Ray Rice episode is sad commentary. Or is it?

OK. Nobody in their right mind is going to defend Ray Rice or the NFL. Stupid is as stupid does -- on both counts. Glad he's gone -- never hit a woman, dude, ever. Manhood 101 which is usually taught to all civilized humanoids. We can all agree on that, right? BUT, what does it say about the lack of self respect of a woman who would go forward with her decision to marry a man who knocks her the fuck out with his fist? And then goes on TV and apologizes for her role in the episode. Answer? Easy! Rice was to get $10M over the next 3 years, in addition to the millions he already earned. 48 hours ago he was a misunderstood, wife-beating millionaire. Now, he is just a wife-beater. If she stays with him, then, OK. True loves conquers all, I guess. However, when she dumps his soon-to-be, sorry, broke-ass (while deserving of our sympathy for being punched -- she didn't ask for that), I suggest that she deserves to be called what she may well turn out to be -- a ho! Definition -- prostitute: one who has sex for money. Can you say $10 Million? At the end of the day, if she leaves when the money runs out, that is what she is. I guess when the woman is in it for the long con, she is not called a ho. She is called, at worst, a gold-digger or upwardly mobile. Sorry fans, let's call a spade a spade. In many ways, I find what these dancers offer to be much more honorable -- an honest transaction with no deception or pretense. Sad. Sad. Sad.

So if a woman marries a professional athlete, a successful actor, a CEO, a wealthy wall street player, etc, she's a ho? Don't think so. Just as easy to fall in love with rich as it is with poor.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I don't think you fully understand all the dimensions involved with domestic abuse pensionking.

The sad commentary is that there was little reaction to the causation and only when there was video did the outrage start. Football players and others are paid for their aggression and then no one understands when they are 24 hour a day animals. Lock up the fucker. He and so many others deserve no less but instead we celebrate them. That is the real sadness and we all participate.

I agree, why does the video show up now...someone was getting paid to keep thus under wraps. Today there is always a copy

Ray Rice, a strong professional athlete, knocks a woman unconscious but is not prosecuted. The NFL gives him a wrist slap. Only when TMZ releases the video does the NFL take appropriate action. TMZ claims that the NFL had this whole video from the beginning. The NFL turns these athletes into millionaires and heroes, and then protects them from the consequences of their criminal behavior. It's sad that TMZ displays a better moral compass than the NFL. The victim is is not perfect, but her imperfections do not excuse Ray Rice.

"Nobody in their right mind is going to defend Ray Rice" Er, isn't that what you just tried to do?

The NFL league office claims they never saw the video so the original suspension was only 2 games. They did see the footage we saw of him dragging her body out of the elevator. Tell me, what did they think happened to get to that point?

The sad commentary is the sanctimonious bullshit coming from the White House. Make a big deal about race when a criminal thug who attacked a cop after robbing a store gets shot and ignoring it here. Before you assholes say white men commit domestic violence to remember that on August 11, an unarmed 20 year old white dude who was wearing headphones, was unarmed and gad done nothing didn't hear the cop, the black cop who said get down on the ground and then murdered him, while Obama was silent.

"...never hit a woman..." Can't fully agree with that. I am sure I would hit one (same as I would a man) if I was in fear of physical danger to myself or loved ones. Would be better to hit then the alternatives. BTW, why would women get upset with this? Aren't they for equality, or is just for equality in things they like? :)

623, jack, motor, ski and club all make most excellent points. All perspectives with which I can find agreement and enjoy useful discourse. Make no mistake, my view is that Mr. Rice is (and should be) unemployable. He deserves his future poverty and further deserves incarceration. This brush with the law might not be his last. Let me be more direct: my point is that the strippers, escorts, and hookers that provide us PLs company. comfort and pleasure are vilified by society -- to such an extent that they often use fake names and seek to hide their true identities. They shouldn't be -- they are 1/2 of a far more honest transaction than are the women that marry for money and divorce when the cash flow wanes. You're right, Mikey, it is just as easy to fall in love with a millionaire as anyone else -- in fact, it is easier. Ultimately, what makes me want to call a woman a whore is what she does AFTER the power and the money and the fame are gone. Look in our own neighborhoods and our own towns -- I am sure the evidence is there. Now its time for a 1,000 word essay referencing the California penal code with obscure references to Artie Mitchell (jk).

Ray Rice will get to keep the vast majority of his salary this year. The majority was paid upfront as bonuses.

Money talks bullshit walks – or so goes the saying. I agree w/ king about women hooking up w/ men for the $$$ - but that is only one side of the coin IMO. How many people, men; w/e; stick to jobs they hate; take shit from a boss they hate; kill themselves working 60+ hours a week; for $$$ - money talks bullshit walks – most of us do what we gotta do; or what’s best for us; to make that $$$ and try to secure our financial present and future – now add to this when there are millions of dollars at stake.

Mayor It's a Ray Thing. Ray Lewis, Ray Carruth, Ray Rice. If your name is Ray and you happen to play football, maybe a name change is in order.

Papi, women hooking up with men with money is ancient history. And men with money wanting to hook up with hot women for sex is also ancient history. Has nothing to do with this guy not being raised right. He deserves to have his ass knocked out by a bigger man, and then be dragged around like a bag of garbage. On video for the world and his cellmates to see.

His wife allegedly spit in his face before he punched her in the face. Spitting in the face is the ultimate form of disrespect. If a man spits in my face, I'm gonna punch that guy in the face. If a girl spits in my face, I'm gonna spit in her face, not punch her.

@Ranukam-What would you do if before HE spat on you, he said,"You, are a dog!" and he threw his left shoe at you followed up by the louggie?

It seemed that there had been shit brewing b/w them prior to them getting into the elevator. She kinda slaps her hand at him prior to getting in the elevator and she is seen coming towards him b/f he punches her. He reacted like he was in a street fight in the hood – but it seemed like a reaction of her coming towards him – not that this condones what he did – but to me it did not look like he hit her w/ the intent of knocking her out and it seemed like a reaction of her coming towards him – again – he should have def handled it differently. It seems in today’s society we want to hang people like in the Salem witch trials; or off to the guillotine and off w/ their heads (e.g. Donald Sterling) – everybody wants to pile on as if their shit didn’t stink. There is a proper punishment depending on the offense – let the courts handle it – but seems most people want to jump on the moral high ground and want to dish out the max punishment as if they had no sins of their own. There should def be repercussions to his actions – but taking away his livelihood; even when he apologized and his wife says it’s b/w them to work out; it’s people piling on as if their shit did not stink. He def deserves punishment – but not getting his livelihood completely taken away from him – in most other jobs; that would probably not happen.

At least he wasn't Ray Lewis, he would have killed her.

LOL Didn't Ray Lewis say recently that he is disappointed because he tried to mentor Ray Rice or something like that. Wasn't he, himself in trouble with the law for obstruction of justice in a double murder. And doesn't he have 6 kids by 4 different women. Quality mentoring there . . . yikes!

Ray Rice elevator incident may well be the tip of the iceberg. Namely, it happened on camera. Which begs the question of how many off camera incidents there are among NFL players.
