E.g. do you tolerate several comments before choosing to ignore a user, or do you click that ignore button like you've just had enough and now you're laying down the law?
My level of tolerance is unlimited. I haven't used the ignore button on anyone and I probably never will. I've seen plenty of sexist, racist, misogynistic comments on other forums sites. It doesn't faze me anymore. It's the internet. People here are always gonna be mean to each other.
Its only when I have tried tried and tried to reason with them and that they show that they are being totally irrational and are contributing nothing that I put them on ignore. I went for a couple of years with no one on ignore.
I am very tolerant of trolls and I use the ignore function sparingly. I like to know who is posting even if I don't like the poster. If a troll is tedious or malicious, I generally just don't read his posts.
I only use the ignore on a certain poster that won't let threads die, because if you don't there will be zero new or current, threads at certain times of the day, usually after 4pm, until about 8-9pm there is a certain poster here that thinks everyone needs to know what's on his mind, and that person never says anything relevant to the thread, just continually tries to change the subject. I do occasionally look to see if that person has said anything relevant, but I'm usually disappointed.
With 67 on ignore , I have low tolerance and life's too short. I generally don't ignore because I disagree with a person's view, but I'm quick to ignore the drivel where posters are trying to be cute or funny or simply wasting space on the site.
I have a low tolerance too. I tried just ignoring the posters that I dislike without actually putting them on ignore because I didn't want to miss something that might be interesting. But I have been on here for 20 years and have run out of patience. The first to go are the guys posting advertisements. Next are the ones that attack me or other people that I like. Then the useless trolls. If I really want to see what some one on ignore posted a click will log me out and then 2 clicks to log back on.
Putting them on ignore also has the advantage of blocking them from sending you PMs.

How ironic
There have been a few who got gradually worse until it was a waste of my time to try to figure out if it was going to be worthwhile reading.

And when that happens, the individuals are taken off ignore after a day or two anyways.
I’m not the best at always doing that though :p
