I don't think that anyone outside of the more dedicated contributors here really cares about the content on the public forums. I just wish that Founder had never made the offer of free VIP status for reviews because that's managed to pollute the info there by a different kind of troll. Which, again, is something only the more dedicated contributors here really care about. :-)

Sunday or Monday... there will be fewer women but still enough. You'll also have more space to take it all in and get used to it. If the US is all you're used to, it'll be a bit overwhelming for the first few hours. :-)

Regarding Vitamin V, Besmitty is right. Take the 45 seconds to google for the local pharmacies, one of which (Ahorra) is literally minutes away. He's also right on the taxi.
He is especially right on the ass-slapping thing. You may have been inches away from a hospital visit in a foreign country. Im HK, "no means no" means you'll get a very unfriendly visit from the bouncers.

What will happen really depends on your buddy, who he's facing at the desk, and the border crossing itself.
If he approaches this with any kind of attitude, he's probably screwed because he can and could just get denied entry into MX with no way to fight that decision. Most of the time, though, the MX officers don't give a rat's ass and will just wave him through.
As far as getting back to the US goes, the law says he can't be refused entry. The law also says he can be detained while they confirm his identity and that can take a while. The law also gives the CBP officer in front of him a lot of discretion over the process until he's allowed back in. Until he crosses that magic line, the Bill of Rights does not apply to him. The First Amendment does not apply to him. He's not on American soil yet.
Chances are he'll just get told to have a passport with him next time, but if the CBP officer is having a bad day or he gets up his/her nose, they can ruin his day pretty easily. The guards at San Ysidro have seen it all and this won't be anything new to them. They know why he's there.
Just tell him to be cool and suck it up if he has to. Otherwise, he may well be sucking on it. :-)

Great review, and many thanks for mentioning that the Middletown trolley stop is right by the rental center -- I've been going down there for close to a decade and it never dawned on me that it even existed. :-)
On your questions:
You need to ask at the desk where you got your card for the free drink and lapdance coupons.
Fichas are indeed 10 plus tip.
I've never bothered with the free breakfast because you have to have it in the club and I'd rather just pay for it and eat on the patio in Azul.
I hear you on the room choices. For the past few years I've shelled out for the master rooms for the extra space and an outside window (remember to ask for that when you reserve, not all rooms have one).

The US airlines don't fly there but all the MX airlines do and the fares are cheap... if you're going somewhere else in the country you can usually work out a side trip to TJ for $100 or less.

@Papi_Chulo:
There is no supply-side shortage of stupid people... I've seen that scam first-hand at almost every airport I've ever been to in the world. All five airports in MX that I've been to (including TIJ) have signs for the official taxi starters in Spanish and English and the Spanish word for taxi is... taxi. There are also people who work there who will gladly tell you where to find them. :-)
The fare I quoted above is a flat fare that I get quoted every time I fly in to TIJ, just like the "standard" US$5 fare you get from PedEast or PedWest. The TIJ terminal is a relatively small building so the real taxi stand is pretty obvious and a short walk from the doors.

Cab fare is US$20 and you can find them easily by turning right when you leave the terminal and walking to the end of the building. Haven't taken an Uber from there but I expect it'll be cheaper. It's about a 15 minute ride to HK in typical traffic.

@Papi: The policy for bag searches came as a result of a girl getting knifed at Adelitas... it's an inconvenient but understandable weapons search.
@PT: The camera thing is almost certainly a response to something that happened there. I'd ask your novias about it to see if they know why the management started doing it.

Farmacia Ahorra is three blocks away, just Google it for the exact location. Prices are a small fraction of what you'd pay in the club and it's sold over the counter in Mexico. Bringing back a small quantity over the border is usually not a problem and if you're feeling paranoid about it you can bring an empty aspirin bottle and just take them back in it.

Not sure if you've thought this one through... have you checked into getting residency in MX yet? Another thing to consider is that if you do emigrate, you'll still have to file a US tax return for the first five years... there's a lot of administrivia to get through for a move like this.
Why are you thinking of TJ in particular? I'm guessing it's for the putas. There's far better choices available with large expat enclaves. For example, you could check out San Jose del Cabo which is quieter, safer, and only a 3 hour flight from TJ (usually for under $100 round trip). It also has regular flights to US cities.
Lastly, I don't know if I'd want to have a pricey ride down there...

