What Do You Still Use Cash For?

I almost never use cash anymore outside of strip clubs. The main thing I use cash for other than strip clubs are a few odd things like vending machines, the farmer market, or if I want a quick Sincweiser at a bar since tabs sometimes require a minimum billing amount like $10. I strictly use credit cards for 95% of my purchases nowadays. There are several advantages. (1) Credit cards give rewards like free flights, free hotel nights, cash back, etc. (2) It is quicker to swipe a card then count out money. (3) I save time not having to keep going to banks or ATM's to replenish cash. (4) The wallet is alot thinner with a couple credit cards versus wads of cash. What things do you guys buy with cash?

I still tip in cash even if I put the tab on the card. That way I know the server is getting what I left for them. Other than that, I rarely carry cash.

Strip clubs, sugar babies, OTC dates with strippers. Yeah, going to an ATM used to be a regular task. Now, I only go to one when I'm getting ready to monger.

I use cash for strip clubs most everywhere else I use a credit card with a cash back feature, never use a debit card ever, and pat the bill in full on the due date.

For w/e reason if it's under $10 I tend to pay cash even if it's past the min purchase requirement of some businesses

For purchases under $20 I normally pay in cash. I write a few checks for places that give a discount for not using credit cards. My dentist gives a 5% discount and I got a 5% discount on my new home heating/cooling system. I also did not finance my 2018 Mustang GT or my present home.

Similar to you sinclair. Sex industry purchases, cash businesses like the farmer's market, I'm just buying something like a package of chips and a water, very little otherwise. My credit card gets me 2%-4% cash back, doesn't seem to be any advantage to use cash.

I'm using CashApp for SBs. Use cash only for occasional strip club runs--and that's it.

Pretty much everything. I like the feel of it. I also like to pay for things up front. If I can't afford it I don't buy it. I don't believe in being a slave to credit. I also resent the way banks trace our actions.

Clubs and P4P sex account for the bulk of my cash uses but there are a few others. - Discounts for cash payment at places like the dry cleaner or a couple of local gas stations. Also places like auction houses and other small businesses that charge a 5-10% fee for credit card transactions. - Tips at restaraunts/bars etc so I can make sure the person I want to tip actually gets it instead of the business taking a cut. Plus it gives them instantly available funds that can really make a difference to many of the people that work in the jobs. - Cash only businesses such as farmers markets, one local nightclub, a couple of local food trucks and my addiction to flea markets. - The neighborhood kid that cuts the grass and shovels the driveway for me.

"... Tips at restaraunts/bars etc so I can make sure the person I want to tip actually gets it ..." I was told once that it's better to tip cash so there is no paper-trail - thus when it comes time for them to do their taxes they can claim they made less than they really did and get a bigger refund.

The human behavior behind the tactile feeling of paying In cash actually makes you conscious of what you are paying, therefore those who tend to pay in cash also tend to stay within their budget. If you use credit there is an almost 99% chance you’ll spend more because of the convenience. It depends on your priority, but if you like the convenience of using credit card, it will cost you more, simply due to human behaviors.

Lot of stuff: gambling at the casino, antiquing, dollar slices, splitting checks at restaurants, paying the cart girl on the golf course, tips, buying lemonade from the kids’ stand, Girl Scout cookies, toll roads, bratwurst or bbq beef from the trailer in the grocery store parking lot, lotto scratchers and pull tabs, concessions at sporting events, mrs freshley’s and Dr Pepper from the machine, drinks at the bar.

I haven't carried cash for years. I would say right now I have maybe $7 or in my wallet. A habit I got into many years ago due to my work. Just kept it that way when I retired. I'd hit an ATM to go to the clubs.

I’m with you The only places I use cash are strip Club and barber shop To me, a debit card is safer. If you lose cash, it can’t be traced. You can put a hold on credit card and even get money back that was used by thieves

I recently picked up a RX at my regular pharmacy. My co pay was 19 cents. If I not had any cash on me, I would have had to put it on a credit card. It was bad enough that I only had 2 $20 bills with me.

Public transportation as a visitor. Some hotels are cash only, surprisingly. Restaurants and gas stations that charge a fee for cards.

If you want to buy weed in a legal dispensary, you have to use cash. At least in Oregon you do.

I obviously use cash for a lot of things 😝 I think though that even if I had a “real job” I’d still rather use cash for restarants tho. It’s nice being able to throw down enough cash for the bill and tip and walk out immediately, as opposed to waiting for the ticket back for signature and tip. It’s a minor thing but yeah.

