ID Scans

Was considering visiting a SC, but they scan ID’s. I’m not keen on that. Any thoughts?

On the bright side, the people who have posted about dealing with ID scans haven’t reported anything related to scams or promotions coming their way. There was one individual who got a fake ID for using the scans before.

In some places, SCs tend to operate as "private" clubs, so they file your name and address. One sent me promotional junk mail, which didn't matter in my case, since I lived alone. But that's never happened as a result of an ID scan. I think maybe the norm is, the scanned data is wiped within a few days. They just want it long enough so, if a report came in of a crime a few days earlier, they'd still have the scan data to help ID the perp. When I went here, [view link] , they had an ID scan, a metal detector, a light pat in the parking lot, and a second, more thorough pat at the door. Supposedly the hallmarks of a club where everybody just got out of jail. But I've been in few clubs where the crown had such a chill, upbeat vibe to it. I was probably the only non-black guy in the club, but nobody gave me the hairy eyeball. Just a few people looked at me like wondering if I was lost. The bottom line is that competent, highly-visible club security is effective. Word gets around it's in place, so troublemakers don't even bother to try to get in.

Definite no for me, I don't trust strip club with my identity info. Being a known quantity at ID scan club should get you waved through, it does for me. At ID scan club where I'm unknown entity, tipping the scanning guy $5 to pass through has always worked except for once.

It's not a dealbreaker for me. There are some identity concerns but if that eliminates a lot of bullshit that goes on in the clubs then maybe it's for the best. I'm split on it tbth.

IT is what it is - most of us don't like it - I would say the risk of something bad happening is def not-zero but not super-high either - I've been on TUSCL for 10-years and don't recall a firsthand horror-story dealing w/ club-scanning. Like many things - one weighs the choices available - e.g.: + is the club worth-it - is it the best choice in an area and thus I'd be missing out on a good/best SC visit + are there other comparable choices/clubs that don't scan where I can have as good a time if scanning is something that seriously irks me vs it being more of a mild annoyance/worry

ID scans are for two main reasons. 1/ to make sure you are the person entering and of legal age. Club Licenses and Liquor Licenses if present are very expensive. In this Industry, they are much easier to remove or be suspended for minor infractions. Underage or false ID is one such infraction that can get a club closed. 2/ to make sure you are not on any watch list from local law enforcement, meaning you would be prone to be a liability on the property. These warnings come from the scan company and are updated daily, so this is for customer protection as much as the club. The Third and minor reason is that just like Casinos in Vegas or Elsewhere scans work like a concierge service. Do you tend to use the VIP services, Do you spend enough to earn VIP status, Have you won a business card drawing for a special that was run but you didnt need to be present for to win, etc. The Fourth and not so minor is did you walk out on a tab? or was your CC charged back? This would limit your being able to use such on future visits. What scans are not for is sending mailers or promotions that are unwanted. You can already opt out of social media tracking which does give updates and promotions via cell phone. You can chose to get texts from a club in the same way. For those who dont trust a club with their ID, must never use an ATM or run a Tab or buy anything online, since those do collect your info down to your SS# and more. Being unnerved about a door scan that does a very simple job digitally that used to be done by hand and during peak hours would contribute to the line entering is like saying you will only drive a car pre 2000 because you dont trust a digital dashboard.

I generally avoid clubs that scan ID's. It's not quite a 100% deal breaker, but its a significant deterrent. I'm not going to go into why yet again, but if you search the site you'll see lots of threads on the topic. I'd also google a bit as there is a lot of incorrect information here.

I have been thinking about getting a fake one as well. Not a US one but of some other country like some eastern European country or new Zealand. Mostly these scanning machines are geared toward US licenses and probably would not even work for other countries Id's. Also its much safe to be caught with fake id of some country no one has heard about than a US state license.

