I've never been molested by the cops or the robbers down there in ten years of making regular trips. All you need to have a great time down there is basic street smarts, just like you would in any other unfamiliar city. I also take mostly 50s and 100s... I've never had an issue getting change. Best bet for that is to go to the back bar on the ground floor of HK because it does a lot of cash business once the shaving cream shows start.

Kinda off topic, but I'm a bit surprised that you rate a city like Rio as safer than TJ based on what I've read... I'm at the point now where I have passable Spanish and I've never felt unsafe pretty much everywhere I've been to in Mexico. I don't think I'll ever figure out Portuguese -- have to say I'm also surprised that it's not more of an impediment. For that reason alone, I think I'll try a latin country in South America before I try Brazil.

I think you were on a webpage for Sentri (what do those 4 states have in common? :-))
GE can be got here:

The two programs are different as K mentioned. The people who use Sentri/Nexus the most are truckers who cross often. GE is more for business travel. There aren't a lot of Nexus stations in US airports because a lot of Canadian airports have US CBP onsite and you arrive at a domestic gate. You can also use a Nexus card at a GE kiosk.

Global Entry is for people who travel to a lot of international destinations on a regular basis. Sentri and Nexus are for US/Mexico and US/Canada respectively (but AFAIK they both work at both borders). For you, I'd just go with the cheaper option.

Hotel Jalos is cheap, but it's also a shithole. Definitely not recommended.

It's very hard to see how management wouldn't at least be aware of it. The meseros and BGs are all on a tight leash and they can be turfed on a moment's notice. HK is a golden goose for them and they're not going to rock the boat. Find a few former employees and ask them if their life changed for the better after they were fired. They know they can be replaced with little to no effort.
Pushing your annoyance onto the staff or the girls is only going to show you how little power they have to change things. Offering a BG $150 for "sexo sin cervezas" is not a good idea.

Lol, you lie -- you been to TJ. I'd file that under "other options" young man, unless you somehow managed not to get lucky there on more than a few trips. :-)

I don't do escorts for pretty much the same reasons when I'm home. It's a whole different ballgame though when you deal with independents in a place where SW is legal... you can easily meet in public, have a chat, drinks, meal, etc. before starting negotiations and there's nothing clandestine about it.
@drewcareypnw
Dunno if clubs represent a less risky choice, especially if it's an extras club. :-)
Let me give you a counterexample: There's a hotel in Costa Rica called Sportsmens Lodge. They allow independents to hang out in the bar area, but they also vet them and maintain a blacklist of girls who make too many waves. You're free to hang out with them, negotiate, and take them to your room without any restrictions and the hotel won't bother you at all even if they spend the night. They make their money from the bar and the rooms, both of which are somewhat more expensive than average for the area. They get 100% of that, and the girl gets 100% of what you negotiate with her (there's also legal reasons for why it happens this way).
So you get place, selection and security at the time of your choosing (as long as it isn't something like 9am :-)). On top of that, you have your own space to have fun in without worrying about club rules, and the ability to bring a girl in from the outside as long as she isn't on the blacklist. Overall I liked CR as a mongering destination, not so much as a vacation destination.

This is a very rare thing for me, and over the past few years I've had quite a few sessions stretch to a couple of hours. Rather than get pissy at Papi Chulo you should maybe pay more attention to what he's saying. This is happening to you either because the girl is in on it or the management and/or the meseros are targeting you. I suspect it's the latter.
Rather than bitching at the girls you should be getting into the grills of the HK and Cascadas managers who are working that night. If it's the girls starting this you should especially let them know because it's bad for business.
@Papi:
Going to Rizo instead doesn't help -- it's directly above Tropical Bar (run by the same people) so you get a mesero from TB instead of HK. :-)

With the right girl, the jacuzzi can be awesome. Big but, though -- check it out right after you get in the room. Some are left uncleaned and some don't work properly. And remember to ask for extra towels before you bring a girl up. :-)

Makes sense. I've always been curious about the sugaring sites but I have a native distrust of them after what happened with Ashley Madison. That may change this fall as I'm planning to pick up & set up a burner phone on my next trip to MX. I'll have an alter ego to use then...

