Does anyone think that the TUSCLers would be able to agree on five songs to put into a TUSCL strip club playlist Hall of Fame? How would nominations get done? What about discussions on nominees? Who would be able to vote?
With all of the diverse backgrounds and ages of people that post on here, I think it would be impossible to agree on any 5. I am frequently asked by strippers what my favorite song is and I tell them "I don't have one. It all sounds the same to me."
I doubt we would be able to agree given the diverse tastes and preferences reflected on tuscl.
sex metal barbie - in this moment
pornstar dancing - my darkest days
walk - pantera . . . (more of stage show)
super massive black hole - muse (or anything by muse)
black rose immortal - opeth . . . (c'mon, it clocks in at over 20 minutes, talk about value!!)
Cheese nomination; over use; cliche
girls girls girls - motley crue
pour some sugar on me - def leppard
Even with the diversity, a Hall of Fame should be representative of many eras. Kind of a "best of all time" list.
Here's what I would make the case for in an inaugural class:
The Stripper - David Rose & His Orchestra (1962)
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC (1980)
Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crue (1987)
Thong Song - Sisqo (2000)
I'm 'n Luv (Wit a Stripper) - T-Pain feat. Mike Jones (2005)
Spans a healthy timeframe and multiple genres. Songs I think everyone, even non-club goers, can easily associate with a strip club.
Honorable mention:
Get Ready For This - 2 Unlimited (1991)
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-A-Lot (1992)
Harlem Shake - Baauer (2013)
What brought this to mind was flipping back through some of the old posts. I didn't want the OP to sound like too much work, but 5 songs wouldn't have to be an all time list. It could be 5 (or maybe 10 because there's a crap lot of music in the world) for this year. Next year there could be another 5 or 10. Something like a no kidding HoF. Trying it for clubs first would be like a virtual knife fight, but it might be cool to try it for music. I get it that there's different kind of music, but there are different types of ball players, too, and each sports league only has one HoF.
"Girls, Girls, Girls" has already gotten two noms. Since shailynn mentioned it, "Cherry Pie" is definitely a song that keeps getting played and played and played. I could see that getting on a short list. "Bad Girlfriend" by Theory of a Deadman is probably going to be that level of annoying one day. This type of list could blow up quick, so I'll just suggest one for now. Maybe the Deadman song is my honorable mention because it's been played to death, but I'm going to with "Lollipop" as a nominee. The Lil Wayne original. I don't know how many clubs I heard that song in, but it was a lot. Coast to coast. All types of clubs. Not all dancers were equipped to make the most of the song, but it was fun to watch them try.
Some good ass songs on this list...but it's pretty damn white. A lot of strippers I know like to dance to hip hop, even if it's not their preferred personal genre.
I've gone to plenty of white clubs and I've actually only heard "Girls, Girls, Girls" twice. Same day, consecutive clubs. I have to agree with "Get Ready For This" since a few clubs use it to introduce the girls and have them walk through the club. One song I think is underrated in this regard is "Photograph". Almost lost it the one time I heard it at Baby Dolls. Tootsies has even started playing Snoop Dogg's "Ain't No Fun" with surprising regularity.
As far as songs from personal experience, hmm..."She Will" by Lil Wayne and Drake, "Fresh From Head 2 Toe" by Billy Blue (best LD ever was from that song), "Turn On The Lights" by Future, "Panda" by Desiigner (Follies girls tend to get excited when that song is on), and I guess "Trap Queen" by Fetty Wap (also Follies influenced).
All that said, an all time HOF list would have to lean more toward 80s rock - at least an inaugural class.
There are plenty of songs I don't like that I'd be ok with voting for because strip club music is its own category of "good". How about this? Take a list of up to 100 song noms. Might not get that many. Cut that list down to 20 finalists for discussion on the boards. Then come up with some other way to do a final cut.
@IHearVoices - Is that "Photograph" by Ed Sheeran?
