“Hillary Ronen is one of the 11 supervisors who will decide on a wide-eyed reparations plan for the city’s black residents that would pay them each $5 million, promise them $97,000 salaries and wipe away personal debt.”
If San Fran wants to be an object lesson in how to destroy a city, let them have at it. As long as the state and fed tell them "you're on your own--you want to jump off a cliff, we're not going to hold your hand." Of course, progressives have raped Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, and many more, and we haven't learned, so...

I think that basic math is going to force a reckoning on Social Security and Medicare. With the skyrocketing cost of debt, we aren't going to be able to deficit spend our way out of it forever. There aren't enough rich to tax to fiscally stabilize it.
It's a question of when and how painful it will be.

All the 2024 talk ignores one thing-- the economy. If inflation, unemployment, and wage growth are shite enough, Trump (whom I loathe, even if I'm a Republican) could get re-elected from the deepest cell in Ft. Leavenworth. And if it times are that good and he hasn't gotten caught with his dick in a boy or a dog, Biden could get reelected in a cakewalk.
Personally I find the democratic fixation on Trump the man to be comical. Trumpian populism is here to stay, no matter whom the standard bearer. Like someone said above, the left thinks Trump _is_ the movement, and they're mistaken.
Trying to moderate itself to win "moderate" voters is a relic of the past. The democratic media savaged McCain and Romney for the crime of running against their Chosen One. A slightly pro choice, woke-neutral, bipartisanship-embracing Republican would pick up only a few crossover votes. Dems would still flock to Biden. Conservatives would stay home or vote 3rd party.
An indictment will motivate Trump’s core, validate their mistrust in the judicial system and the media. If anything it'll satiate Democrats who hyperfixate on him and have already turned out en masse against them. I've also heard "we've got him now!" about Trump so many times that until he's in cuffs, I just DGAF.

^ _May_ have been = don't be so sure, trying to score political points with it.
And yes, I said above multiple times that there's no connection between SVB's "woke" policies and going bankrupt. It's old fashioned piss poor risk management.

^ I'm not placing my opinion against Politifact, I'm putting publicly available capital ratios against it, and a professor who used enough hedging language to make it sound like an opinion.
If you just have a compulsion to make this "Republicans bad," then be honest about it.

@wld, I have news for you if you consider Politifact (or any "fact check") to be authoritative. That label is just marketing from another opinionated media outlet. The capital ratios are real.
And yes, big institutions love compliance costs. They keep competition out of the market.

Reviews of the "architecture," I don't care about. Descriptions of the VIP area and level of privacy are important.
Descriptions of the girls and mileage are mandatory. I won't approve without them. That's the #1 thing I look for on any review. It's the difference between a strip club and any other bar.
If you stopped into a place, had a beer, noticed but didn't describe 3 dancers, then walked out, you don't have enough info to write a review.

The posters before discussed it well.
Depends what kind of dancers you like (I've been to a bunch of clubs that are Latina in the afternoon and black at night)
Depends what you want to do, chat with girls or make it rain or get VIPs
Depends on your scene, more chill or more party
Read a bunch of reviews of different days and times for your club and you'll see.

"We can't know for sure, but it's not unreasonable to say that Dodd-Frank might have helped reduce the likelihood of the sequence of events that took down SVB."
Whether or not you're "buying it," your ability to believe it or not has no bearing on the validity of the argument. Could it have? That's all speculation. What we do have are the numbers.
Politicians are going to try and make hay off this. Warren claims it was weakening of regulation, DeSantis claims it was woke. Neither appears to have merit.

It's simplistic to connect the bank failure to the Economic Growth Act. Their capital ratios according to annual reports were well over the minimum, even when its assets crossed into Dodd-Frank territory. Even if the EGA (aka the "rollback" of Dodd-Frank) were passed, SVB would not have been in breach of it. Of course Democrats are going to try and make hay over it--it's what politicians do.
This was a classic bank run. They were overexposed to tech, and Silicon Valley has the ultimate herd/FOMO mentality--when one withdraws, the others panic and do the same. They bought long-term treasuries and MBS with their deposits, and when the withdrawals started, were forced to sell them cheap. No risk officer worth their salt wouldn't hedge interest rate risk, especially when these rate increases surprised no one with an IQ greater than their shoe size.
At the same time, it's not about "woke." It's a bad look when your head of risk is more focused on being a lesbian than doing her job, but you can't say one caused the other.
Signature Bank--Barney Frank's (D-MA) Signature Bank--did similar, only with crypto. If there are any bigger herd animals than tech, it's crypto idiots. Crypto still relies on finding a bigger sucker.
