You may be right with this, but is it a bad thing? Isn’t this just a property dispute? If anyone owns the name “Cherokee” isn’t it the tribe? They are their own nation. Shouldn’t they get a share of the profits made off using their property? John Madden gets money from the video games, why not the Cherokees?
At this rate the solution will have to be no mascots, no "cultural appropriation". Only the "Boston basketball team". The "Cleveland baseball team". The "Kansas city football team".