@shadowcat - Who does "Bolero"?
I'm also putting "Golddigger" by Armin Van Buuren and "Say It Right" by Nelly Furtado on the list. That's 41 songs so far. Cutoff for noms is next weekend or 100 noms, which ever comes first. If you want to see the list so far I'll pm it to you. Too long to post in the thread until it's set.
Anybody want to volunteer to help cut the list down to 20 finalists? The process shouldn't take more than a few minutes per person.
The thing about a hall of fame is that it should take into account more than just "what you like." You want to consider what's appealed to a broad section of clubs and what's had staying power. You want to consider the best, or most representative, of various genres, and you want to make sure to vary your timeframes to catch what was considered the best during a variety of eras.
I do think it's important to consider burlesque roots, which is why I recommend "The Stripper." Yes, there were clubs before the lapdance boom of the 70's and 80's.
"Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Get Ready For This" are used in a lot of clubs to introduce promo lineups and whatnot to this day. That's staying power. Girls is actually about clubs, anyhow.
"You Shook Me All Night Long" is still a popular song for dancers. "She was a sex machine, she kept her motor clean, she was the best damn woman that I've ever seen" isn't a bad way to introduce a dancer.
Yes, hip hop has to be there. "Thong Song" still gets dancers rumps shaking, while "I'm In Luv" is something that's been used to tease every newbie PL who gets doe-eyed ever since it came out.
It's not just what you like. It's what's lasted and represents the strip club ethos.
Great suggestions thus far - here is my top 5 list:
1. Feeling Love - Paula Cole
2. Can't You Hear Me Knocking - Rolling Stones
3. Hot Legs - Faces (Rod Stewart)
4. Drop Dead Legs - Van Halen
5. Desire - Meg Myers
That T-Pain I'm in love with a stripper song is classic, I don't hear it played much now, but I imagine back when it came out you couldn't go a day without hearing it in the strip club.
I buy "Pony," if only because it's hard not to hear that song now and not think of Magic Mike. Different kind of strip club than we usually discuss here, but it counts.
I'm not experienced enough to suggest HOF songs but I do have a list I would like to hear.
Kiss -lick it up
Van halen - dance the night away, everybody wants some, many more
Sammy Hagar - girl gets around
Zz top - legs, tube snake boogie, they have many dirty songs
Emerson lake and Palmer - karn evil 9 1st impression part 2
Scorpions - many good options
But they seem to play the music for the dancers instead of the customers who are mostly a bunch of older guys.
Fell back in love with it after playing GTA V...and it's especially a propos for those of us who like more than stage shows...which is pretty much all of us on TUSCL.
Joe Cocker- You Can Leave Your Hat On
Kiss- Take it Off (watch the YouTube video)
Lynard Skynard- Free Bird...I submit, this is the best song to get a LD to. It's a long song that starts out slow (foreplay) and crescendos towards the end (climax). I've never been able to get a DJ to play it though.
Good suggestions. It's ok if you've never heard a song played in a club. With all the clubs and all the years a song must've been played somewhere. I've added five more.
Beautiful People - Marilyn Manson
Shakin Hands - Nickelback
Crazy Bitch - Buckcherry
American Woman - Lenny Kravitz
Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpions
The nom list is now at 69 songs. I was kidding before about Nickelback. They get played all the time in clubs.
A lot of clubs use the same song over and over to announce the change of dancers after their three song set. This means regulars hear that song hundreds of times. These are the songs I think of when I think strip clubs songs.
Oh Yeah Yello
Harlem Shake Baauer
Pump up the jam Technotronic remix

My favorite is "Porn Star Dancing" by My Darkest Days. I remember my ATF dancing to this song years ago.

@AnonymousJim - I'll buy that. This'll be an interesting chat when there's "finalists" for all to ponder.
I can't believe "Pony" by Ginuwine hasn't been mentioned.
The list is now at 42 songs. One song was double counted on the first number posted.

Plus Bo Derek in her heyday, always a good choice.
