Why I voted for Kamala Harris but wanted her to lose

Owlyoung_ggofv
Southern Libertine

I couldn't think of a decent title, so I just stuck with the facts. I decided to vote Blue this election. I am 90% Democrat on most issues. It doesn't matter because both my home state and current state are both blood red. I have always found that ironic, that someone with liberal values typically gets employed in predominantly Red counties. They should do research papers on this phenomenon. I believed Kamala was best for the country despite any personal misgivings I had.

Here's the deal: I am really tired on the educated black woman trope. Notice I said "trope" and not persons. All my life I have dealt with women (white and black) who have been preachy towards me. I acknowledge some of the criticism was warranted, but a lot of it was contradicted when I finally started working. There are a few complaints I could make, but the last thing I need is to be labeled incel, when that's not true at all. Incel is a derogatory term that has lost all original meaning. A man's ability to attain sex does not mean they are socially intelligent or even a well adjusted individual outside sexual encounters.

I am pointing out that many women talk down to men or belittle men who don't share their world view. Even when you propose viable counter arguments to their beliefs, you are treated poorly because you don't confirm the "modern idealization" of what a man should be. This happens more often with liberal white women than conservative women in my experience.

Its okay to be challenged, but be respectful. Don't speak to me as a child when I have worked to get to where I am and faced challenges on my own. Many of these women have family or relationships to fall back on and not take accountability. I don't have that option.

I will admit I have concerns about Trump, namely the new Government Efficiency counsel under Elon Musk. It's understandable to want to hold government accountable for spending, but that requires you actually know where the money goes. Cutting spending doesn't magically make systems work efficiently and cheaply.
You are going to make some sectors operate worse because they barely received much funding to begin with.

Government is NOT A BUSINESS, sometimes positions are created to deal with problems that don't bear fruit until later. A private company may choose to just ignore the problem to save money. And often decisions are made months in advance before final orders can be given.

I have a job in the defense industry, and my main concern is that Elon Musk will just cut programs that have nothing to do with corruption in DC.

Tax cuts are great if you are making over $150, 000 a year for your family. I don't make that much per year. What I get back, even during Trump's first term, is basically just one mortgage payment. That's the main reason I see no reason to vote Trump.

The OP finds it odd that someone with liberal values ends up in a Red State? I have Red State values and am not only stuck in a blue state, but I am also in the bluest area, of maybe the bluest state in the country. Iget to see first and how progressive government works and as a result would almost prefer Putin as President over Kamala Harris. The latest example of Progressive Government as run by Boston's Progressibe Mayor Michell "shame on" Wu. Thestate delivers hundreds and hundreds of thousands ballots to the Boston election committee. All they need do is get them to polling places. What happens? Multiple spots in Boston run out of ballots because they weren't delivered properly. Calls flood into the Secretary of State's Office to complain. They call the Boston Election Committee in the middle of election day: No one answers the phone. The Secretary of State t han has to send someone physically down to the office with the police to pick up and deliver the ballots.

@skibum - Same situation here. Hard right conservative living in NJ. And my district is known as THE bluest district in blue NJ. My town is a little suburb where you'll find all political persuasions, but the district includes Newark, so Red votes don't mean shit.

That dude had NOTHING. There's just nothing there. Jersey came pretty close this cycle, it ain't all in yet but right now it's within 4 which is probably the closest it's been in decades back when NJ was still solid red state. 2028 the GOP candidate better put some time in there.

@Icey, I actually thought you would be my biggest detractor. To be fair, I agree with Democrats more often than Republicans. But even as a liberal, I have to admit that the Left has gone way too far in the Identity politics. All politicians use it but it has to tempered with current needs.

The only question now is whether Trump's tariffs will actually help the economy or hurt it. And I am banking on hurt. You can't just slap high tariffs on imported goods without an infrastructure that can absorb the costs. We simply don't manufacture enough to cover domestic demands. Every Economists, and Elon Musk himself says it's going hurt before it gets better.

Owlyoung_ggofv both parties are two sides of the same coin. Identity politics are a form of oppression I think. Like lets ignore crumbling infrastructure, bad drinking water, unfettered profiteering, food insecurity, housing insecurity.... Instead lets argue about what pronoun you can use. Lets ignore universal healthcare and instead talk about who can buy an abortion and how we feel about it. It creates the delusion of freedom and progress when its just a sideshow to keep us distracted from society falling apart around us.

Tariffs on imports are good in theory. The point us to make outsourcing production not as profitable as producing things domestically. The problem is we don't have the infrastructure for that. And the high prices consumers end up paying mean higher sales tax revenue for the government.

