5 surprising facts[?] about strippers

A new British study into the lives of strippers has come up with some interesting figures, so to speak — concluding, for instance, that about one in four are college graduates. That's just one of several recent research claims about those who take their clothes off for a living. Here's a round-up:

Strippers earn more when they're ovulating
Strippers make an average of $30 per hour more when they are ovulating than when they are menstruating, according to a study by the University of New Mexico. Women on the pill — who generally do not ovulate — made significantly less. Researchers said this was proof men react to female ovulation, a claim that had some critics scoffing. But, then again, maybe "a stripper who feels sexy gives a more tip-worthy lap dance than one who feels uncomfortable during her period," said Sharon Begley at Newsweek.

Some say they make as much as lawyers...
How much money does a stripper typically earn? According to a new study from the University of Leeds in the U.K., it's around $74,000. That's approximately as much as an American attorney, according to salary experts PayScale. "I congratulate the women who make more money than I do out of a job they say they enjoy," says Katy Guest at the Independent. But that doesn't mean I don't "viscerally object to lap dancing."

... and are quite happy with their jobs
According to the same study, strippers reported very high levels of job satisfaction. The researchers found the women were overwhelmingly motivated by "career and economic choices" rather than drug addiction or coercion. "These young women do not buy the line that they are being exploited, because they are the ones making the money out of a three-minute dance and a bit of a chat," says study author Teela Sanders.

Sweden is being shortchanged by strippers
The Swedish government is cracking down on online strippers for failing to reveal their assets. Internet stripteases are legal in Sweden, and the government says that strippers may be dodging up to $5 million in taxes. "The bottom line" here, says Andrew Swift at Foreign Policy, is that "the Swedish tax authority has apparently never heard of the phrase 'not safe for work.'"

Canada has a stripper shortage
So few Canadian girls are willing to strip that Ontario strip-club owners were forced to hire legal consultants in 2008 to find a way for get foreigners to staff their clubs. Until 2004, the Canadian authorities would give foreign women visas allowing them to strip in the country — but a crackdown prompted a widespread stripper shortage that continues to this day. "The government's putting a real squeeze on the industry," said Tim Lambrinos, of the Adult Entertainment Association of Canada. "It really is affecting our ability to find dancers."

I do not believe every dancer makes that much money but some of the better looking ones I believe are making that much. In every day worker terms that 74,000 number is probably more like 85K or higher when you factor in taxes they probably did not report, unless they needed to report the income to buy a house. Someone should do another study to report on how much of that money strippers actually save towards their future and retirement. I bet it's very little. I don't know, one dancer I know told me she might ask for my advice when it comes to investing. She must be saving something.

I am sure some strippers make more than some lawyers and most strippers are more ethical than most lawyers. A half-way decent stripper can make $50,000 a year, and if no payroll taxes or income taxes are deducted, stripper cash income is equivalent to about $65K to $75K for a traditional job. The US median wage is only about $26K a year. Stripping is a good job for young women without education or skills.

The Canadian stripper shortage is BS. The club owners want to get foreign women who will be cheaper an easier to control. Labor "shortages", especially for low skill jobs, can be remedied by the magic of better pay and better working conditions.

In some cases stripping is a better job option for educated women, too.

Every once in a while studies or published articles about strippers are posted on here that most of us often agree they are not reality; in fact most of the ones I’ve read differ from what I’ve experienced in SCs.

I think that they sample the population in higher-end clubs, because crack whores in dives usually can't be reached for comment due to their phones being disconnected haha.

Plus – a lot of these “studies” are based on what people (i.e. dancers) say. Most of us are often tempted to put a “better face” on things than they really are; i.e. exaggerate a bit or paint things a bit different.

Plus, per what we hear from dancers at clubs or SW; one common complaint for many is often about the lack of $$$

Interesting read and opinions. Duomaxwell is probably right, when I work in dives it looks like a completely different story. Strung out or drugged up strippers. Pretty much the stereotype.

I can see how some of those things are true. I started out for financial reasons and now I have a college degree. I enjoyed stripping so much I just kept going.

Unless they are extras girls and (or) work otc, I don't see how strippers can possibly make that much money unless they have constant access to newbies and whales. What, the pollsters from the UK study actually believe the lies about income strippers tell.....LOL.

With the competition they have from real whores eccie.net and gals wanting to get into the game from SA, unless they can get their hooks into a newbie or whale (rare) strippers here are having a tough time. An expeienced SC player who knows he can get pussy for say 120 (and has numerous whores on roster) is not going to spend more than say 40 dollars on dances. He also knows its how the good girl is as pussy (like does she have a nice tight one or is she loose as goose) that determines her real value to him not that she is some barbie or smooth talking ROB.

I wonder how they calculate earning? Do strippers self report?

I love ovulating strippers. We can sync our periods together, PMS together, and share feminine products. Oh boy!

Unless they are extras girls and (or) work otc, I don't see how strippers can possibly make that much money unless they have constant access to newbies and whales.

They probably could earn that much if they were working in high volume clubs in tourist areas, in which they would have access to whales. Many clubs have VIP hosts and if the stripper tips the guy extra, and if he's a good VIP host, he will hook her up with the regs and whales.

I worked at a club like this and my friend also worked with me at the time, and she said a floor guy regularly hooked her up each night. One night she got drunk or something and forgot to tip the floor guy. She never had a room again after that.

I wonder how they calculate earning? Do strippers self report?

Was wondering about this too, how they got that figure.
