Ironically i actually may try to get tickets to bears vs Vikings for my dad's birthday.(you do know Vikings play bears on MNF October 31st). That is his birthday and he's a big Vikings fan but no Bridgewater it's gonna be tough for the vikes.
I've only been to one NFL game in my life (about 20 yrs ago) & I was sitting in the nosebleed section & couldn't follow the action (I was seating so high-up I was actually able to touch the blimp) - I rather watch the games at home or even the Tootsies sportsbar where they play the game soumd over the club's speakers in that section (they normally play the club music when not a game on)
the NFL is notoriously unpredictable, so you may be right. peterson is older now, so maybe he won't be the same this season. and if we aren't running the ball well, our offense tends to struggle.
but people need to keep in mind that bradford doesn't need to play at the level of aaron rodgers for us to win football games......he just needs to be a good QB. we have adrian peterson on our team and a top 5 defense.
point is.....bradford has (by far) his best support cast yet. i'm excited!!!! :-)
chulo.....i don't think you're alone in feeling that way
but me personally, i like going to games. you just can't beat the atmosphere of it. i've been to 3 games the Vikings we're playing in. the first was at minnesota vs the 9ers. the last two were at Fed-ex field vs. the redskins with a good friend of mine.
i don't know---its just the energy of it all that makes it so much better than watching at home IMO--- but i realize everyone doesn't feel that way---just my personal preference
I have watched the games at many places at home, at the stadium at, Tootsies and for my money, at least until the weather get cold and rainy nothing beats good seats at Giants stadium, in the Meadowlands as far as an experience watching football. But when the weather gets nasty I'd rather watch anywhere else.
I'm excited about the Giants this year, a healthy Cruz and Beckham Jr. will give Eli an amazing set of targets and if the defense holds together I expect a good run for this years Giant team. Go Big Blue !
The last NFL game I attended was to see Da Bears at Soldier Field. It was a cold December day, and the wind off Lake Michigan made me doubly miserable. I prefer watching the games at home where I am warm and comfortable and can occasionally have a stripper to help me enjoy the game.
We'll see chess, we will see how the season unfolds whether or not its wishful thinking. Keep in mind with those two receivers in play, the game if its close, is not over till the gun goes off. They could surprise everyone, I think it depends on Eli and his O-line if they gel, the defense will step up, just my opinion.
I go to see most of the Panther games. Have not spent much time with the schedule yet, but I will see most of them. I actually prefer college football to pro football, I just love the college atmosphere, but the NFL games are fun when your team is winning.
I'm curious to see what the Jags do this year. This will either be the year a developing team gels, or it stays bad.
Oakland is the other team that could be good or bad and is hard to predict.
As for the Vikings, they'll win some game and stay in the playoff huntil. But limping to the 6 seed in the playoffs and losing badly doesn't mean much in Minnesota.
The first NFL game I ever saw was the Giants vs Eagles pre-season at Princton University in either 1962 or '63. I had season tickets for The Patriots when they first moved to Foxboro but kids put an end to that. Now, I'm in my 70's and while the excitement of being there is great, I've seen all the games I'm ever going to see in the rain, snow, and cold.
The 60" TV at my condo's community center with 10 or 15 other guys fit my wants and wishes now.
I'm not watching a Browns game at this point, not even if you paid me. I am watching Packers and Jaguars game right now and the Patriots and Cardinals game later tonight.
As a kid I ushered Cowboy games at the Cotton Bowl. I was still a fan when they moved to Irving, TX even though I had to actually buy tickets at almost $10 a seat!. (Irving stadium had a big opening in the roof so Tom Landry could still wear his hat with his dress suit during games, not so Coach Landry could talk to God - God could get by without Coach Landry's advice on 14 Sunday afternoon's a year) I quit paying attention to NFL football for a few years when the ASS from Arkansas bought the Cowboys and rudely, crudely, with no class at all, fired the Coach. I don't often watch the Cowboys even now, but until recently, I watched one or two games a week. That's changing.
The 60s and 70s pro football leagues were composed of players who loved the game and coaches who were veterans of football, back when a player had to get a job to support himself so he could afford to play "professional" football. When that changed, later in the 70s, football became more violent and new players showed up on the fields with high priced attorneys, agents, managers and big salaries. The game became a mercenary gladiatorial contest - including the "kill shots" intending to permanently injure key opposing players.
Then - recently - the far left "progressives" began getting their say (a valid response to the intentional violence and ugly hits) and even "Pop Warner" football is "too" violent for left leaning mommies. Now the NFL is run from a corporate boardroom, on field actions are tested in polls, and test audience surveys, new rules attempt to make the game "less violent" and more "family friendly". Pro football is a high stakes big business where the games in the back room are more important than those on the field, and the games on the field are more like golf every year.
I am not yet ready to completely ignore NFL games, but I am close to being able to sit in a strip club with my back to the game on TV and not be at all curious about the score!
For me the game changed when they introduced the salary cap making it hard to have dynasties & keep multiple great players on one team - I see the salary cap sorta like socialism where most do pretty good but hardly anyone does great - pre salary-cap there were a few great teams that made for some epic games when they matched-up, these days I sorta see most teams as mediocre w/ a few that are pretty-good but still have weaknesses
I think another negative path the NFL has been going down is filling up too much of the tv programming every week.
There are now at least 5 viewing blocks (Thu, 3 Sun, and Mon). Most weeks there aren't more than 2 matchups worth looking forward to, plus 1 more for your favorite team. Too many bad games being aired.
Papi, I'm not a fan of the salary cap either. I'm not an avid sports guy and I haven't thought about all of the facets of it. But it seems to me that the salary cap is designed to benefit the owners and not the players or the fans. I, too, miss the dynasties. The caps appear to be un-American too me. It seems un-American to limit the growth of success of something. It kind of *is* like socialism, in the talking with young people who escaped from socialist countries, they all complained the socialism was a system with a tiny group of extremely rich people (gov't connections) while everyone else is equally poor. It seems at lot of the players make between the league minimum and 2X the league minimum. The caps seem to benefit the owners at the expense of dynasties. I say bring back the dynasties!
Dallas, thanks for the history writeup. It seems to me, and this is just my conjecture, that pro football (American) for a while now has replaced Boxing as the ticket out of the poor life for the poor kid as a ticket to make lots of money as an athlete, who may feel he has little other life options. It is probably no coincidence that football now carries with it the violence it does (when one makes the comparison with boxing). Personally, I miss the traditional blood sports (boxing, kickboxing, mixed martial arts). I'd rather see the money and talent focus more on boxing et al (like 50-100 years ago) where the violence makes sense. I also enjoy boxing, hence my enthusiasm.
I do not care for all of the back room corporate dealings in the NFL to rein in the violence and make it more family oriented. I think everyone with a hand in it (NFL corporate, owners, well-meaning (or not so well meaning) progressives, players, agents, lawyers, are all slowly (IMO) ruining the game as a result. Too much manipulation and regulation is often a bad thing. That is even before we consider the league's tax status as a non-profit. But I don't know enough to comment there.
I don't think the salary cap has really stopped teams from having dynasty's as much as expansion has sort of watered down the talent. Although I am not a fan of the New England Patriots there's a dynasty for you, BTW watching the Giant's-Cowboy game how about them Giants less than 10 minutes total possession in the first half and Cruz and Beckham have teamed up for some big plays GO BIG BLUE!
What an idiot - time running-out & the Cowboys WR stays inbounds instead of going out-of-bounds & time runs out when they could have kicked a makable game-winning FG - what an idiot
^ that flag on antonio brown in week one was terrible. i know the NFL is the no fun league, but they're really pushing it when they flag a guy for something like that
Falcons did the damn thing. Minus the one interception from Ryan, it was a near-perfect game on the offensive side. I'll grade this performance an "A".
Actually, the Lions have now won twice. :) Not to worry, they will lose again. I've never been to the new stadium, I'm afraid I will jinx it and we'll win again. LOL
undoubtedly i will be force fed some nfl football as i visit hong kong.especially during the afternoon and early evening. i just can't get excited about watching rich athletes on tv. football, soccer, basketball, baseball, nascar, f1, swimmer's, tennis, golfers and whatever. sorry.
Was at the Patriots stomping of the Bills in Buffalo today during the game someone threw a dildo on the field, that is how classy they are in Buffalo.. Had a great time over the border at Sundowner yesterday, review coming soon.
Its going to take a lot of lion generations to bring back those Long Haired Barbaries. And it will take even more lion generations to get ones that are all white, as that is a recessive gene.
Damn what ring with Minnesota? 3 losses in a row. Not looking like the team that started 5-0. now they look a team without their starting qb and their hall of fame rb and an average defense.
How about Dallas, in-spite of Jerry Jones' mishandlings they are 7-1 - although I don't think they are good as their record, they're kinda benefiting from a water-downed salary-capped league, IMO
Chulo...the Cowboys have drafted masterfully over the last 5-6 years and it's clearly paying off. Jerry Jones' mishandlings? Dude, he's been on a roll.

