When kids carried rifles on the school bus for the school's rifle team, or shotguns on the back of their trucks to hunt after school, we didn't have school shootings. What has happened since? It's not the presence of the gun. While there are more guns in circulation than ever, we've seen a steady downtrend in the number of households that own one. We don't have a "gun problem," we have a values problem.

I got racially harassed once on the New York subway. Empty train in lower Manhattan, late at night. Nothing more happened. I was in my mid-20s when it happened but never fancied myself a "tough" guy. Nothing to gain. I don't look or act like a victim. I'm told I look pretty intimidating, don't bury my face in my phone or wear headphones, don't flaunt cash or jewelry, rarely dress up without a reason. But at the rate New York is going I expect another Bernhard Goetz incident.

There aren't any black clubs in my neck of the woods. But at Desire (for example), I see all races of guys talking to all races of girls. As my tastes range towards non-white women, I preferentially get dances from them too. Never seen anyone get the business about hating black/brown/Asian women. In fact, I've seen a lot of them play up the "exotic" angle, referring to parts of their body as "chocolate," or saying "papi" or calling themselves "spicy," or taking a name like Jade or Lotus that plays on their ethnicity. I'm not an escort guy, but when I've perused escort ads, I see more black women than any other race saying "no black men (often no black men under 35)." I guess even women have their stereotypes.

I've never had an ATF, but a couple CFs who I knew I could have a good time with if I didn't find anyone better. (Both knew I might like them but have eyes for another that day.) @gamma, I agree we need to do that, but discretionary spending on the whole is fairly small. The big items are Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, and defense. There aren't enough rich to tax to make up the difference. Either we implement broad tax increases or cut the above.
