Have not been shaken down by cops during annual trips the past five years but have read enough stories to realize it's extremely possible, if not inevitable. To mitigate the risk, I don't wander out of the ZN (HK and Cascadas) except to the corner taco stand. Also don't carry my wallet or much cash when going even that far. If it happens, don't escalate the situation. If you're out $30-$50, it's a small price to pay considering potential alternatives. I'd just chalk it up as a sex tax.
