body and can lead to so many issues later in life.
@Papi_Chulo You are right. At the club I recently went to a customer buying a dancer a drink is a good gauge, but it still really comes down to a numbers game. Doesn't necessarily mean "good customer" and will do dances if he's buying drinks.
@Subraman And I am glad too sometimes for guys that only buy drinks. I had an old club regular who only bought drinks for people, but never did dances. We all knew he was always reliable for a drink if we needed a break.

Some dancers just like to drink and/or have to drink to be at the club. I hate to say it like this, but a lot of dancers I know have to drink at work because it helps them feel like they function better.
Sometimes these girls are annoying because they'll camp a good customer all day as long as he's buying her alcohol, but won't ask the guy to do dances when I could swoop in there and get that money.
Once in a while I've worked at clubs that have some sort of drink commission where the girl makes money off drinks the guy buys her. I don't think this was the case here. Just scrolled up and saw Phoenix133's comment and it's also possible that she thought you were done spending. Buying a drink can often be a good gauge to see if the guy came in to spend money.

^Thanks. It makes sense, that area is on fire right now. I was wondering how it lasted so long lol

You could try NYC Gentlemen's club in Queens. Whenever girls left or got fired from an old club I worked at, that's where I remember some of the girls would go.
Is Scandals gone indefinitely or did it just become a new club?

<i>Unless they are extras girls and (or) work otc, I don't see how strippers can possibly make that much money unless they have constant access to newbies and whales.</i>
They probably could earn that much if they were working in high volume clubs in tourist areas, in which they would have access to whales. Many clubs have VIP hosts and if the stripper tips the guy extra, and if he's a good VIP host, he will hook her up with the regs and whales.
I worked at a club like this and my friend also worked with me at the time, and she said a floor guy regularly hooked her up each night. One night she got drunk or something and forgot to tip the floor guy. She never had a room again after that.
<i>I wonder how they calculate earning? Do strippers self report?</i>
Was wondering about this too, how they got that figure.

Breathe, breathe in the air
@Bullwinkle: I'm surprised they said that, I've been in a room twice past closing before and one of them I didn't get out until almost 5 in the morning.
@jester214: There probably were before Giuliani.
The only club that I can think of that is anywhere close to 24/7 would be Show Palace, they had an after hours thing until 8 A.M. on weekends. I'm not sure if they're still doing that.

Interesting read and opinions. Duomaxwell is probably right, when I work in dives it looks like a completely different story. Strung out or drugged up strippers. Pretty much the stereotype.
I can see how some of those things are true. I started out for financial reasons and now I have a college degree. I enjoyed stripping so much I just kept going.

New York doesn't have any that are 24/7. They all close down at 4 A.M. But yes as someone else mentioned generally if customers buy VIPs around closing time, the club will stay open for them.

Ricks was nice too, I went as a customer before. If your wife likes stage shows though, you won't find it since there isn't a pole on the main stage.
Otherwise the atmosphere was good and the club was fairly busy. They have massage girls too that walk around and you can get massages for $10 per song, I think.
Extras are common at the bigger clubs such as Scores, PEC, and Hustler. Especially that last one.

I'm going to have to agree with Bullwinkle, you get more for your money at Gallaghers.

<i>Q1. Do ya'll tell dancers what you really do for a living? (Seems to work well for farmerart but he's got a much more forgiving budget than I do.) Or is "customer shit" call for to balance the SS?
Q2. Do ya'll think what you tell the dancer you do for a living influences what price she expects out of you? (Probably a rhetorical question, but sadly hadn't thought of it before.)</i>
I can't really answer the first question, but yes telling girls what you do for a living will likely result in the girl expecting you to be a bigger spender. I hear a lot of things from my dancer friends such as "You should try such and such club, a lot of stockbrokers and bankers go there," or "I've worked at x club and a lot of the guys are the rich married types with wives, they have money." Things to that extent.
I myself have not directly done this on an individual basis, but whenever I go looking for new places to work I try to keep in mind the demographics of area the clubs are in, to get an idea of what the local clientele would be like and if I would have the look for them to maximize my income (besides reading reviews of the club to get an idea of the place).
Sharkhunter has a great idea, if you want to tell them to truth you can generalize what you do. "Oh, I do this and that, pretty boring stuff." Try to trail away from what you actually do and follow up with something else, like another topic (the club for example). "Oh I do this sort of stuff, nothing too interesting. How do you like working here?"
I think in your case you were unfortunate and happened upon a very pushy dancer. It's tactless and not a good sales skill. But yes dancers will judge you based on what your profession is.

Forgot to add: But usually the more experienced dancers know that guys often come in to clubs to see the different girls so she might understand <i>if you get one dance from her and then say you will be spreading out your money that night</i>. Hopefully.
That's usually what the guys who like to try different girls say. They'll buy one dance from their favorite and the girl is usually alright since she got a bit of money from the customer and that he was up front with her about him wanting to spread his money.

OP this does sound like tough predicament. Depending on the girl you may actually have to switch clubs for a while in case drama develops.
Usually if I were to approach a customer for a sale and I found that if they say "I'm just going to spread out my money a bit," I understand since they want to try the different variety.
What you could do is buy one from her and then tell her that you'll be spreading the money a bit that night, go make your money, and come back to see me later on.
It's tough because if you say something to her like "I don't have money today" but then she sees you getting dances or paying attention to another girl, she will most likely get mad. But usually the more experienced dancers know that guys often come in to clubs to see the different girls so she might understand. Hopefully.

<i>I have noticed lately that the number is customers is way down from this time last year. Many of the strippers I talk to at various clubs have talked to me about this, so some now work 12 hour days, or have turned to extras, where they haven't done so in the past.
I live in Pennsylvania, so I hit clubs in Pa. and NJ for the most part. Have don't of you noticed this happening in your area?</i>
Summer is coming which generally means slower business in many places. Here in the East coast I've definitely noticed a difference, the clubs I've worked/working at at are a little slower these days and the crowd is beginning to taper off. Last summer was also very slow for business.

Papi_Chulo
Miami, FL (or the nearest big-booty club)
Hi Papi_Chulo,
I am curious about this too. Right now I work in an upscale club and unfortunately the dress code there is gowns only, so we don't even have a choice to be able to wear bikinis and the like. I personally prefer bikinis and g-strings, particularly the glowing neon kinds. The stripper gowns out there are very pretty looking, but they tend to get in the way when on stage and while doing lapdances.
This is what I've observed with customers:
The gown look or lacy, sheer things such as stockings and garters seem popular with older customers.
The bikini and g-string look seems to be more popular with a younger crowd (but I'm sure older men like it just the same).
I find that if I'm wearing a very tiny g-string or y-string I tend to get more business.