So I was researching more about what kind of vendors and hardware club use and came across this. [view link] Quoted from the above article below, "All the data collected through [view link]’s solutions can be accessed on our cloud-based dashboard by any authorized staff at any time. That means multiple venues at different locations can access the data in real time. This is especially useful to franchises. " "A number of leading clubs are using [view link]’s facial recognition add-on, which uses small video cameras to identify patrons as they approach access points. Once a face or ID has been entered, that person will no longer need to stop to have their ID or face scanned. The solution automatically recognizes that person’s face and pulls up their ID, along with any comments, such as banned or VIP, when they come on to the premises. "

Any time your ID is scanned there is potential for misuse, a strip club does not need to scan your ID to verify that you are of legal age and if they want to keep bad actors out a simple photo scan will generally identify some one who is in the data base, and is pretty close to instantaneous if deployed at the entrance. In response to Omega, I think you're stretching a bit comparing a strip club to a bank, the security is not even close to comparable, and the club is hardly regulated in the same way, protect your licenses by operating ethically, just because there are scammers out there doesn't give anyone the right to invade the privacy of everyone.

===> "For those who dont trust a club with their ID, must never use an ATM or run a Tab or buy anything online, since those do collect your info down to your SS# and more." Right Omega, because I should trust strip clubs and their employees to implement the same data protection protocols as Chase Bank and Amazon. Sure thing. 😉 On the broader topic, like someone else said, for me it's a deterrent but not a deal breaker. It's not like the club can do much with just my name, address and DL#. One generally needs a SS# and/or banking info. to do any real damage. I've had my ID scanned in a handful of road clubs over the years, almost always in the Nanny states. But I doubt that I'd ever be a regular at a club that scanned IDs simply because I wouldn't want my club activities tracked like that.

I agree with Dolfan, it's a deterrent but not a dealbreaker. The two local clubs that do this have a mutual owner. This is because there has been an uptick in crimes and violence in these clubs over the past few years. The clubs say they delete all the records at the end of the day if there is no reason to keep it. If you break club rules, skip out on dance or drink tabs, or cause any problems, they will save your information for anything from denial of entry to filing criminal charges. Sadly, the bad apples have ruined it for everyone. This is not to say that the info cannot be misused or that there is not a risk of somebody else committing a criminal act and your info getting flagged by mistake. Very recently, I've had cops come to the wrong house because my neighbor's Lexus was left upside down in a ditch a block away, they thought the address was my house. If you cannot risk a visit from the cops in the very unlikely event that something may happen and you could be a suspect or a witness, then you may want to switch clubs. Of course, the same thing can happen with CCTV video, too.

If you've already paid for the system why dispose of customer data that has potential value? Also the vast bulk of clubs in the U.S. seem to manage "bad apples" without scanning IDs.

I've only had my DL scanned once. It was years ago and I'd never seen nor heard of scanning like that except for airport security. Didn't realize it until I saw the guy feed my DL into the scanner. Since then it's a 100% dealbreaker for me. A strip club that wants to scan my ID can kiss my fucking ass. Not happening.

If a club scans id then this information should be collected on the club page along with address and time its open. Will save lots of time for folks who refuse to visit such clubs.

@razorman: “Mandatory ID Scan” is displayed as one of the ‘features’ on the club page. For example, Fantasies in Baltimore has a Mandatory ID Scan: [view link]

Not a dealbreaker. The biggest reason they do it is to guard against violence or issues from patrons. It creates a much safer environment when patrons know the club has thier ID to help the cops connect the dots if they get in an altercation or do not leave when asked to. What you need to be worried about is clubs who think its ok to share video of the club on social media. Now that will get you in trouble.

It is better than the old days. There used to be a camera behind the doorman and some clubs captured your information on screen. They then entered it in a database. It is okay now as clubs become more professional and your information is not in the hands of a the underworld. Many of us dancers have to register in some jurisdictions so we understand..

fuck up the bar code on your ID. Of course, then they could manually enter it.

I use a Passport Card at bars and clubs as it doesn't have an address visible on the card.

Malicious agents already have all your information from the data breaches of companies that collected it without you're knowledge, so what's the problem with your local strip club having it? Most of them are going to go out of business and be replaced by another club that doesn't have your info.

Just remembered something based on what Razorman said. There are already clubs that have facial scans; one visit to a local club of mine confirmed that when a bouncer I've never met greeted me by name before I had even given him my ID.

I'm not happy about it, but it did clean up the thug problem at a club I sometimes go to.
