I seriously don't get it. My friends and I use a binary scale, 1's and 0's, "would" or "would not". Where does the cut off lie? If a girl's a 3 and it's a no-go does a 4 make the cut?
Should use the "number of drinks" rating system. Number drinks it would take before you would sleep with her. If she is hot enough then the number might be negative - she would be the one who would have to have the drinks.
due, men can't use a binary 1 or 0, a would or would not. We would do any woman. It's just a matter of how much we want it.
So what's the cut off of the 1 to 10 scale? Well, I want a 7 or above. But if I hadn't had sex in 6 months, those 1's and 2's would be looking pretty good!
I agree with Dougster. Number of drinks, in colege we used to rate girls by number of beers it would take to bed them. (please note my picture) This is one of the many reasins I refrain from drinking at clubs.
Defining the scale just in terms of yes and no is too black and white for most people. Variety is the spice of life and there will always be shades of gray.
For example, there are a lot of 1s or 0s for you maybe, but the extent to which they're 1s always varies. How do you separate a truly exceptional 1 from just an average 1? Or even a below average 1 who barely makes the cutoff from 0?
There are lots of factors that go into the decision-making process that are harder to quantify than just 1/0, yes/no, black/white.
Not saying I approve of the 1-10 scale (beauty is in the eye of the beholder in my opinion), but it is at least universally understood.
For me the 1-10 rating system isn't about whether or not I'd sleep with them, it's purely my opinion of how they look. One man's 10 is another guys 8 etc.
A 5 with the most amazing personality and sense of humor in the world is still a 5. But I might go to bed with her and not with a 6.
Yup I went to colege best 7 years of my life and they'd even let me graditate. Never learned to type very well and this site has no spell check. I did not proof my last comment
As others have said, it is just a way to gauge how attractive she is.
Most of us want the most attractive woman possible, a 9 or 10, but often have to settle for what we can get (especially if one is not paying for it). So we use a 1-10 rating system to describe women’s attractiveness at different levels.
So we want a 9 or 10, and if we use a ‘1’ or ‘0’ binary system – the ‘1’ would be a 9 or 10, and the ‘0’ *not* a 9 or 10 – men using this binary system means the human race could possibly come to an end b/c very few would be getting laid/engaging-in-intercourse.
The rating system is more for facial attractiveness than for body (hence the WTH ratio). Facial symmetry is measured in a 1-10 scale, but the majority of people are seven or above; very few people are below seven or above nine. I can't say my # in here (I consulted with experts on the subject), so PM me for that.
I just think that attractiveness is so so so so subjective that it's kind of weird to assign women numbers that would imply the existence of a universal standard of beauty. Like, say you hooked up with a girl that you thought was an 8 but all of your friends thought she was a 5. It seems to me that things would be more like "I would pay to sleep with this girl" or "This girl would have to pay me to sleep with her."
@motorhead - well, now that you mention it ... <.<
A "1-10" rating system would also work when talking about the IQs of the various idiots on this board. No need for any scaling either. The number would just be their IQ. E.g. txtittyfan's IQ is a 4. RickyBoyDugan, OTOH, is much smarter his IQ is closer to 8. HomoAntonio just a 1 or a 2.
I'm with those, above, that don't care for a numeric rating system. I prefer to describe another women in words and be satisfied that I like her appearance and personality.
It may imply that, but it doesn't mean that. Like I said it's different for everybody which is why some people see 10's everywhere and I rarely see anything higher than an 8.
Jestie: "which is why some people see 10's everywhere and I rarely see anything higher than an 8."
That is your passive-aggressive (aka negativistic) personality disorder at play. You are determined to are the worst in everything. The world is a bleak terrible place. It is easy for you to find faults in any an all things. Hence, the 10 becomes the 8, and I'm sure if you added it all up you would come to mathematically impossible conclusion that (in your view) more than half the world is below average in terms of looks, intelligence, you name it.
The 1 to 10 scale is well understood by many men. A ten is often seen as perfection and stunningly pretty.
A 5 is like an average girl. A 6 is slightly above average. I see a lot of average looking dancers and sometimes I see dancers I would rate a 4 or less. I think the average woman on the street looks better than a 4.
For some, white versus black are all the choices they see. For others they see millions of different shades and hues like a rainbow. the one to ten scale works for me.
My main problem with the 1-10 scale and its implication of being universally understood is that it doesn't account for specific attributes (ie racial ones). Say, a guy who likes model-pretty european features on a dark-skinned girl with a big ass (their 9) would find another man's ideal (spinner type, caucasian girl-next door) sort of repulsive.
