I personally could give two shits for social approval. Damn man people who become engineers are typically not very good with that anyways. Have you ever seen most of us introverts? The only approval that matters from the standpoint of social approval is acceptance that the degree means something and that it is a blanket "certification " you actually know your craft. That sorta helps when you are finding employment since the concept of guilds went out of favor quite some time ago. Education is real unless you would rather rediscover Newton's laws on your own.

I had some gf's and also lived like a monk dedicated to my engineering program. I don't see any correlation other than budgeting time and not losing focus on the key objectives. If you are just floating through school and don't have goals you are not a willing participant to begin with and any distraction, female or otherwise will send you easily off the rails.

I also lived near a Detroit Metro Airport and there was constant air traffic normally. I will never forget the days of silence of the skies and the complete absence of contrails in a perfectly clear blue sky. Once in a great while there would be a military jet on patrol.
I also remember people suddenly became polite and courteous. The road traffic was also much less aggressive. There was a general feeling in the air of unity after that. That has faded over time.

I actually worked for a Company at that time that did daily business with Cantor Fitzgerald on a daily basis. Their phones went dead and ultimately it was discovered that many of their staff were killed. I remember watching that debacle and saying "As a nation we are now at war with somebody".

I really think the number is a variable based on how much you are willing to offer, how she feels about you (is the vibe a creep or cool), how long she has known you, is there other benefits being with you like future reliable income or something she likes about you. I honestly feel the number is very high in absolute terms as her perfect customer (like 80%+) but if you are a cheap creep its gonna feel like 5%. Stop being cheap and a creep and the number goes up...
I have gone OTC with non-extras dancers but that takes some time and $ investment to develop that relationship.