Those players were all drafted within the last 5-6 years. Chulo trippin'!
JJ has probably relinquished calling the shots on draft picks b/c in years past all their picks were shit - he was giving serious consideration to drafting Johnny Manzell and had to be talked out of it - Cowboys went from winning 3 SBs in 4 years to only one playoff win in 20, mostly b/c Jones wanted to be the man and did not want a strong coach in place that would not do what he wanted and how he wanted it
Detroit Lions grab first place in their division despite a bye week, both Green Bay and Minnesota lost it's been a tough year in the NFC North first time they are leading their division in over twenty years.
Does anybody remember the 5-0 Vikings a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile the only team to have beaten the Cowboys this year are my favorite The Giants, looking at the playoff picture the Giants are in a strong position to get the wildcard and if they get real hot and the Cowboys lose one game they have a shot at the #1 seed in their division.
vikings have obviously slipped since their hot start which seems like it was a long time ago. but because nobody in our division is doing much better.....we still have a chance!
gameday!
this week i'm looking forward to giants vs. steelers and the night game

Wishful thinking. Their D IS atrocious.

Chargers will suck.

Surprised Chargers are dominating a recently very good Chiefs team.

either way, i'm excited!!!!
vikings game is on guys :-)
If the Vikings go deep it will be on their defense. Easy to win games when you only have to score 15 points.
another tough test for us today.........on the road vs. the panthers.........this is probably our toughest test of the season. i can't wait though
which games ya'll watching today?
SJG
You like that?!?!
letssssss goo vikings

of course i am jealous. i have no talent.