    I'm stunned,

Ukraine is fucked. Taiwan is fucked. Palestine is fucked. Labor rights or things like minimum wage or basic things like sick leave will be eliminated. Climate change will continue and future generations will be living on a burnt broken planet. Women and minority rights will be gutted taking us back to the 1960 or even 1920s. Musk and Thiel will mess with the economy turning it cryptocurrency experiment.

The only shitty lining is that those that voted for this will feel the effects. It will be unbelievably painful and cruel. People will lose entire friendships and if mass deportations do occur inflation will skyrocket.

@Icey - Thanks for the protest vote in a swing state. We owe you one.

@OP - According to exit polls, black and Latino men have gone from Trump more than for any Republican in decades. Trump may have even won Latino men outright. But you nailed it with men don't like being hectored and browbeaten, and no one likes being called a racist and sexist for not voting for their preferred candidate.

Walz's beta-male, soyboy, submissive parody of masculinity backfired like an old Chevy. The ads about guys who eat carburetors for lunch but are secure enough in their masculinity to vote for a woman, struck exactly the wrong, preachy note.

@Nixur68, I wanted Kamala to win because she doesn't care about porn or strip clubs. That was the cherry on top of more serious reasons why I wanted her in power.

With Trump in office, I'm actually concerned. But I also realize that many people working in the adult industry support Trump so it's their fault should things go bad. I honestly don't think Trump cares about the sex industry, as in trying to get rid of it. It's his Evangelical base that wants that, but they are more tied into banning abortion and removing Transgender ideology (because those actually are government regulated versus fighting hundreds of private businesses).

I actually think strip clubs could evolve into privatized "members only" establishments, but that's a discussion topic for another time *wink*

@StripClubXpert, it isn't so much that I wanted her (the person) to lose as much as I wanted the far left ideology to fail.

Icey and Puddy Tat both states facts. The far left man hating has got to end. These people live in idealistic fantasy settings where men just do whatever women want, but still have the machismo when it's convenient for women. That's not real life. That only in fabricated settings like private schools or colleges. In the real world you have to make it with your own efforts and nobody going to save you because of a "micro aggression". These leftists live very sheltered lives. They hate when you call them out on it because it exposes that they really don't understand the real world.

@Owl sounds like you're a black piller. So, reading the posts on TUSCL, you've concluded that men never, ever, ever have self-important, unrealistic expectations that women will cater to them? We all want what we want. What varies is how entitled people are about it. My impression is that entitlement is stronger among men than among women. But, ultimately, it's an individual thing. In a free society people are entitled to feel entitled. And people are entitled to not hang with people they think feel too entitled. That is, you deal with the problem as you choose, and don't expect others to change to accommodate you. But, you're entitled to disagree with me.

Dream on Icee. If Trump can keep his ego in check (a big if) the next 4 years this could set the stage for Republican control the next 20 to 30 years. The Democrats have a lot of soul searching to do. If they want to remain relevant they can’t continue to pander to the extreme progressive wing of the party.

America has spoken. We don’t appointed candidates based solely on DEI. We don’t want men competing against women in sports. We don’t want candidates who support the Marxist BLM burning and looting cities. We don’t want to pay back the loans of college kids who make poor life choices.

Trump ran in 2024 like Biden ran in 2020. He's created expectations that are probably impossible to satisfy. Two possibilities:
    1) His approval rating will drop below 40% because prices don't drop by 20%. I don't see how he can possibly manage that.
    2) He gets credit for the private sector bouncing back from COVID, which it already mostly has. But, that assumes he will move cautiously with the deportations and the tariffs. If he causes a lot of businesses to go bankrupt, and/or starts an inflationary or deflationary spiral, those are bells that can't be unrung. Then he'll have to maintain power through intimidation and unchecked executive power. There is no visible group like the Nazi Brownshirts backing him. But this thing where thousands of black people got threatening text messages is scary. Hopefully it's just a few kooks who managed to pull that off. But, if there's an underground neo-Klan standing back and standing by, then like Steve Bannon said, it's gonna be wild.

The left news media loves to blame all of the world's problems on Evangelicals. Funny how the left loves to call President Trump Hitler and then the left proceeds to use the Nazi playbook. It doesn't matter if they are blaming Jews or Evangelicals, anytime you hear all of the problems being blamed on a religious group warning bells should go off. The real Hitler tried that. It was not good for the world. Politicians love to do that because it takes the attention away from their own shortcomings.

We are we even dating favorability polls from weeks ago? Vance and his party won the only poll that matters on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Americans voted in overwhelming numbers for Donald J. Trump, J.D. Vance, and Republican candidates across both chambers of congress. Americans voted for a Republican in the White House, Republican control of the Senate, and we have very nearly won control of the House of Representatives. We already have control of the Supreme Court. Republicans won a free and fair election, would any democrat or liberal care to contest the election?

"Nobody cares about the 2020 riots."