I guess it's a difference in terminology. Ultimately SA is about sex work from the point of view of this forum. My own preference seems to be to "seek" that away from where I live, and maybe that's because I like to travel to far away places. I do have a club ATF that I visit with locally once in a while, but we live far enough apart that the chances of meeting on the street are pretty much zero. Does that ever factor into your decisions?
@wallanon:
The differences between the two are pretty clear IMO. I think if you're not into OTC then it's kinda a moot discussion for you? I've come around to the idea that a lot of the places I like to visit are open for P4P and it's an attractive prospect...

Definitely bring as much cash as you're comfortable carrying from stateside to avoid the ATM and currency exchange surcharges. I would bring mostly larger bills (50 + 100) because you can easily get change at any of the bars, and by that I mean the bartenders, not the club -- do not trust a mesero to get the change for you unless he can do it on the spot.

You can drive across, but you need an insurance waiver to be covered there. I wouldn't bother for a number of reasons. The driving rules are different there (the unwritten rules, not the legal ones), the insurance will cost at least as much as parking stateside, and the car lineups can be pretty bad. Plus the layout of the roads in TJ is fucked up. Parking in the two bigger lots in San Ysidro is reasonable ($15-20 a day) and safe if you keep things in your trunk.
The border crossing is 24/7 so no worries there. Check the TJ articles here and PM if you have more specific questions.

Glad you had fun...
If you want to de-stress your crossing back a bit, there's two apps for your phone. First is BWT (border wait time), put out by CBP. It has real time stats showing how long it's taking to cross over at San Ysidro. Second is the TSA app that will have similar data on how busy the airport is. Based on your description you rented a car so this will factor in your timing as well. Next time you should try the trolley to get down there and back because it consistently takes just under an hour and that's easy to plan around.
Agree about the overpayment -- the BGs generally see an extra $20 as a really good tip. By tipping $50 you can get yourself marked as a sucker (the BGs can and do talk to each other), or worse, get you ripped off. Drinking too much increases that risk, so be careful. The Zona is generally safe but that can change in a hurry if you're drunk enough to forget basic street smarts. I usually alternate beer and bottled water to keep the buzz down.

This is the market at work... they charge it because they can. CC and Adelitas upgraded their bars a few years ago, but without upgrading their respective hotels they never recaptured their share of the overall business in the ZN. I have to wonder what's preventing them from trying to take advantage of things like this.

Short answer is well, yeah, of course. The hotels are run by the same people as the bars but they're run independently. A few times I've come across actual tourists who book a room at Cascadas without realizing that it's not a "regular" hotel, but that's a different story. :-)
If you do want to have sex, you can do one of three things: get a VIP booth inside HK (expensive without being worth it), rent a short time room for 30 or 60 minutes (might be worth it with the right girl), and book your own room for the night.
The last option is the most cost effective if you're planning on multiple trips to bust a nut and that's about it.
If you do get a room, remember that you can check out any time you want just like a regular hotel. No one is going care if you spend the night or not.

I don't agree about not spending much on fichas... I see them as part entertainment, part investment. If you're there for a couple of days, you're going to spend time just hanging around in the club but not ready to pull the trigger and go upstairs. Might as well spend that time with company, and the girl will remember you when you're ready. When I go, I like to budget an equal amount of money for fichas/tips/drinks that I bring for arribas if not slightly more.

Nice travelogue, dude. You should put together an article just for foodie options in Tijuana. :-)
I'm kinda skeptical about the idea of a BG having 100 fichas in a shift... assuming that it would take an average of 5 minutes per drink that's like 8 hours of drinking, not to mention the fact that she'd have to have a bladder the size of an autobus. Lol.
On the subject of upstairs in HK, I usually go up there when I want some time to myself as the BGs don't seem to approach me as often up there. When Chavelas was separated I used to go there for the same reason, but now it's more to check out the freshly arrived BGs and to avoid the crowd at the entrance of HK...

@tuscl666:
Your primary option is escorts as the strip club scene there is pretty dead and there is no red light district to speak of. If you have any control over your travel itinerary, you might consider flying to San Diego, staying in TJ, and then flying from TJ to CDMX. Alternatively, you could do a side trip to TJ while you're in CDMX by flying down early or leaving late. Airfares within Mexico are pretty cheap.
