Return to Sche...er...Downtown Cabaret
Back in the '90s, back when it was Scheik's, I used to hang out at this place -- a lot. It was all class back then, lots of wood and brass and marble, beautiful women in gowns, music that didn't drown out everything and everyone. Nuts, a few times I'd wander on in and before I could sit down, Angie, one of the servers, would have my drink to me, ask if I wanted to order a burger, and if I wanted her to get Pamela, one of the dancers, for me. It really was a place that made me feel welcome, and I always looked forward to it.
That was then. This is now -- and I don't like now.
The front counter used to stretch almost the length of the entry. Now it's little more than a desk. A wooden case featuring bottles of liquor (or would that be "liqueur"?) stands at the end of the entry, just before the main floor; I think there might've been cigars in there, too. But that's pretty much where any sense of class starts and stops. The cover was $10, same as before, probably the only good thing I want to say. The woman at the desk/counter seemed professionally polite, not genuinely friendly.
