Its fun to see Wall Street- and by extension the Trump Administration and the elites of both parties- freak out over the effect of Covid-19 on the economy. I am reminded of the fine work done by Stanford Endocrinologist Robert Sapolsky with a baboon troop which changed its culture drastically after a disease outbreak killed off the Alpha males of the tribe (They had contracted disease from raiding the garbage dumpsters behind a lodge which held tuberculosis tainted meat, which totally anihalated another troop). When the Alphas died off, the tribe became much more egalitarian and less heirarchal in structure, less prone to acts of violence to keep 'social order' within the troop. Naturally, Sapolsky's baboon troop is a much smaller unit than 'Murica or the world economy, but if the disease impacts the people who are driven toward economic success over those who value nurturing the herd, we could see a change in the social stratification after the dust settles.

Hope it comes together another time, at least you have a chance to study some German before you go now (if that was even desirable).
