US Surpasses Sweden in COVID-19 Deaths Per Capita@savage, my GDP numbers are outdated by at most 3 weeks. Post where you're getting your year-end estimates. So far Sweden wins for having vastly more per- capita deaths.

US Surpasses Sweden in COVID-19 Deaths Per CapitaDenmark has had a grand total of 12 deaths since Aug 1.
It's intended to be approximate. If I use 0.1% infection fatality rate, that gives about 215K deaths. We'll most likely be there in about a month.

US Surpasses Sweden in COVID-19 Deaths Per CapitaFor @DocSavage: Graph of per-capita deaths of Sweden and neighbor Denmark:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KPon_pAw9Eb5eHx2Aok5UxWJL1PfMK4G/view?usp=sharing
Both had about the same 8% decline in GDP.
For @Orion: Do you think something you heard from your pastor's wife convinces anyone that most MDs are feeling pressure to falsify death certificates? If anything, Covid deaths are understated. As I posted above: bullshit.
Quick back-of-the-envelope calculation:
(1) The population of US is about 330M
(2) An estimate of Covid infection fatality-rate: 0.3%
(3) Herd immunity occurs when 65% of the population is infected.
(330M)*(0.003)*(0.65) = 643K deaths if we follow the Swedish model.

____________
No, the US has in the range of 500 to 1200 deaths per day as of early september. Trump's new darling medical advisor (Scott Atlas) wants the US to emulate the Swedish approach.

LiwetIf she walks away smiling, you spent too much.
What would you say to someone who wanted to spent the most money in a strip clubIt depends on whether I cared about this person.
If I didn't care, I would laugh behind his back and make subtle sarcastic comments.
If I did care, I would explain that there's nothing more shallow and idiotic than attracting attention, with money, in a strip club. Then I'd recommend psychiatric care.

Biden “Press Conference” The reality is that Biden's too old to run for president and those gaffs are cringe-worthy as a Dem. If he can't get his act together, it's going to be a painful election season. With Biden falling into senility and Trump bragging about acing his Alzheimers test at Walter Reed, the rest of the world must be laughing at us.
In the primaries, the Dems had two Rhodes Scholars and a Harvard Law professor, but we ended up with Joe Biden. Liz Warren would have ripped the living shit out Trump in the debates, but the reality is Biden was probably the best bet to beat Trump. Likewise, Hillary's an extremely bright and competent woman. If Hillary were in office during this pandemic she would have assembled the best and brightest and she would be there synthesizing the science into a workable plan. Our version of Angela Merkel. But instead, we have a reality TV buffoon, 185K Covid deaths, and surely more to come.
It's depressing and a bad reflection on our country.

Covid is overblownhttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/03/world/covid-coronavirus.html#link-70ca6833
President Trump’s vaccine chief sees a ‘very, very low chance’ of a vaccine by Election Day.
Moncef Slaoui, the chief adviser for the White House vaccine program, said on Thursday that it was “extremely unlikely but not impossible” that a vaccine could be available by the end of October.

Minor point, but @Mark is leaving out that US & Sweden are the #10 & #11 WORST in the world, per capita. And Sweden did not escape economic collapse.

Covid is overblownIf you're reading this, @Mark, I didn't downvote your post and I'm not using that feature.
However, I can guess why you were downvoted: we can't trust scientists from our government agencies, anymore. We just had the FDA granting emergency use for convalescent plasma without clinical trials and scant evidence that it works. It's effectiveness in preventing death was grossly exaggerated by the FDA. We have new guidance from the CDC and they no longer recommend asymptomatic testing for Covid (which doesn't make any sense unless it's political).
So now we're seeing political pressure from the FDA to approve the vaccine you're talking about right before the election. Without clinical trials, I have no confidence that the vaccine is safe and I'm hardly alone. You seem to trust your cult leader -- so be my guest and you can be one of the early guinea pigs.

SkiBirther, why do you think Trump's executive order calls for a payroll tax holiday? He (Trump) wants to make the payroll tax-cut permanent (although congress would have to approve). Don't you think you should get your head out of your ass? You are getting to that age where entitlements will be important.
Also, back to the original topic, how do you feel about giving free money to little black and brown babies? Is that a good idea? How can we be sure they were born here?
