To keep them on a similar level, no privates are showing (no vagina, asshole and majority of tits are covered at minimum) during the twerking. And anyone who knows anything about belly dancing, only the mid second, hands and eyes are clearly visible during these dances?
To me, they both seem the same in convention, just different body parts are out for display. In terms of twerking, that's IF a girl is showing cheeks through shorts or something. Can be done in pants though.

Not much else available anything like that on TV.
Actually belly dancing can be done anyway the dancer wants to and with any sort of costume.

The only traditional minimum is that band around the hips.
Today there is Gothic Belly Dancing, and their anything goes.
Twerking is something to be on the receiving end of, not to be watching.
But anyway, I like the standard stripper stage performances, lots of floor work and spreading and showing and both front views and back views.

When it is in a situation where it is not expected and where it is pushing the limits, then it is interesting. But otherwise it is not what I would want to do with a girl.
And then just watching her do it to someone else is a non-starter.

Belly dancing is intended for an audience, and also for coming up to your table. Totally different thing from twerking.
And yes, if she wanted to a, belly dancer could do twerking.

Really belly dance and the costuming could be anyway the girl wants it to be. It could be much more explicit. They just aren't going to do that in public places or show it on something like youtube,

RE gmd "Both can be sexy if done correctly." Gee, George, idk, what is the correct way to "twerk" ? Which leads me to a major reason for my not favoring twerking over belly dancing. Most regular tusclers have probably correctly pegged me as an old white guy. This would be the demographic among the least likely to watch, or purchase rap/hip hop videos. Yet twerking ( or some variation of what might pass for twerking) seems to be the favored stageside move of so many dancers who approach me for a tip. C'mon babe, rub your tits in my face, wrap your legs around me, use me as a gymnastic spotter, do a headstand in my lap, anything but twerking.(On second thought, twerking just might be a better option than the headstand for some dancers.) But, you get my point.
Anyway, as I said, for me, twerking is "here's the thing I crap out of -- look at it. LOOK AT IT!". Belly dancing is art. But if you want sexy, Tahitian dancing blows away belly dancing, plus it's more hip and ass centric and less belly centric. These aren't the sexiest examples, just the first few that popped up on a search, but you get the idea. Beyond the sexines,and I'm a huge fan of the beauty of the artform:
