As 1/2 of a childless by choice couple I/we have a lot of free time so we both have a large number of pursuits outside of work. Mine in no particular order are Skiing, Poker, Golf, 420, Fine wine, Hiking, strip clubbing, swinging, gardening, running, weight lifting and non-poker gambling. What are yours?
Musician--I play the French horn in two different community concert bands, model railroading, and spending lots of time with my dogs--they really need it!
Dancer: So what are your hobbies?
Me: You mean, besides this?
All of my contemporaries (white collar, mid-50's) have some ridiculously expense hobby - a boat, golfing, collecting old cars, traveling with his wife (!), etc. If I hadn't found clubbing when I did, I'm sure I would be wasting my time & money on something equally frivolous.
skibum, you're most interesting one by far is 4-20. If I remember correctly, you said you're in your mid fifties. So the fact that you still smoke weed is surprising. I ain't criticizing you at all, don't get it twisted. I just imagine that the amount of people in your age range who still smoke weed is probably pretty low.
As for me
-Collecting Vikings memorbilla
- Traveling
- Working out
- Going to sporting events (Vikings games especially)
- Casual video gamer (action adventure games and sport mostly)
Reading, gardening, cooking, old vehicle restoration, metal sculpture, trainspotting (new hobby for which Club_Goer is to blame), Canadian military history research, travel, wine and beer drinking, genealogy (just starting to get interested in this).
I watch science fiction shows on tv. I occasionally surf the Internet. Outside of work, helping a relative, and strip clubs on the weekend, I have almost no other time. Yet for some stupid reason I let myself get talked into becoming President of my homeowners association and get to find out about all the gripes in my neighborhood. Fortunately, it's very small.
I also like to check on a few stocks and read a couple of market blogs and read financial news. Plus news on a conspiracy web site. I also spent money for shipping and handling for a free book on trading options which I haven't read yet.I thought taxes were more important priority wise right now.
Like Sharkhunter, I'm active in my condo's homeowner's association, golf (my handicap has been climbing 1 or 2 points a year since mid- 60's), YMCA 2-3 times per week to keep the heart ticking, occasional 420 (Go Viking - if you remember the 60's you weren't there) read mystery and political thriller novels, and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Battling through the slums of Shoalin, Consensual Rape, smoke Opium, Harass People, Crane Kick ROBs, Save Children from Alutard, In General Do Bad Things...
Genealogy taught me I have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great-grandparents... or 2^N ancestors, where N = number of generations. So if I go back 500 years, there are over 1 million ancestors who are having sex just to produce me. You're welcome, ancestors.
Writing and performing music, golf league, salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, exotic vintage sports cars, mushroom hunting, Morgan silver dollar collector... I love cooking but that's not really a hobby, gardening (I have grape vines, 2 large raspberry patches, various herbs, tomatoes, etc.)...
GOVIKINGS - I am 56 and except for a few occasions have been a 420 daily smoker since Labor day weekend 1973. I know a wide age range of folks with one every other week poker league of 19 people ranging in age from 19 - 62 and it seems to me that there are as many weed smokers in the 50 range and there is in the 20 range. Even guys in one of my games who are subject to unlimited random drug screens due to work still get baked during the game. Way of life for us 70's children, who unlike 60's children didn't do drugs to enlighten ourselves or expand our consciousness, just to get fucked up and screw. Wife is 54 and smokes too and yet we turned out to be an Attorney and a Medical Professional so go figure.
