Game 7, 2008 Stanley Cup. My two favorite teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings playing hard, clean hockey. Pens are up 2 to 0 with about 6 minutes remaining and Detroit scores on a hard one-timer from the blue line that Fleury deflects with his shoulder but not quite enough.
Both teams play hard, the last minute with the Red Wings having an empty net and an extra attacker. Detroit is around the net like a bunch of killer bees. A shot from Fleuy’s left is stopped but the rebound goes out to his right, right onto the stick of a Detroit player. Fleury lunges to his right, two quick bounces on his knees and takes the ensuing shot high on his chest pad, deflecting it into the corner where time expires. Pens win, 2 to 1. The crowd, a Detroit crowd, applauds the effort if both teams.
One of the most exciting games I have ever seen.
