How many sex partners have you had?

The most uncomfortable question in every relationship: what's your number? As in, how many people have you slept with? To find out the average number of sexual partners a person has had as well as the feelings surrounding the subject, a recent study surveyed over 2,000 people in the US and Europe. Turns out, the average American has had 7.2 partners while the average European has had 6.2. On top of the median counts, America's highs and lows ranged at much more drastic extremes, from 2.6 (Utah) to 15.7 (Louisiana), vs. Europe's 5.4 (Italy) to 7.0 (UK).

The survey also asked the participants at what number they considered someone to be "too promiscuous." Women answered 15.2 while men said 14; both, however, closely agreed on the "ideal number" of partners for someone to have in their lifetime at 7.5 (women) and 7.5 (men). Lastly, when asked what count they thought of as "too sexually conservative," France, Portugal, the US, the UK, and Italy all reported two. Austria was the clear outlier, saying that seven sexual partners was prudish. OK, Austria!

I try to play the alphabet game with my history. I go from A to Z trying to remember girls I've been with and their names. Too many that start with A's and J's, but so far no O's or X's. Yesenia was the one Y I remembered, and was surprised at how few letters remain open.

This is an interesting subject that I find awkward to discuss. Since my own number is quite low and the numbers for my stripper friends tend to be very high, I choose not to talk with them about "what's your number". For example, I know, just from listening attentively to my ATF ramble on about the guys she's fucked since she was 12 (!), that her number is at least 15.

I have had the number conversation three times (excluding virgins which could be counted as a disclosed zero) and I don't think it ever went down very well.

The first time, I had asked a nympho girlfriend who was like "ummmm... a lot of them were stupid and I don't even want to think about it." Second time was when a new gf confronted me after a not-so-attractive girl had outed me as having slept with her years prior, and the new gf demanded that I enumerate for her, which basically doomed the relationship. The third time, a stripper friend who I think was either sizing me up as a potential boyfriend or OTC partner was asking, and I told her that I hadn't been keeping track. She didn't seem very happy with that answer, but reported back that she had talked to another grown man and had gotten a similar answer.

Prior to my foray into the world of strippers I would have said my number would have been like 12-15 with a long ~18 year hiatus with one partner during marriage. At this time, well...I would be considered as promiscuous and dont even want to count.

I remember reading one of those surveys back when I was in college. The 3x rule makes sense. Because it matched the results in the survey: supposedly men have 3x times as many partners on average as women. The funny thing though is that mathematically the averages have to be the same. So women are lying their numbers even in anonymous surveys.

Hell, I have a count of 8 just from my last attempt at the "12 Lays of Christmas" challenge. Actually, covered 10 days, but settled for 2 repeats, so even if I had managed all 12 days there would have been an asterisk on the entry.

A potential corollary to the 3X rule:

A woman only remembers (admits) having sex with someone if she's had sex with them 3 or more times.

The one night stands just get blocked out.

The male corollary is:
If I touched your boobs or pussy, I had sex with you. Yep, you're going on my list.

I used to keep track but lost count a few years ago. I'd say probably around 100 with a close to 50/50 split between P4P and freebies, and about 25% of them multiple times, one girlfriend alone hundreds of times. I'm talking actual penetration, not boobie touching. :D

I like the real logical rule of 4.

If a woman says she had sex with "x" number of men, add 4 to the number she gives.

If a man says he had sex with "x" number of women, subtract 4 from the number he gives.