OR MAYBE I'M THINKING ABOUT IT TOO MUCH. IMO, Cillian Murphy is perfect and every other man is lacking, Maybe that's how y'all feel about Kate Upton.
I don't thing the 1-10 scale is universal. Each man has his own 1-10 rating, and so one man's 9 could be another man's 6. Some guys like big tits, another big ass, another petite with small boobs. For me, Kate Upton is a 10.
I just realized by looking at her pic that Duo is a girl...and is young and is pretty in the face. I wonder how a young chick feels dancing a guy near her age (LOVE being young).
Duh, everything is relative. My 10 isn't going to be your 10. Otherwise we might rip a hole in that time-space continuum thing. We don't want gravity accidentally reversing itself.
Obviously everyone's ratings scales are different. Hell my rating scale at 8pm is VERY different from my rating scale at 1:45am and I don't drink. It's just as the night wears on, someone I'd have turned away earlier looks mighty good when the 8s and 9s have gone home already!
Positives:
1. Soft, smooth skin.
2. Toned but not ripped.
3. Hips measurement about 1.5 waist.
4. Breast with the tone of Kate Upton's, the bigger the better as long as the tone is good.
5. Smiles a lot.
6. Big eyes.
7. Nice, low-maintenance hair, preferably butt length.
8. Full lips.
9. No visible missing teeth.
A few women's looks are seriously degraded by "oddness". Like eyes too far apart. Or women with 36" hips but the legs of a 10 year old.
That's interesting you should mention that, I've always preferred "oddness". I like people with eyes that are a little too far apart, like Amanda Seyfried.
@duo yeah I would have to say some women to me look distinctive, and I can't really explain how that's different from odd. I think (the porn star) Luscious Lopez has a very attractive and distinctive face with her prominent nose. Whenever a dancer starts telling me she needs a nose job, I just say "no way, bonus boob".
@duomax girl, if that is a picture of you it appears you are way too young to know about a 1979 movie by Blake Edwards named "10". Look it up on Wikipedia but you probably don't need to actually watch a 34 year old movie if you read the Wikipedia info.
Can't believe no one has yet referenced the movie which is often credited with making numerical references to a woman's beauty with the 1-10 rating system mainstream. There has been some good discussion above but I believe if you consider the movie it may bring everything into perspective for you.
And like others have stated, one man's 10 is another man's 7. I visited a club and met a dancer scored a 10 by a previous reviewer and while very hot I would have only gone as high as a 9 for her and much of that was based upon her personality, attitude, and great lap dances. To each his own.
But I appreciate your statement of a woman's view of 1 or 0, "would" or "wouldn't" do him. Maybe we men should start asking dancers if we are a 0 or a 1? Although I suspect most women see more 0s than 1s, whereas I see many more 1s than 0s. And every one of the 0s will remain 0s, but all the 1s fall into the ol' 1-10 system.
Keep posting girl. I've enjoyed your contributions. And if you are the beauty in your avatar pic, then it looks to me like you would rate very high on the 1-10 scale. Just hard to figure out how high based upon a profile pic while wearing a pointed cap.
I think most guys get it that one person's 10 may not be a 10 to someone else. It's like anything else, some people will be arrogant and think their opinions or tastes are somehow more correct.
To me there's 4 basic values and the other 6 are variations on the theme. A 10 is beauty incarnate. Perfect in every way. Maybe the top 1%. A 1 is the polar opposite. Hideously ugly with no redeeming value. A 5 is truly "close but no cigar. " Almost doable. And the 6 is a girl that meets minimum requirements. Makes you say "I'd hit it!" The other 6 values are just shades between 6 - 10 or 1 - 5.
There is no contradiction. duomaxwell says "My friends and I use a binary scale, 1's and 0'". Guys use a 1/10 scale. In binary "1" is 1 and "10" is 2. So the only difference is where you start counting, 0 or 1.

The 1 - 10 scale is secondary in my decision. My choice is based on "other" factors, Alcohol NOT being one of them.

She will fuck me = 10
She will only suck me = 9
She will only do a hand job = 8
No Action = 1
You probably think all Little Leaguers should get trophies too
Binary numbers:
0=0
1=1
2=10
3=11
4=100
5=101
6=110
7=111
8=1000
9=1001
10=1010

Duo – we have been using this system for millions of years and it’s still in place – so it must work – at least for us

Watch the Big 10 Tournament in Chicago on ESPN and take note of sideline reporter Samantha Ponder.
Pretty much a 10 in my book - and that's in clothes.
However, unlike the Mexicans who were the subject of the similarly titled movie, the retard was far less missed. ;)
Though you do raise another point, a clothed 9 might be a 7 naked.

as for the OP... a highly nonlinear equation is involve. Although, looks, personality, and some level of chemistry are the dominant parameters.