People care about law and order, of which that was one manifestation. Trump was favored on this issue. It's also tangentially related to the Democrats' constant playing of the race and gender card.

"Whereas democracy (of which January 6 and Trump's attempted coup were relevant factors) was in the top 3 issues."

...but democracy means different things to either side.
For Democrats, it meant preventing Trump from becoming an autocrat, Jan 6, his potential mass firing of government employees and replacing them with loyalists.
To Republicans, it meant preserving the filibuster, preventing packing of the court, and stopping the blatant lawfare campaign against Trump. So both can say it's a priority but it not be a clear winning issue for either side.
At very least, one can point to Harris' late pivot to Trump fear and slipping even further behind in the polls.

"A martyr complex is one of the key teners of Trump "believers" it dictates their faux messianic message"

When Hillary lost in 2016, during her concession speech, she (and Bill) wore Purple and Black. When Harris gave her Concession yak she wore purple and black. These ARE the colors of a Martyr.

To add: On election Day, Dr Jill work RED (in your FACE Harris). Colors matter (in more ways then one) for the Democrat Machine.

The Dem Blame Game is in full force; a circle firing squad with automatic weapons of war. Capo Pelosi, who is 100% involved with all Dem Machine ops, is blaming others. It wasn't one, it was The Machine that failed. They can't see why they lost. Their superiority complex and egos won't allow them to accept they fucked up as a whole.

Harris said Fight like 30 times during here concession. What hasn't she plagiarized from from Trump? Harry Caufield would call her a Phony.

"This stain on Trump will never be forgotten, it will be part of Trump's legacy."

80M+ know it was ginned up. The Dem Star Chamber didn't provide all evidence and after the GOP took over Congress, terabytes of data that were to be archived were destroyed. Pelosi herself said on video she takes a lot of blame for it the riot and lack of security. Cops in the WH escorted people around. People were prosecuted for unlawful entry and as they didn't go thru the metal detectors (I know some who was charged and convicted of this specifically - 6 months home arrest and $100K for a misdemeanor). The only person killed was unarmed Ashi Babbitt by a DC cop captain that had a checkered history including leaving his 9mm in a bathroom.

What happened on 6-Jan is not "National Security". Somehow, all the data collected regarding 6-Jan needs to be fully released. That is how Democracy must work.

Also, in 2020 Biden had like 83M votes and Trump 75M; 160M total. Today, Harris has 70M and Trump 74M; 144M. The 144M is more in-line with previous POTUS election cycles plus a LOT of new voters were registered by both parties. Where'd the other 16M votes go? And it wasn't because people were trapped at home in 2020.

wld4testes is repeating the same talking points over and over, practically quoting Nancy Pelosi. That's how sad and out of ideas he is (actually always has been).

The "stain" of two impeachments and January 6 riots are all on the democrat party. The House seated in 2018 (and the democrat caucus seated in 2016) will forever be remembered as a bitterly partisan, leftist radical assembly who wasted millions of dollars in taxpayer money on false investigations, doctored dossiers, partisan "whistleblowers" (in fact, false witnesses), all in effort to try and undo the results of a lawful election. They proved that the DC swamp is a club reserved for beltway insiders only, and outsiders who gain entry will hounded and harassed until they leave. On January 6th, democrats showed that they only care about rioters when it is their workplace being looted. Hundreds of businesses lost and lives ruined along with dozens of lives needlessly lost as the democrat party fomented violence across our country for two years, but heaven forbid that should be visited upon them for a change. Why would they bail out and forbid prosecution against rioters in MO, MN, and elsewhere, but turn the whole of their internal security apparatus against our fellow citizens in the Jan 6th witchhunt? Retribution and vengeance. Tyrannical and malicious prosecution to show that they have unequal protection and greater preservation of rights than the common voter. If this does not concern you, then you really do not understand what America is or should be.
  • wld4tatas
^ You've been caught lying and deflecting multiple times here, and you still continue.

Rioters were prosecuted in MN. And those who stormed the Capital on January 6 and caused damage and death should be prosecuted too. This is not controversial.

Jack Smith's cases against Trump are legit and appropriate, and it's a shame that justice will not be served now that he is looking to wind them down. Hunter Biden was also targeted by House Republicans and ultimately prosecuted by the DOJ, so claims of unequal treatment at the federal level are bogus.

It's a fair criticism to say the NY cases against Trump were politically motivated. Those involved an overzealous state AG and DA and were not driven by Biden or the federal government. We know it's a right wing talking point that the entire Dem party is engaged in lawfare, but it's not supported by the facts.

Jack Smith is a hack. Justice would be served by him being indicted for prosecutorial misconduct. Hunter Biden has received preferential treatment. Fact.

