Did we fuck this site up by making trolls have to write reviews to post?

Or am I way off base and the site is better than it's ever been?

There is a new generation of trolls for sure. Of course like always, founder could banish them with the stroke of a key, but he doesn’t. So, the ecosystem changed, new trolls have evolved to fill this niche, and without the hand of god to sort them out, we are in troll hell. Better? Probably only different.

Maybe it’s just me but at least 75% of the parody accounts were hilarious, so much so you didn’t mind the other 25% that failed at being funny.

One of the greatest lines on TUSCL ever was when apooodeep was talking about how he loved to squirt his mayo on buns while working at Subway. Mamisan running over SJGs Huffy bike with her minivan. Rick Dugan coaxing nicespice into an Olive Garden with the promise of unlimited breadsticks.

@shailynn, I'd flip that to 25% funny, 75% failed. Actually, take the under on that.

Most of them repeat the same lame joke over and over.

Some of trolls seem to have been upgraded to reviewers. I stopped doing reviews after rejection for being a shill. C'mon. Reviewers are great but do your homework or at least let the trolls post so we have some humor!

Icee the thread wasn’t asking thoughts on reviews being fake.

I might have this wrong but, based on what others have said, new users can't post anything until they publish a review, publish an article, get verified (I think), or pay for VIP.

Because founder also now allows non-VIPs to look at a small number of reviews per day, it's possible for anyone to spackle together a "new" review from bits and pieces of other reviews. It doesn't help that some guys here up-vote every single review.

So, yeah, it's not great but also not surprising. I think that founder should not let non-VIPs see any reviews (but I'm not sure how much of a road block that would be).

As always, I advocate for light moderation and the two-way block being restored, but I know that falls on deaf ears.

I would consider a troll to be someone insulting someone in order to intentionally hurt them. Someone being funny or trying to be funny would not be a troll to me. The comedian Don Rickles explained the difference one time. He said if he made fun of an audience member, it wouldn't be about something they were likely sensitive about. For example, he would start making jokes about how ugly the tie a fat man was wearing was rather than making jokes about how fat he was.

You don’t get VIP for discussion board only for club reviews and articles. But there are some discussion topics brought up that are quite trivial. I’m willing to sort through it all because there is valuable information available for those willing and able to take the time to do so. I feel papa and dolfan always provide quality information. I suspect the definition(s) of ‘fuck this site up’ will vary widely and include some who say the site is and was never fucked up and some who say the site is and has always been fucked up. Indeed, I think the people who say the site was not fucked up before but is fucked up now, are a tiny minority.

On the ‘what is a troll’ tangent I would add the time wasters. The posters who keep threads going with seemingly relevant but imbecilic questions or bring old threads back from the dead without a good reason. I put those idiots on ignore as soon as I can.

Hey money I think paying the monthly fee grants a member freedom to post. For those who prefer they waive the fee If you write and review Or an article. After it has been approved by the board you are able to access the site for 4 weeks.

After the 4 weeks end you can do the same thing. Important to note you won’t be able to renew your membership until the 4 weeks have passed. You can however have post as little or as much as you want during your membership.

Just FYI, you don't have to write reviews to post. You only need to be verified.

Also, if you have just one review or article published, you can post forever.

You can't get VIP credit for a review of the same club within 4 weeks, but you can write for another club in that period and get credit. 2 reviews for 2 different clubs and get 8 weeks of VIP credit works just fine, for example. I only mention it because I don't want people to sit on a review for a month trying to stretch out their VIP time.

I returned today after taking a mental health break from all things sex work related to find that the discussion forums have been, surprisingly, on topic as of recent. Perhaps the trolls finally grew up (or gave up).