AFAIK, there's no such thing in Mexico. As OG12346 mentioned, Dominican Republic has at least a couple, but the talent level is nowhere near as high. Next closest would be Costa Rica, but there you're talking about hotels, not resorts. In both cases it's a pricier option than TJ overall, but you're going to get a longer time (1-2 hours minimum) for what a BG charges in HK.

To expand on PuaTester's response:
Pre-Covid, TJ saw a couple of million visitors yearly. The odds are in your favor that you won't get in any trouble as long as you have just a minimum of street smarts. I'm usually more nervous about being on Broadway late at night in San Diego than on Revolucion in TJ.
As far as being in the Zona Norte is concerned, you have to be aware that strip clubs are a high-volume cash business anywhere in the world (including the US) and as such they almost always have a criminal element to them. Going to ANY titty bar involves a risk, but that criminal element wants your cash so they're going to put in a significant effort to minimize that risk because it's easier for them. If you don't feel safe there, then you won't go, and if you don't go, they don't get their easy money. If someone rocks the boat by rolling some gringos, they do something about it.

@OP:
If you're coming from the US, your savings are small at best by going with pesos unless you're mainly looking to hook up with SGs. The BGs all know the current exchange rate because they are taking in USD for the most part and they almost all have cell phones that they will use to figure out the USD-to-MXN equivalency. Unless you're moving enough cash to qualify as a currency trader, it just isn't worth the effort IMO.
@PutaTester:
I have fond memories of the Zona in Juarez, but that was before their troubles with the cartels started. That emptied out a lot of the clubs along the AZ/NM/TX borders (and made El Paso something of a hotspot). "Drink and Drown" nights at the Derby were something to see...

Agree to a point, and only w.r.t. the Verified forum... it doesn't change the fact that most of the site is evolving into something less useful and/or entertaining to me. For a couple of years now, people are getting VIP access for obviously bogus reviews. As a result, I'm far less likely to go to the trouble of either paying for VIP or submitting reviews that get lost amongst the bogus reviews.
Free VIP for a review is the one thing I think Founder should get rid of, to be replaced (maybe) by the ability to see and comment on your own reviews regardless of your status. And (again, maybe) add a separate voting system that lets you flag published reviews as legit or bullshit along with the ability to filter out the reviews that the majority calls bullshit on.
Until there's some easy way to separate the wheat from the chaff here, I'm going to continue losing interest in coming here, let along contributing here.

Greenbeans is right, figure on $100 per arriba plus extra for drinks and fichas, times the number of arribas you think you'll manage. Don't bring anything smaller than a twenty aside from what you need for the taxi. You'll accumulate smaller bills in your change once you're there, and you can get tipping singles from any of the bartenders at HK, Adelita's and CC.

There is no real club scene in CDMX... there are a couple of clubs that are indeed high end but they're definitely not brothels like the clubs in TJ. There's also a small number of hostess bars that are like the ones in Japan. For a long time, the D.F. has been considered neutral ground for the cartels and other criminal enterprises so there's no red light district per se in the city.
Elsewhere in Mexico is largely the same. In the big tourist towns there are some clubs in each, but they're overpriced compared to TJ and aimed at tourists coming in for a quick fix from their cruise. There are smaller places that cater to locals, but they're like the smaller Zona bars, not the bigger ones. It's kinda like gambling in the US -- you can find it all over the place, but there's only one Vegas.
The girls in TJ do make a lot of money, but you have to remember that these are young people in their 20s and most of them don't treat the money responsibly. So they have a good lifestyle for a few years and that's about it. Just like young people just about anywhere else in the world.

Yes, it's usually faster to cross at Otay because most people walking across take the trolley down to San Ysidro:

As far as Uber is concerned, I remember a few years ago that there was some serious bad blood between taxi operators and Uber drivers. Don't know if that ever got resolved, so you may get some drama. By way of comparison, a taxi ride from that hotel to HK will be about $20.

The whole "get free VIP time for submitting a review" setup is broken. You get dudes like this who mostly cut and paste stuff to get VIP access, which lets him look at reviews that are more likely than not these days to be from other guys who just cut and paste stuff to get VIP access. And so it goes.

Only certain SGs, and usually they're the ones by the door for Azul and the south entrance to Cascadas. If you ask them they'll tell you if they're allowed up, that's all it takes.

You watch too many action movies. Suggest that you go through the reviews for ZN clubs from the past few years and flag any that even mention getting stopped by cops, let alone getting abused by them. It almost never happens unless you're actively looking for trouble.