No one, except partisan libs, argues against the lawfare waged against Trump. Dems would do well to remember that also caused many people to support Trump that otherwise would not have.

It's not anything unusual that law enforcement prioritizes cases that draw press attention. It isn't just Trump, the Clintons and John Gotti are also examples. Hopefully Trump's conviction will be thrown out on appeal because the relevant law erodes due process rights. How can your misdemeanor be, beyond a reasonable doubt, in furtherance of another crime, when you weren't convicted of that other crime? But, it's not really a prosecutor's responsibility to decide issues like that.

But the thing is - I am rich - I work for a bank. I'm just a normal white dude and I'll probably just end up making even more money at the expense of the poor.

The fear mongers on here need to stop spreading the false narrative that Trump is going to ban porn and shut down strip clubs.

Trump has disavowed project 2025 a million times over

You hate the bad orange man. I get it. But just stop the lies

    Trump won. Harris lost.
    Republicans won. Democrats last.
    America won. Liberals lost.

The moderators can close this thread. It's gotten out of hand. I normally let these die naturally but it's beginning to turn toxic.

Look guys, I am not happy result but I'm trying to move on. That's all anyone can do.

My biggest fear is that Trump will allow his Evangelical wing to blatantly break constitutional freedoms we have (porn and strippers are one of them). But as many have pointed out, strip clubs have always been a STATE issue, not a federal one.

As for porn, I don't think it's possible to outright ban it. The reality is that age verification software is the only legal mechanism to restrict it and that's easily destroyed with VPNs, torrents, non regional porn (hentai is completely unaffected), etc..

^ Every political thread turns toxic here, dude.

Porn is ruled to be protected under 1A. All this shit about it and strip clubs being banned is stupid, factless paranoia.

@ Puddy Tat, I have mixed opinions on that, but we can agree to disagree.

Never underestimate how strong ideological fanaticism can become, left or right. Personally, I think the extreme branches of both sides are just being played by the Government as a whole.

Think about, cater to your fringe base, get votes, scare the opposition to compromise, then don't deliver on any actual promises, create an "other" to blame for lack of progress, repeat. Every political party does this to varying degrees of effect.

See, even liberals can think logically.

^ Banning porn is way the fuck down any side's just of priorities. Doesn't even rate to Republican voters. You think it could ever get 60 votes in the Senate? I doubt it would get 5. Trump distanced himself from it, it's only stupid Democratic paranoia that keeps that brainbug alive.

The religious right hasn't been a force in Republican politics for decades.

If Dems really believed Trump was Hitler, they wouldn't be conceding the election so easily and definitely not ensuring an orderly transition. Puts the lie to everything they have said.

They wont go after porn. Theyll go after companies that make porn. Theyll attack sex. Theyre already attacking womens bodily autonomy. Attacking trans rights. It wont stop. Its Republican identity politics. The fight against civil rights and social justice will be used as a cover for policy ineptitude.

His core base are bigots and those who view politics as a visceral act. And thats dangerous to civil society

@ Puddy Tat, I am well aware of the First Amendment. But the fact of the matter is, Trump has control of this current Supreme Court bench.

I don't think a porn ban will happen, simply because it's too much of hassle and enforcing it is borderline impossible without nationalizing Internet servers (another Constitutional impossibility). I also know that the judges, as much as they like Trump, need to keep some level of strict construction in their rulings.

@ Puddy Tat, the religious right is not as powerful as say 1960, but they have power. 14 states have age restrictions on porn viewing, to point where pornhub and xhamster said "Adios" and don't even bother with those states.

You also have to consider states like Louisiana putting 10 commandments in public school systems. So it's not that they don't have power, but they just use it for specific purposes.

^ Trump has control over the bench but unlike Roe, the decision that porn is protected under 1A isn't on shaky constitutional grounds.

Age restrictions are a different matter. More like they've chosen to enforce them.

I offered @dustyj a $10,000 bet that Trump will not make porn and strip clubs illegal. He's disappeared. Probably because, like Harris and her campaign going "hurr durr fAsCiSt" then offering a seamless transition, he doesn't really mean what he said.

@ Puddy Tat, I agree. To be honest, this entire country is for a rude awakening if porn is banned. Even if you despise porn, it's the fact that free speech is truly dead. It would not just stop at porn.

Where do you club Puddy Tat, are you in the Southeast US? Asking because I'm always looking for different clubs.

^ I live in the Boston area, though when I visit my good friend in Atlanta, we spend a lot of time clubbing.

I worry about porn being banned about as much as I worry about a large asteroid hitting the earth. 1A includes porn. Supreme Court won't overturn it.

^ Most of my clubbing is in Providence though, and I don't travel much for work. I used to and could report back from other cities or countries.

Atlanta has taken a step back but you can get $5-10 dances at the right place. Worlds better than here.
