Personally, I'd work on whatever was holding me back from participating first. However, if it is a fetish go for it. I think any new high end phone will capture good enough quality if it's held steady. Maybe get a camcorder for better quality, but I wouldn't spend more than around a grand on it. It's home video, not pro so I think I would be looking at diminishing returns on higher and higher end cameras.
I get pretty damn good results from my samsung note 9. I prop it up on a table pointed at the bed and let it record while we're going at it. Not as good as if the camera were moving, but last time I just kept moving us around the camera to get different angles I wanted.
Definitely pay attention to the lights like you said. Have all the lights on and try not to have the light shining into the camera.
