Oh, come on. Those renos aren't going to pay for themselves and they lost a lot of business over the last year and a half *after* they committed to those renos. I can't see it lasting long because that buck in change almost always goes to the mesero as a tip, so brace yourself -- if their tips go down, it wouldn't surprise me at all if fichas go up to $11. :-)

@shailynn USD is the norm for gringos like us. Using pesos is OK obviously but you need to be fully aware of the exchange rate.

@PutaTester Yes, you can cross back into San Ysidro, but you have to weigh the time/effort to do that against the ability to get cash on the spot. 12% isn't unreasonable IMO compared against hitting a Mexican bank ATM (service charge and currency conversion fee there, usually about 8%) to get pesos and then either negotiating with same or converting to USD. I mentioned it as an option for those like me who don't care much about the fees. On the subject of risk, using an ATM from a branded bank in MX is safe (I've never encountered an issue there and I know how to spot skimmers), and the ATMs at HK and CC are clean in my experience.

And by down the street, I mean a block away. :-)

If you walk out the main HK entrance and turn right, there's a couple of liquor stores down the street. If they don't have what you want, you can always walk or cab it downtown and check the stores there.

Nice review, good intel... can't wait for my own trip in a couple of weeks. A note about the wristbands -- they have no problem giving you a replacement at either front desk at Cascadas if you're staying there.

IMO, 8am is too early for day shift girls and too late for night shift girls... HK will be sparsely populated and the other clubs will be dead. Before 10 or 11-ish, you'll only see a handful of BGs and a whole bunch of meseros restocking the bars and cleaning the place.

Good stuff. If you look at HK on Google Maps, you'll get a sense of why the cab ride can feel long because there's no straight path for driving there from the border crossing. It's actually not a bad walk during the daytime, but walking it with a wad of cash is inviting trouble if you're not used to the area. The meseros are unavoidable sometimes and you just have to get used to it... only tip I have for you there is to look at the areas of the club where they congregate and grab a table far away from them. :-) They're also a little more laid back upstairs as opposed to the ground floor. Pulling out a wad of cash on the street is something you generally don't want to do anywhere in Mexico, let alone TJ. Worst case, you can always go into a stall in the bathroom. On the plus side, it's a good thing that you noticed that *they* all noticed when you did this. Overall, my biggest comment to you is to be ready to say no (and do it) when you feel like you're being hustled or you're just not into a situation. They've heard it before and can cope, and if you're friendly about it you can usually pick up where you left off with them if you change your mind. As you said, there are plenty more BGs and waiting for the right one can pay off.

Damn, your title gave me a start when I saw it... :-) The $100 going rate was a long time coming, so not really surprised there. I just hope they don't bump up the ficha price for a while -- those renos are pricey, even for Mexico.

Nice review... you packed a lot into 6 hours. Do you just stick to HK or do you hit the other clubs as well? Chicago Club has lower quality girls overall but the fichas are usually way more fun. :-) @mets1986: Lap dance booths are 5 min a pop. You can get a 30 min VIP booth for $60 (plus tip to the girl) but at that price point you may as well just go upstairs.

I guess the upshot is that in the TJ clubs, you're not getting pushed towards a girl by anyone who isn't a club employee or another girl. This is not the same as saying the BG you're with doesn't have a leech attached to her outside the club.

If the girl has a pimp, how are you going to know? Do you think the people on this site are on the inside of the business there? My own answers to your questions are basically don't know and don't care. Prostitution is legal in Mexico so pimping isn't the same there. When you pay for services, it goes into the girl's hand, and after that who knows outside of what they tell you.
