That would lead to a SCOTUS case over whether Trump was bypassing the Constitutional requirements for advice and consent of the Senate. Given their Presidential immunity decision, SCOTUS might well say those requirements can only be enforced through the Impeachment process. There are enough hard MAGA Senators to block Trump's removal through Impeachment, so then we'd be through the looking glass. The Presidency is primarily a trophy to Trump. He's got his trophy, and he's made the Federal prosecutions go away. Hard to be sure what, if anything, he wants beyond that.
