Well said by @rickdugan
Fox News does this shit on a daily basis. Finding isolated negative stories and photos from Democrat-governed cities and making them front page stories. If they can link the stories to people like AOC or Harris then bonus points. Fox News viewers come to believe these issues are pervasive and representative... meanwhile they only capture like 0.0000001 % of what is going on in a city.

^ An exceedingly rare post from skibum I can partly agree with. A ballot in 17 languages seems a bit crazy. If you are going to vote in the US you should learn enough English to understand a ballot. Maybe Spanish as a second language at most. Other languages could have online instructions or guides if needed.

Notice how quickly Repubs try to shift discussion away from the plot by Trump and his loyalists to overturn the election results. They want to distract and keep the focus on the mob attack on the Capitol and make comparisons with other events like the Floyd riots.
Trump tried to steal the 2020 election.

The storming of the Capitol was a dark day in American history, but even darker was the plot behind the scenes to overturn the election:
- Trump's effort to coerce Mike Pence not to certify the election results
- Trump's effort to get the Justice Department to falsely announce it had found election fraud
- The fake electors plot intended to, on the false basis that there had been election fraud, replace electors certified by their states and re-cast their Electoral College votes for Trump
Forget about the mob on January 6. There was a real, insidious plot to overturn the 2020 election by Trump and his loyalists.

Good for them. I hope Trump and Vance are held accountable for their damaging lies.

Still whining about Facebook lol........ try to get over it
Actually, PT probably doesn't really care about whether Facebook censored misinformation or hate speech on it's platform. It's just part of the right wing narrative he has to promulgate daily across the many political discussion forums he posts in.

Here's what one newspaper in Mace's home state of South Carolina thought about her political stunt.
------------------------------------------------
Our View: Mace’s immigration bill borders on satire
City Paper Editorial Board
https://charlestoncitypaper.com/2024/09/20/our-view-maces-immigration-bill-borders-on-satire/
At first, we thought it was a satirical story in the Onion.
But then we looked again and realized it wasn’t a parody. Instead, the “Violence Against Women By Illegal Aliens Act” is an actual bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. And it is authored by our very own U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.

Looks like PT couldn't defend this bill on substance, only claim it's OK because Dems did a politically motivated bill too. And make a laughable comparison with the Senate immigration bill, which while one might argue was timed politically, has substantive provisions to improve border security.
Anyone else have an argument why Nancy Mace's bill was needed, when we already have laws on the books for this stuff ?

Politically motivated bills are a waste of everyone's time, if they don't also have an actual, tangible benefit or purpose.
The Senate immigration bill was widely hailed as one of the strongest border security bills in decades. It was supported by 18,000 Border Patrol agents who had opposed Biden’s border policies since day one, but who strongly supported this bill and urged Congress to quickly pass it.
But, Trump killed it to help him in the election. Instead, all we got from Republicans is this political stunt from Nancy Mace.

Except the Senate immigration bill wasn't purely political, it would have added more than 1,500 new Customs and Border Protection personnel, an additional 4,300 Asylum Officers, an additional 100 immigration judges, and the installation of 100 inspection machines to help detect fentanyl, among other provisions. Provisions that would have real impact on border security efforts.
As we all know, Trump got the Senate immigration bill squashed to help him in the election.
Mace's bill seems mostly if not entirely political.

Let's talk about this one. Why would this legislation be coming up 7 weeks before an election? And why is Mace pushing the focus on a subset of victims of violent crime - women ?
There seems to be one obvious answer: POLITICAL STUNT. A stunt to get headlines and influence low information voters, especially with a demographic that isn't doing too well with Trump - women.
If these illegal immigrant criminals (whose numbers btw are small) - were allowed to commit these crimes and roam freely, then the bill would make more sense. But there are already laws on the books for people who commit these crimes.
So why is this bill necessary, other than for political purposes ?

I agree Brazilians have the best mileage. We have a ton of them in NJ, they are mostly in the 30-40 range (some less, some more) and in decent shape. Wonderful, wonderful mileage.

Other political boards ?? I have no idea... or time. This is the only board I participate in for political discussion.
I can imagine it could be much worse on other sites. But TUSCL ain't great either. It's OK. There is a good collection of guys that bring good information and different perspectives to the discussions. I learn things from reading here and from the inevitable research needed to keep up with debates. But the quality of the discussion could be greatly improved without 1 or 2 often toxic participants.
@PT I'm glad you think it's paradise here..... I'm gonna file that one away for future use lol .

Here's an actual quote from JD Vance:
“We can debate one another. But we cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist and if he’s elected it is going to be the end of American democracy.”
But Trump has called Harris a fascist, and declared we won't have a country anymore if she is elected, many many times. JD Vance must know this.
So I guess my question is: Is Vance a hypocrite, or an idiot ?

I would love to see real efforts to reduce the deficit and get our taxation and spending more in balance.
Part of this needs to be higher taxation on the wealthy. What Buffett said years ago is even more true today: “There's class warfare, all right, but it's my class, the rich class, that's making war, and we're winning.” Just check the article below. Or look at Musk on his way to becoming a trillionaire. These guys keep increasing their piece of the pie. It's mind-boggling how Republicans go along with this.
Richest 1% bag nearly twice as much wealth as the rest of the world put together over the past two years

I'll let you guys in on a little secret. This election isn't just about keeping Trump out of the White House. It's also about ensuring far right wing idiocy doesn't gain more of a foothold in our country.

LOL you really do sit at your computer all day, waiting to post replies to every political thread. We can both go back in time and find all sorts of negative statements each side has made about the other. I'm just talking about today, in the aftermath of the second assassination attempt. And based on what each candidate said today, it's clear which one is the adult.
