Sorry. That should be "only one strip joint in the whole state," not stage. Stupid fingers anyway.

The Kongo Klub's in South Dakota, not North Dakota. North Dakota has the very dubious distinction of having only one strip joint in the whole stage, the Club Northern in Fargo. And dances in Winnipeg are not full contact. They've got the three-foot rule going on there.

Hot girls, hard times
That $10 tip for some extra privacy might've been a red flag for the bouncer, especially if he takes his role as a chaperone seriously.

Why?
No kidding. I have to wonder why she's still there. The other dancers seem to have regulars -- regulars that don't buy many dances but at least keep the drinks flowing -- but that ditz, she's probably costing the place business.

KOD was a bust this Saturday night so I tried DTC for the first time.
The building's on the National Register of Historic Places; that could be why they can't do any real extensive remodeling.

Week day experience @ KOD
Dim lighting? Very dark? I always thought the KOD was really well lit.

King of Diamands just okay
No offense, Okisdad, but are you sure you reviewed the right club? Dances were $20? Last time I was there, back in August, they were just $10. And I've never seen any tableside dances there; they're always in either the seats/mini-booths facing the stage but back away from perv row or back in the VIP. I think there might be a city ordinance that prohibits tableside, not to mention touching.

Unfortunately not a fun time, this trip...
Similar thing happened to me back when the club was Shiek's. Dancer I hadn't seen in a few years stopped by my table, commented that she had been in Hawaii for three years and she knew I wanted to see her (as if I knew she was back?), then asked me for $50 to sit and talk with me. Okay, I might've been rude doing this but I couldn't help but chuckle at that notion. She got in a snit, said, "My friends would tip me," then walked off in a huff. Even though we hung out way back when (even outside the club a couple times, strictly as friends, nothing more involved), I guess I wasn't her friend anymore. Darn.

Return to Sche...er...Downtown Cabaret
On a side note, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I thought it used to be a Federal Reserve Bank, but the register lists that it was SP Minnesota Farmers and Mechanics Savings Bank and built between 1891 and 1893. Sort of makes me wonder if that's why the owners of Solid Gold and later Sheiks had the interior designed they way they did, as sort of an homage to those days gone by. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93201862 There are a couple cool pictures of the place, too, from 1905 and 1920 (pages 10 and 11). Wow. I'm starting to feel like I'm having an SJG moment here. Help me. Please. Someone help me.

Nixur, yeah, no kidding. Someone at Rick's, the company that owns Downtown Cabaret, must've thought that the remodel was an improvement. Makes me wonder if more of the Rick's properties are now like this, a visually and aurally loud dance club-type rubber stamp instead of individual class, taste, and style.

Older than dirt
OT Depression
Good luck, Gawker, and I hope everything works out for the best. I've suffered from depression most of my life, and the past year and half, with Mom's passing and Dad's diagnosis of mild-moderate dementia (in the same month), it's really been hitting hard, and it's especially hard when I see Dad slipping just that little bit more. So, yeah, you're not alone out there, in no way, shape, or form. All I can recommend is try to take it one bout at a time, one day at a time. If you have a list of things you need to be done, particularly things that you don't really need to prioritize, start knocking them off with the smallest, most easily accomplished thing and work your way up the list. That feeling of accomplishment can do wonders. Also, when you can make the time for yourself, take time for yourself. Drive, catch a movie, hang out with some friends, maybe get involved in a social hobby, like playing board games -- take time to just breathe and forget the rest of the world. That breath of mental fresh air will also do wonders. Good luck, take it easy, and take it all in stride.

Good luck, Shadowcat and Vince. I hope things go well and smoothly. Just a suggestion: Don't bite the doctors. For some reason, they just don't appreciate it.

OT: will you miss Mythbusters?
MythBusters is done? Damnit! Any idea if Adam and Jaime will continue doing their annual tours? They've been in the Twin Cities twice now -- and I missed both shows.

Chicken dancer?
When I saw the title to this thread, I thought it was going to be about a stripper who did the Chicken Dance on stage.

What do you like to do on vacation?
25 and MrDeuce: Okay, even though North Dakota's technically a state, as a resident, I can safely say it's much more of a black hole than a politically defined region.
