when michael jackson first did the moonwalk in the 80's many people emulated it. yeah all right - kinda cool. if your kid did it in front of you no objections.
when the macarena was the craze during the 90's many people also emulated it that as well. if your kid did it you cringed and perhaps tolerated it.
