The pan handlers are all over the Zona but are not in front of the bars (they have Security to keep the entrance clear).

After a visit or two TJ I just learned to address them with a polite "no gracias" and move on, they as much a part of zona as the guys standing on street encouraging to try their club and the street food vendors.

I was once embarrassed by a HK BG I was taking up to my room at Cascadas. I was told (and read in forums) to never communicate with people on the street, including beggars, as the local police use it as an excuse to claim that you are buying drugs and use the pretext to shake you down. I ignored an old woman selling gum at the entrance to Cascadas based on this advice. As I was walking the BG to the hotel, she stopped to give the old woman a dollar. I thought how sweet that she is sharing her wealth (and embarrassing for me not to have similar compassion).

Since then I have given a few dollars here and there. If the beggar has children, I give. And there is an old guy in a wheelchair that hangs out in front of the OXXO doors that I give a few pesos left over from my purchase. Keeps my karma clean.

FYI, I don't think the BG liked her job. The session was adequate, but nothing special. I saw her again once a few weeks after that, but not since. I am guessing that she was working in HK for a few weeks, because she had young children to support.

And I was told that the HK group owns property on the block north of HK and plan to build another club there eventually.

I just wish they would complete the previous expansion (;-), as the construction at 8:00 am is annoying.

The panhandlers are everywhere it seems. They may not be blocking the entrance to the bars, but they are always nearby. I've had a couple follow me halfway up the Cascadas stairs while going arriba. There's also an old woman who walks into Azul and goes around table to table panhandling.

this latest most recent visit wednesday jan 22 2020 i took a better look at what’s going on in the expansion area. i paced off the alley side and as it is at this moment the area immediately west of hk is untouched for 15 paces west of the existing west wall of the main showroom of hk. then the following 15 paces is gutted out but with the existing store fronts remaining.
the front north side on coahuila is gutted out from the atm storefront area to the taco stand dining area. i will post current pics.

hk has been busy with the expansion project. on the outside it just needs the final paint and trim. A couple of pics on other tj sites show some of the interior including a big stage and bar area. looks like the access is thru the existing club. gonna be big when it’s all open. and i hope that is soon.

One of the improvements HK could make is more room because on the weekend evenings it get too crowded, not just enough seats but even the standing room gets scarce quick.

Hopefully, the expansion should help alleviate this problem.

Reading this just makes me wonder when exactly it'll be that we'll be back to complaining about space in HK during weekends.

I wonder if they're able to get work done faster now that the club is closed?

And I'm also wondering if more space will alleviate the crowding on weekends? I actually don't think it will. The place is just too damn popular, I think it'll just hold more people and every room will be just as crowded.

Besides, MX is on the verge of legalizing marijuana nationally and I think that has a lot more of their attention right now...

HK keeps it crowded artificially, by blocking off upper sections of the facility when traffic is light. Likely they will deploy the same strategy despite expansion.