Going off of nicespice comment about cash for weed in Oregon. It is the same in Colorado and probably all other states where marijuana is legal. I do know someone who is a bank examiner and the info I got about that is that banking laws do not allow a Marijuana based business to have a bank account because weed is still against federal law. When the federal laws change that will likely change.

i use strictly cash for everything..and i'm proud of it check out what i gotta say about it: started about a decade or so ago--started using cash to get myself outta credit card debt. then i quickly fell in love with it. now i rarely use credit cards. use cash everywhere i go. and call me a lame weirdo, but i also keep a change purse (of sorts) attached on my keychain. and i now pick up loose coins wherever and whenever i see 'em in the street. sounds like i'm joking, but i'm not. only thing that bothers me now: y'all be surprised how many grown ass adults don't know how to count cash anymore. and it feels like it's getting worse. i get the wrong change handed to me almost daily. i'm this close to finally paying off a personal loan i got years ago, and this one grown-ass chick i go to see to drop off my monthly payments, doesn't know how to count cash. i'll sit in her office (because up until 2 months ago, they accepted cash payments in person, for years) she'd ask how much i'm paying. i'd mumble it to test her. she fakes like she's counting it carefully, in front of me and i can easily tell she has no clue how to count money. no eye contact with me and she's hella nervous. totally amazing, right. it's 2019. and she's american. grown ass woman too. and then she types in her computer what amount she thinks she heard me say. it's always off by like $15-20--in my favor. so i don't say anything and it's why i keep going to her office instead of anywhere else. lol. it's so real, she not only gets the dollar amount wrong, she gets the change amount wrong, too. so she really can't count money. even when it's really easy change like a quarter, a dime and a penny. she doesn't know what that amount is. oh and of course, i never pay the amount that i actually owe, i always overpay weird ass amounts on every bill i ever owe, always. so, if i owe $50 for the month in repaying my personal loan, i'll pay $114.56. she knows that i'm always doing random, crazy amounts and it's never the same month to month. so, she'll type in her computer and i'll see on the receipt: $136.19 or something instead of the actual $114.56 i gave to her. only once did she shortchange me a few dollars. i let it slide. was this close to telling her manager the first couple times it happened but i don't wanna see her get fired because of me--believe it or not, i felt guilty, like, who else pays cash this day and age--it's my fault. and like i said, it's been totally in my favor so far, so why speak up now. i'm always amazed when i walk in and see her still working there. you can bet i know all the spots where to pay my bills. cell phone, cable TV, etc, they got kiosks in their respective buildings that take cash, so i pay cash to them. i don't use automatic bank pay. this is better for me, anyway. and this is why i started picking up loose change in the street and putting it in my "coin purse" on my keychain. it's like everybody in the world is unknowingly helping me pay my bills by dropping loose change everywhere. so, thank you for dropping your pennies and nickels in parking lots, etc. since many of yall use plastic to pay, y'all probably don't know that for almost 10 yrs now, you can pay off bills at 7-11 and dollar stores. yep. that's what the private loan folks got me paying now since they no longer accept cash in their office. they texted me a bar code. i go to 7-11 and 7-11 scans the bar code from my cell phone. it pulls up my account and i pay whatever i want, whenever i want. since 7-11 is open 24 hours. as long as your payment is like at least $2.00, you can pay. so this is like i said, another reason why i'm scooping up loose change from the ground whenever i find it, daily. better believe i'm adding that loose change to my personal bill payments via 7-11. and i dunno about your town, but around here, some overnight mcdonald's kinds shuts down at a certain part of the night and only accepts cash. and i'm always smiling like, yep, i got cash.

You can buy a metal detector at Walmart with cash.

lol; metal detectors have crossed my mind. actually, i've really honed my skills now that i always keep an eye out for loose change everywhere and anywhere i mentioned in another thread that i park in the visitor parking of my complex since my neighbor always got her family parked in my spot. few months back, after i parked, i'm walking to my home from visitor parking, i spot a folded up $20 on the curb. it was 3am. my skills are really getting sharp. can't say a metal detector picking that up.

I use cash more than cards. Don’t like the MAN aka govt being able to track every dollar I spend.

In New Jersey we have a law where we are discouraged to pump gas. Credit is always 10 cents extra per gallon over cash so many people prefer to pay cash. Its a pure money play on the part of the gas stations as many people prefer to use cards.

I pay for 99% of everything with my phone. Samsung phones can do phone payment anywhere you can swipe a card so even if a store doesn't take phone payment I can still do it.
