SJG "They say that all Tijuana food has been toned down for Gringo tastes."
Not true. Went to dinner with a sweet Mexican chica 2/13. She chose the restaurant, which was just off Constitution. I like it spicy, but the salsa here tore the roof off. It was too much even for the chica. It depends on the restaurant, but as with all things, YMMV.
In another experience, the locals were laughing while a friend and I were having lunch. I said that I liked salsa and heaped some on. Three alarm. My friend was laughing too.
I find the hot sauce bar at Tijuana Flats insulting, who needs Asian Mae Ploy at a taco joint. Hell 90% of the sauces aren’t even Mexican/Hispanic and don’t even go with the fare. Plus, the hot sauces themselves are very below average; now the hot sauce collection at Firehouse, that’s a thing. But too each their own. I mean if youre serving mex and don’t serve cholula or tapatio, fuck off.
i usually don’t put hot sauce on anything. and if I do it’ll only be because it really needs something. (and it will be a very mild hot sauce.) I am a hot sauce wussy.

Did this oral experience send you racing to the shutters? If so, did you get good mileage while racing?

This does NOT look up to proper Tex Mex standards.
You march your ass back to TX and sing Deep In The Heart x10 and think about what you've done.
